Now just to crush your dreams, the photos are just a 'shopped Cayman :( (http://faimg1.forum-auto.com/mesimages/99300/1053big.jpg)

I think it looks a bit too much like a 911/Caymen, not that I would turn one down if someone wants to buy me one :D

Since when has that been a bad thing ;)

One thing Ferrari have always prided themselves on is innovation and unique design, if they took one look at the Caymen and thought 'That's what our next car should look like' then they are not holding true to their core values.

Id agree with Carl, wayyyy too much Carman in that. Although it is only a design, and maybe Ferrari will be allowed to stick a bit of power in it rather than using it to plug the gap in a model range.

Horrible detailing IMHO and yes the rear arches and C pillar are very Cayman. Quite disrespectful also in my opinion as the Dino wasn't badged as a Ferrari and it was Enzo's personal tribute to his dead son and for them just to go and make a new one is silly. For a car maker that's all about heritage and breeding I feel that shows a bit of disrespect for the founder of the company. Personally for that reason alone I don't like it

If you look closely at this picture below it's badged Dino and not Ferrari. People who call Dino's Ferrari's are my sworn enemy :| The information plate that the owner put down says Dino 426 GT and not Ferrari Dino which is good

Ay, As you say Daniel, not one Ferrari badge on the car.

If anybody has read 'the mechanics tale' it has a little story about how a Dino was not let into the center of Monte Carlo on a race weekend because the Security (or police) thought it was a Fiat Dino.

We just don't mention the other Dino... Only Bertone designed Ferrari to go into production. Looks like an Aston Bulldog.

I've been reliable informed by someone who helps run a large Italian car site that that's a dodgey photoshop, that rumours say it's not going to be front engined and that it won't look like a Cayman.

Sounds good except for the name obviously

If it were April 1st or the report came from a dodgy website
then I'd tend to agree with this theory, however AutoExpress is a well respected weekly newspaper that has been published for about 10 year or so and has hundreds of thousands of readers.

That would be one hot Ferrari though  Makes the Caymen look ultra bland

As Clarkson says, "Porsche have the laziest design team in the world".

Just what I've been told by a reliable source who's got some contacts in the industry :) Could be wrong could be right

The thing that screams Photochop! to me is this :)

599 GTB

Other than the bonnet vents, slightly different arches, a chopped roof, different seat and the added lights it's identical. Which to me is a little suspicious because Ferrari isn't like Peugeot and doesn't generally stick identical fronts on cars. But we'll see. I'll be happy if the car doesn't turn out like that :)

I knew I'd seen these pics somewhere else!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

"Dino" shoot

Notice the profile of the side of that small rocky outcrop in the background? It's identical! :)

Yep, have to say that it is a photoshop and I've just sent the editor of the paper a letter outlining the fact, I post his reply if I get one ;)

Hey! Photochopping is Auto Expresses bread and butter :p I'd be surprised if you get a reply :p I think it would have been nice if they'd just said here is our sketch of what we think it'll look like. Must admit I wasn't 100% sure it was fake until I compared but the shots just looked so much like 599 and Cayman publicity shots but I wasn't sure until I was told it wasn't real :p

I wrote them an email too :)

I suspect it was possibly not as nice as yours Carl :)

One line from it was this

I hope this rubbish "story" doesn't foul the pages of your sister magazine"(Evo) which I quite happily susbscribe to as I quite enjoy reading stories of real cars that actually exist.

Mine-

Dear Mr Johns,

I read with some interest the recent story on your website with regard to the exclusive scoop on the new Ferrari 420 Dino. As soon as I saw the pictures I thought that it looked perhaps a little too much like a Porsche 911/Caymen. After a brief discussion with a colleague and a search on Google images I came up with this http://faimg1.forum-auto.com/mesimages/99300/1053big.jpg, I believe this comes from part of the official Porsche Caymen launch photo shoot?

I would also suggest that the front-on view looks rather remarkably like the official front view picture of the 599 GTB, aside from the addition of a couple of extra lights and front vents in the bonnet. To my knowledge Ferrari are not in the habit of designing cars around a common theme.

I would therefore suggest that, rather than publishing an 'Exclusive' of a photo shopped Porsche that perhaps you check all of the facts and perhaps revise the credibility rating of your 'inside' source.

I look forward, with great interest to your reply.

Kind Regards

Daniel

The worst one i saw was the next polo photoshop which one picture was of a VW front end on the latest Renault Clio and a modified back of a VW fox, you could tell that the mirrors and contours were different too.

I got a reply back from the site! :)

Daniel,

Thank you for your email. I don't know if you took the time to read the
story hosted on our website, but I really think it would be worthwhile. The
story explains exactly why Ferrari is interested in investigating the sub
£100,000 new car market with a new small coupe. The images, which are indeed
computer generated, are there to provide colour to the story, and do not
propose to be anything other than graphic illustrations of how the car could look.

Regards

Funny that considering their site says this....

These pictures show the new Ferrari 420 Dino, which our sources in Italy have confirmed will go on sale in 2010.

Daniel

Yet another reply :)

OK,

Fair point, well made. I had not had a chance to look that closely at our website. The story is now being altered accordingly. Your Italian sources information is also very interesting. A Ferrari sub brand sounds crazy… But once upon a time, so did the idea that Porsche would build an SUV.
Thank you for your interest in Auto Express.
