I should bookmark this page, a Kawasaki leading a superbike field! :D (though Kev Curtain had pole a last round of Aus Supers but still)

Also, Andrews and Camier have wildcards for the WSB round at Donington to throw the cat amongst the pigeons.

How has the racing in BSB been going this year? Is it as close as previous and what about grid and crowd sizes?

Ninj, the racing has again been very close, if not for the win as Camier has been 'da man'.

The grids are full and the crowds as ever fill every vantage point.

Whilst there was a loss of quality riders to WSB/WSS at the end of last year, the competition has not suffered.

Leon Camier inherited his fourth pole position of the season after changeable weather conditions at Snetterton forced the top ten shootout to be cancelled.

Lap times were taken from the second knockout phase after a shower towards the end of the session left too much of a gamble between slick and intermediate rubber for the shootout to be considered safe.

Crikey, Kev Curtain's still going? Fair play!

The grid's about 27-30 at full strength, the odd injury absentee etc but it's a strong lineup imho. In certain other places that I don't feel like contributing to there's some negativity as 'all the top riders have gone' - they're referring to Leon Haslam, Tom, Shakey and Cal from last year plus Kiyo, Gregorio Lavilla and Jonny Rea from 2007 but the obvious response to that it that their success on the world stage proves that BSB's in great health - it's exactly what's supposed to happen that the top guys get promoted upwards. I've been to watch at Oulton Park for the last few years, and watched a great lead dice in 2006 between Cal, Eugene, Tom Sykes and Leon Camier in the Brit Supersport race - now look at them!

In about 2001-2002 the grid was actually rather smaller than the last few years - I remember seeing a season opener from Silverstone with about 15 bikes on the grid one year, which was weird. Despite the guys moving on, we've got decent 'imports' this year like Josh and Julian de Costa (although Atsu Watanabe, twice Japanese champ, is having a real struggle) as well as the up-and-comers like Simon Andrews, Graeme Gowland and John Laverty.

The generally-given crowd figure for most BSB events is about 30,000-ish, it's arguably gained the upper hand over the British Touring Car Championship in terms of domestic series popularity after the BTCC has dipped slightly from it's mid-nineties heyday.

International viewers will get a look at Leon Camier, James Ellison and Simon Andrews at the weekend when they wildcard at Donington in WSB.
