Well, it was announced. Bill France's Sr. and Jr., Richard Petty, Dale Earnhardt and Junior Johnson were the first 5. Not that any of them isn't worthy, BUT with Ray Parks still breathing, I was hoping they would get him in somehow before he passes. The man is in his 90's, but anyone who did what he did in the early days should be in......

That said, if you are only taking 5, pretty hard to not leave someone out deserving. I think they would have been wiser to put 10 in on this first year.

We can argue until the cows come home, but I think Pearson should have been in the first class instead of France, Jr.

If it had been up to me, I would have inducted a class of 15 for this first year only.

I would have named 5 Founding Contributers: Bill France Sr., Harold Brasington, Raymond Parks, Carl Keikefer, and Red Vogt.

I would have named 5 founding drivers: Lloyd Seay, Red Byron, Lee Petty, Herb Thomas, and Tim Flock.

I would have then voted 5 in like they did. With so many worthy candidates, it could be years before some of these early stars ands contributers are recognized, and someone like 95 year old Raymond Parks should be recognized while they are still alive and kicking.

I guess the voters ran out of good ideas and figured "lets throw Junior in there".

I like it for sure....

People have no idea of how radical the idea of owning a race team as business was in the late 30's, yet Raymond Parks invented the modern race team, or at least the bedrock of it. I am with you 100 % on your picks...
