As there is a Worst Drivers thread, I thought this could be interesting.

Pick your 5.

I would say:

1. Alonso
2. Hamilton
3. Massa
4. Raikkonen
5. Button

http://www.motorsportforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=135345 - this is the best drivers thread. Maybe it will be well if the topics are merged. My list is the same as yours, but I place Kimi above Felipe.

it just for fun because you can't simply compare abilities of the drivers (different team etc.) but:
1. Alonso
2. Hamilton
Vettel
Kubica (ex aequo)
5. Raikkonen

1. Alonso: closest we have today to a Prost, in terms of lifting a team
2. Hamilton: will get utmost from car and races his ass off
3. Vettel: getting close to Hamilton
4. Raikonnen: an absolute monster, when he wants to be
5. Massa: pretty consistent now, if we can forget about Silverstone last year

6. Rosberg: just a hunch he belongs here
7. Barrichello: brings a lot of intangibles to the table
8. Heidfeld: solid, unspectacular all-arounder
9. Kubica: IMO the last year and a half has hurt his stock
10. Webber: very little to choose between 6-10 really

11. Fisichella: phenomenally quick, but too soft in races
12. Button: only brilliant when the car is right
13. Trulli: quick, but two glaring weaknesses (the wet, and racecraft)
14. Sutil: form vs the Fish shows he has what it takes to be a winner
15. Glock: balls out racer with too many qualifying snafus

16. Kovalainen: a year or two ago I would've put him higher
17. Liuzzi: I think he's up to it, just at the bottom of a pretty good grid IMO
18. Nakajima: quick, but can't quite get it done in the races

Too little experience to judge, but I guess the new boys are in a category by themselves, and in this order:
Buemi
Grosjean
Alguesuari

I wonder how badly Alonso attacks the Ferrari team and Massa if Mclaren produce a competitive car - absolutely probable for 2010 - and Hamilton constantly beats him.

Question is, how much comforting and coddelling will Smedley have to do to keep Felipe fleeing in tears?!!

Ideal team of the future? Hamilton and Vettel at Mclaren.

Well, IMO Lewis is a better fighter, but they are both very fast and never give up. IMO however they are not matured as character yet and if together... hell will break loose...

It is indeed insulting for Massa to rate him only equal to Alonso.

Gonna' back Devo's play a little over here.
It's my opinion that Fred is the fastest driver of the current crop,
but this is all very subjective!
Hamilton matched Fred at McLaren.
But other than that there is no other fair comparisons.
I think some people suffer from selective amnesia when it comes
to remembering how freakin fast Fred was in a top car.
But it's been two years now Massa has to get his due.
He has really produced at Ferrari after Mike left.
So has Kimi, and Lewis may be the best of them all!
So I believe we have four guys that are close enough to put in a category at the top.
Next season we will see how Felipe stacks up against Fred
My money is on Fred!

When he would be as motivated as Michael Schumacher, Raikkonen would have won even more championships I'm sure.. Too bad he isn't

1 Hamilton
2 Alonso
3 Vettel

Quit weird, there's not any driver I support in my top 3 :D

1. Kimi Raikkonen - Just because he can be the fastest on this planet, but when he wants to. See Silverstone 2007, beat both Mclarens from third by putting in a string of blistering fastest laps in between pit stops.

2.Fernando Alonso - Brilliant, hard working, complete driver, but probably not as naturally talented as Kimi. Also, involved in some questionable scandals.

3.Lewis Hamilton - Brilliant, naturally talented driver again, but sometimes his antics are not that of a great champion.

4. Sebastian Vettel - Very talented, special in rain, but I hope he doesn't become the next "Schumacher". Well, he hasn't punted anybody out of the track yet, has he? :D

5. Felipe Massa: Not as naturally talented as other drivers, but worked his butt off to become one of the best on the grid today. Still has some weaknesses.

My list would look a lot like the X-list above. However, when one of the drivers is so bad that he gets fired before the contract ends, he cannot really be on that list. Can he?

Another funny thing is that the wdc 2009 is not listed at all :)

So you have all gone mad :)

Depends what we are asking. If its whose fastest? Then its Hamilton (God I feel dirty saying that!) no questions with Kimi just behind him.

If its hard workers then Massa and Kubica get a vote.

If its the "complete" driver then at the moment it has to be Fred. Although a lot of what if takes to be a complete driver can be learnt so Kimi or Hamster could be the best if they applied themselves.

You're forgetting the big Santander bucks. I believe the decision was more Santander than Ferrari. ;)

Well, he could only win in the first half of the year with a perfect car, and then spent the rest of the year being outperformed by his less rated teammate. I don't think that's a very convincing champion. Kimi, Alonso or Hamilton would already be champion in that car IMO.

I know that X. That was another poor attempt on irony from my part.

Happens way too often.

Anyway, I agree with most of your list.

Let's see... I'll go with:

Top tier: Alonso and Hamilton

Next tier: Kimi, Vettel, Webber, Rosberg, Button, Massa

Kimi could have been top tier, but he just lacks that little bit of fire/consistency.
