The Corona Rally Mexico will be held in Guanajuato next July 9, 10, 11 and 12 under a completely innovative format called “Rally of Nations,” where a large number of rallying stars will convene for this unique competition that will take place in the same facilities and along the same route that have hosted the World Rally Championship for five years now.

Although Mexico is not included in the 2009 calendar for the World Rally Championship, its organizers have decided to continue with what has become a tradition in North America. Given that the WRC is coming back in 2010, a new and interesting format has been created, consisting of a three-day competition along a 250-km route that features a super special stage and, for the first time, a street stage.

One of the highlights of this innovative rally is its scoring system, whereby points are tallied for each driver individually, as well as by country. At the end of each day, the points are posted on a scoreboard, so the time difference does not matter. The scoreboard sets the opening positions for the following day and so on, until the awards ceremony on Sunday, where extraordinary prize purses will be awarded per driver and per country.

The impressive roster of drivers that have confirmed their attendance makes the Corona Rally Mexico, in its Rally of Nations version, most appealing for rally fans. This is a sports event that not only offers a fascinating format and incredible facilities, but is also enhanced by the presence of the international personalities who will take part in it. Participating drivers include: for Finland, Harri Rovanperä and Toni Gardemeister; Dani Sola and Xevi Pons representing Spain; for Austria, Manfred Stohl and Andreas Aigner; from France, Didier Auriol and Brice Tirabassi; representing Italy, Mario Isola and Stefano Marrini; for Germany, Hermann Gassner Jr. and Mark Wallenwein; Canada will be represented by its best drivers, Patrick Richard and Antoine L’Estage, national champions for the fifth consecutive year. In addition, there will be distinguished competitors from Costa Rica, Ecuador, the United States, Uruguay, Peru and, of course, Mexico.

This adventure, filled with competitiveness and adrenaline, will have a special touch: drivers will be competing on equal terms, as they will all drive Group N4 cars compliant with the same regulations. Each driver and co-driver team’s skill will make the difference in determining the winner.

With all these attractions, Mexico and the state of Guanajuato are ready to bid a warm welcome to all the competitors, crews, fans and media, to what will undoubtedly be an unforgettable event.

What the....

First time I heard of this rally!
Cool. Hope everything goes well, but I don't think it's worth a trip down to Guanajuato.

- stohl and aigner competing with mitsu evo IX
(so I don´t think, that there would be any WRC at the start)
- 50,000 dollars for the winner, 500 dollars for a top stage time,
5,000 dollars for day win

It's a shame the lack of information about this event, because the level of entrys are so good and i think it will be a good competition on there.

All relevant teams/countrys seems to be completed unless Great Britain, wich appears in the poll of the official website, but i can't find his drivers.

Anybody knows who will represent GB?

Hello, don't know about the dead line for entries, but Petter Solberg has confirmed (it's supposed to be made official today), but he'll drive the 0 car, shame that no other Norwegian signed for the event. This looks like will be even better than the WRC event! The number of quality drivers is good, and with Gr.N cars seem that will be quite competitive.
Hope that we can get media coverage.

Petter Solberg is there?! Damn, I should have gone.
His website just said he was going to be in Mexico, but I had no idea he would be in the 0 car for the course of the rally! I think this is fantastic and I hope that next year's rally can be better than 2008.

Finally a North American event that looks interesting!

With all the noise that Americans make about they are Number 1 at everything, and so much better at everything compared to our cousins to both the North and the South, I wonder a bit how the Mexicans can organise such a good event with such a good entry list, and such a good PRIZE FUND, and the corporation that calls itself the "Premier Series" en El Norte can't do anything even 1/4 as good?

Hey muchachitos Mexicanos!
Congratulations on the event and please, keep the links and bulletins coming (con traducciones por favor!)

I think they will stay in WRC and therefore wanna do a big event even in a midyear like this. But then of course they can´t forget the resultings... :D

Satan! I didn't even think of that and that makes perfect sense!

Oh I asked over on a Mexican forum if they had links to results. It's only 0830 or maybe 0930 there now but things should be getting going soon--maybe.

I'll post länk if they answer back.

yup and the country standings can also be finded out from the main site. What Ive been reading information there has been a lot of mess about the times and the rally in stages havent been too well organised. As an idea the rally aint bad.

Also Spain is the only team what is driving their own cars and not the cars given by the organisers but by times it looks like Spain might have a small advantage because of that.

Here is what I can get from the official site and some forums.

Stage 1
Won by Pons, Sola 2nd, Garde 3rd. Stohl, Aigner
PG 12th having problems with his notes and taking it easy.
Phlip Morrow from team GB has some trouble and is last, possibly retired Mcshea with brake problems
Apparently Rovanpera Stopped just after the start...
Most drivers comment that is very slippery.

Stage 2
Sola 1st, Pons 2nd, Stohl 3rd, Tirabassi 4th, Garde, Aigner.
PG down to 14 with Turbo problems and Morrow retired.
Gassner had a puncture and Auriol had to stop to overtake in narrow road.

Stage 3 (Street stage)
Trivino 1st, Campos 2nd (in an N3 clio!!), Pons 3rd, Sandell 4th, Tirabassi, Stohl.

SS4, 5 AND 6, have been run but I cannot get any info on them sorry, Ill post as soon as I get some.

Plenty of pictures and updated results in the official website.
http://www.rallyofnations.com/result/frm_result.html

after stage 11 Stohl leads followed by Aigner, Auriol, Sola and Pons

Yesterday both Spaniards had trouble and that is why they went down the leader board (puncture and steerings), however Spain is still leading (dont know how that works)...

Also I think gardemeister has retired (or is way behind) and Rovanpera has re-started

yeah well done Stohl and Aigner, however team Spain got the nations cup... by points or something like that, they won more stages, but still great effort by the Austrians.
I was quite disappointed by the performance of team Finland, but ok, Im glad it all went smoothly (I mean organization, no stones being thrown at cars...) and that most of the drivers had fun.

salu2.
