Max has

confirmed that he will definitely not stand again in October's election[/*:m:2t2mh6dp]
endorsed Jean Todt as his preferred candidate[/*:m:2t2mh6dp]http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/76980

Well, If he endorses JT than Ari Vatanen is the right one.

I'm not sure that Jean Todt is too happy for Max support :) - but I think Todt should be good FIA president as well as Vatanen. It's also interesting that Jean Todt and Vatanen know each other very well Todt was once (1984?) Ari Vatanen's teamboss at Peugeot.

I am not against Jean Todt 'per se' as FIA figurehead. But his alliance to Max while head man at Ferrari, and the 'perceived' preferential treatment that Ferrari appeared to enjoy suggests there is a 'potential' for a conflict of interest.

I don't think anyone would doubt his commitment to the task however. But he did come across as a bit insular in his latter Ferrari years towards the rest of the grid.

I guess it depends on the team he builds around him as to his suitability - but he would be wise, if elected - to take a back seat approach to all matters F1.

This is of course JMMVHOO. ;)

Really hope the end result is some intelligent thought and action given to all the FIA run series.

If Max supports Todt, then it's almost certain that Todt will be elected too since Max and his views/opinions have too much support in WMSC. Shame for Vatanen - he faces a difficult challenge to have any kind of chance against Todt in the elections now.

Tough call.

Todt has his Ferrari past and I'll have to read endless BS here on the board if that happens. :s

On the other hand Vatanen doesn't believe in green technologies, he's a die hard Christian and believes that global warming is due to God's will! :s

Not sure what to think!

He's a Christian? He's not suitable for the job then.

Not a Christian like you and me, a die hard Christian who believe that about everything that happens is due to God's will. There's a difference.

PS: I'm baptized Catholic, but pretty much a non-believer.

I think probably Stewart, One Ear, or MS would be a good choice.

I like MS because he understands "Cheating" You would get nothing over on him !!

I think probably Stewart, One Ear... would be a good choice.

A halfwit and a half ear who only talks rubbish! Great choice to make F1 a bigger comedy.

BTW, MS is not interested, not even a bit.

Yes they are champions in driving, not in management, not in politics. I rest my case.

Is this what you had in mind?

As the Briton said in a letter to FIA member clubs on Wednesday,
he hopes to play “a modest role” himself in any Todt administration after he stands down in October

Well, if Mosely is to keep his promise of retirement this time, Todt is going to be the next FIA president.

Fingers crossed that he is good.

Well, he's the best prepared for that position, the only downside will be the endless rants around here.
If he get's elected I think I can leave with the bashing, again.

Well... he promised to continue MM´s excellent work

Well... he promised to continue MM´s excellent work

And it was a good move.
What he will actually do after that it's anybodies guess and only he knows.

However I prefer someone who will go for green technologies to someone who believe that global warming is due to God.

It seems to be Todt and Vatanen the present main contenders for this election.

It's hard....kinda like deciding if you'd perfer to be stabbed or shot ;) :D

Todt I like - he has experience and success across many forms of Motorsport but will always be open to accusation (rightly or wrongly - that's another debate!) of Ferrari bias.

Vatanen - again been in rallying, knows that sport well and rally needs to be re-organised. But no real experience of F1 or Touring Cars. Religious nutter....whether you belive or god or not, as is your right, he's come out with some very strange notions.

22nd July 2009, 12:58
Do we want a liar like Vatanen?

http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/77123

Seems like Autosport were printing lies too, but then that is to be expected from the Mclaren in-house magazine.

Vatanen looks amateurish with his mud slinging right now, maybe this is the usual approach for right wing politicians?!
Not to mention that we are yet to hear anything precise about what he plans to do if he get's the FIA president position.

Attleast we know that the other want change tings and the other has a intention to continue as before ..

Vatanen:
My main focus will be to unify the FIA and increase transparency for you, the owners of the Federation.

Todt:
“It is my intention to continue and expand the outstanding work of President Mosley, who for 16 years has worked tirelessly to strengthen the FIA‘s major motor sport championships and to position the FIA as the voice of the motoring public, actively promoting safe, clean and affordable mobility for all.

Unify the FIA?! How can the FIA be any more unified than it is right now?

And who are the owners of the Federation?

Unify the FIA?! How can the FIA be any more unified than it is right now?

I seem to recall that its members were far from unified over the issues surrounding the Mosley scandal.

I seem to recall that its members were far from unified over the issues surrounding the Mosley scandal.

Isn't that normal?!

A governing body is unified only in a communist state where they are pretty much done if say something against the mainstream.

What is now needed within the FIA is a decentralization, not a unification.

Vatanen is producing hot air like any average politician does.

He didn't even reveal his cabinet, I wonder why is that?

BDunnell

Isn't that normal?!

You were the one who suggested that the FIA is perfectly well unified, which has patently not been the case. It could have been better unified had events not occurred which caused a great deal of resentment.

Both boys are rally guys at heart, Todt used to run the super successful Peugeot rally team through the Group B era and Vatanen was driving for him.

"It is my intention to continue and expand the outstanding work of President Mosley...". Thanks for that laugh. Mosley tried to kill rallying, he almost killed F1. The new president needs to be well out of Max reach.

If Vatanen is president then fine, if Todt is president then that's also fine. Both are very well experienced, one as a driver at top level, and the other operating both F1 and WRC teams. They are both as different as chalk and cheese, yet both would do an exceptional job in my opinion.

We have a much brighter future to look forward to once the decrepit old dinosaur is gone and as I mentioned earlier, both are well qualified guys to be stepping into the position.

Just my 2c
