the past has shown that sd times are often worth nothing, but that makes me still more excited. the power densitiy is very high this year. a lot of drivers witch are realy strong!

sordo has blown them away: http://www.rallysweden.com/WordPress/wrc/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/shakedown03.pdf

and now times for S2000 is coming in also

I'm afraid it will be more of this in the future, when new countries joins as arrangers, and dont really know what they get in to.
According to Clarin the swedes can not run their rally every year anyway, no money.

Do you have a quote for this? No offense - and I can't say you are wrong - but it sounds like a misunderstanding. While I was working at the rally we often discussed the economical problem of NOT having the rally every year at the office. There was no talks whatsoever about problems with having it every year - only the problems of not having an annual arrangement like signing sponsors "without an event", not being able to have personnel on full-time and all-around-the-year basis, etc, etc. (that's much more possible with an event every year than every two years, since the planning time is very much spanning in a one year cycle)

swordsman even though i have never been involved with the rally i've heard the same as you that the economic issues is that the rally is only held every 2nd year and that was the cause to slim the part of the organization that receives salary.

But doesn/didint RS and Rally Norway share allot of the paid staff to decrease the effects of only having a rally every 2nd year? or fdid it never happen?

Funny enough that whoever is updating the rally website decided (knowing or not) to put a picture from Monte for the shakedown article (http://www.rallysweden.com/wrc/en/?p=221). It's a good picture, but still...

Every rally, at this moment, people me included are tempted to draw conclusions from the SD times though we shouldn't. However, if Sordo would keep the fastest pace at the rally also and win it, wouldn't it be the best possible kick-off for the season - fan glasses off - competion-wise? But as we know it's only SD. WRC needs new winners badly though - Latvala did it in 2008, Hirvonen in 2006 and Duval in 2005 and then we have to go back to 2003 (Märtin) and 2002 (Solberg, Loeb), so it doesn't make a nice story.

From what I know they have shared some personnel (a few people) during a longer planning phase, but mostly during the rally itself (mostly the rally week). The problem is that it's consultancy deals and for sure it brings higher costs for them both (even though I guess they very much get payed back the year after their own rally when the other "rent back"). It's a more expensive and a difficult way to work... Norweigans live in Norway, Swedes in Sweden - and it gives a lot of travel etc. So... I think it's helping a bit, but not solving the problem. However, remember I don't have the exact facts and knowledge.

Thanks! That's really strange... I certainly don't want to miscredit what you say, but I think it's some kind of misunderstanding. I worked their until 2007 and our discussions was exactly the opposite - that it's difficult to run a WRC rally without having it every year.

Ahh, now I remember perfectly. Haha. Thanks for the reminder!

However, that wasn't (at least from my point of view) exactly the same discussion. It was more about wether the the Swedish Rally should support (by personnel, knowledge, etc) the Norweigans or not. But not from the perspective of the own rally being run just every second year, because everyone at the rally have always seemed to consider that as a bad idea that is difficult to handle in practice (=economically).

However, it's interesting. I'll try to ask the guys this weekend to make the image a bit clearer :D

Four passes minimum at Shakedown
A Shakedown stage will be organised as both a media and promotional opportunity, and for competitors to trial their cars. For registered Manufacturers and WRC Teams, each car entered shall complete a minimum of four passages of the Shakedown stage. Shakedown may take place on part of a stage of the rally.

apparently there have been some problem at the Viggen stage during today's recce.
Somewhere on the stage there is a steep uphill slope and it seems that several of the 2wd recce didnt
manage to find enough traction to get up to the top so they got stuck at the beginning of the slope.

Fortunately Jimmy Joge arrived in his 4x4 SUV and towed the cars up the slope.

also some of the S2000 cars have great liveries.

Indeed Ste, the Ford livery is god awful. I'm curious how long the Abu Dhabi deal will run. The Fiesta S2000 'classic blue' livery from Monte Carlo was great on the other hand, and I hope the works team will use it in some sort of way next year.

The winner for me though is Gronholms livery. Reminds me of Ari Vatanen's black Escort from the 1982 British championship. :)

Not quite sure how long is the current deal with Abu Dhabi, but you must understand their money is what keeps Fords running and to some degree the whole championship.

What comes to Grönholm's livery it's more preciously Therman's livery. It's Therman's sponsors and also the same livery more or less he used on NORF 2009.

Even if I liked Petter's last season colours the new one is good looking in an attacking way. Fine-tuned Stobart cars - both Henning's and Matthew's/Ken's - look better than last season also.

Not so sure about tactics this time, Ford sacrifises Latvala if needed, my guess it will be driving with "straight ankle" from tomorrow morning until sunday.

I see the top 4 this time tomorrow being JML, Sordo, Mikko, Loeb but all within about 20 secs due to tactics. Marcus and Petter will be about a minute off the lead, with Ogier close by too.

Tactics will keep a lot of people close to the lead by the end of Friday in my opinion as Loeb and Mikko may have to lose a lot of time.

Agreed... I seriously doubt Sordo will be ahead of Petter or Marcus. JML might be, but I don't think so... I expect by the end of day 1 it'll be Seb and Mikko at the top, with either Marcus or Petter (probably the latter) in third.

P-G is much faster driver than Sandell. No doubt about that. He showed his speed in the JWRC and behind the wheel of the SX 4 WRC and last year with the old Fabia WRC taking incredible two SS wins in Norway.

And Tuohino is the snow expert and 8,8 secs difference to P-G shows that he is good driver, but not in the same class as Andersson...

Direction is not correct. Okey, +4,5 overall isn't that much, but Mikko needs to show that he's able to bite back. In psychological warfare Mikko is the underdog. He needs to step up. And usually Loeb isn't at his best on mornings, but that's mainly on Saturday mornings, though. But like said, definitely too early to cut along the blue lines.

Latvala +7,8s. That I'm not worried about. I'm quite confident he'll catch Sordo at least tomorrow afternoon, though Sordo is getting faster and faster on snow as well as on gravel.

Ketomaki has time on SS3 but no time on SS2. WTF?

Nyman lost left front wheel on SS2.

Does being on the pace of Wilson count as good? I know it's his first rally, but that is not where I expected him to be. I hoped for him to be nearer Henning.

Mikkelsen on Tuohino's pace - not bad at all.

I thought he has had poor times so far but staying with Wilson is not too bad considering first WRC and he only has a 12 month plan.

Well done! It is their job, but many times it seems that the only professionals are in this Forum :-)

Brynildsen had a spin into snowbank and had to stop and clear radiator from snow.

Brynildsen??

WRR: Spun, got stuck on snowbank, had to stop to clear the snow from the radiator and air filter. Thus the time loss.

Looks like a snowbank, strange that Gassner who started right behind has almost same lost time...

Yeh, gaining only 0,3s on Henning is quite a little...

Heh... No, in that he's not faster than he is... Maybe that's part of his plan to stay on the road till the finishing line...

I think J-M is following his orders. Taking it easy at the start and still keeping the top 3 (Sordo in particular) within striking distance. Solberg on the other hand has been disappointing thus far. I was expecting a much more competitive drive from him.

He was very cryptic on the radio, very unlike him - something is cooking there !
I think he wanted too much yesterday, and today he has been told to tune it down a bit, but it might be something with the car as well.

Henning need to change the gearbox.

For me, JML already lost some of his speed last year. According to a previous post on this forum, he is under instructions just to back up Mikko this year.

M.Gronholm said many times, he will fight for a win here in Sweden. But, looking on the results after SS4, I don't see happening this forcast!

Ken Rees said on the WRR that Petter did not recognize the car from testing, and that they have found something on service that they have changed, and that it had to do with lack of time in conjunction with the rapair after the SSS. Lets see if he is right, and the pace pics up !
