This should be a real intriguing race. Jorge appears to have the race pace but this was also the case at Jerez and that didn't go according to plan. Vale has been very fast also but the pressure is right on him, outpaced by his teammate again, how will he respond if he's beaten again?
Stoner and Dovizioso look like battling for 3rd, both just slightly off the pace unless a little more speed is found in morning warmup.
Thereafter, it is looking quite close which is great. Here's hoping we are on for a battle royale.

In MotoGP yes, but for sure not in the 500cc class. I remember 3 GP's, and than I speak only about 1999, that were better: the British Grand Prix 1999, Valencia 1999 (with the very sliding McCoy in the rain) and Phillip Island 1999.

Stoner sure was a wreck afterwards, must have been a tough race for him. Amazing that he was able to hold Dovi off in that condition.

So, Lorenzo mugs Rossi at Mugello and Rossi returns the favour at Catalunya... I hope they can keep their rivalry amicable. So far so good.

What's happened to the Eurosport boys Toby & Julian? Because the deal to show Moto GP on Eurosport was done so late, both Julian & Toby needed to earn money elsewhere. I dont know about Julain but Toby was working at Le Mans this weekend, and last moto gp he was racing at Shelsley Walsh hillclimb. They will be back for Assen, next Moto gp. Tobe's commentray on that last lap would have been amazing!!!

Amazing last lap. I've been watching moto for 4/5 years now but I've never felt the need to post before. Rossi pulling his leg in with three to go had my pulse racing but that was just the start. Amazing racing, and so clean.

More than heat for Stoner, he was apparently pretty sick leading up to the race. He did well to salvage such a good points haul.

I agree Jan, I don't think there's a rider on the grid who could have pulled that pass off other than Rossi!

Difficult to find words to describe those last couple of laps. I really feel sorry for anybody who couldn't watch the race live. Damn, what a race! And I agree with Jan Yeo too, Rossi is on another planet. I really hope he can continue this form through the rest of the season.

Also, I have to say, I am amazed by Lorenzo as well, and he has improved a helluva great deal, even though I really, passionately wanted him to lose and eat the humble pie halfway through the race. I detest him because of his arrogance, but he was able to stay with Rossi all through the race, and even put in a very good move at the last lap, only to be outdone on the last lap by Rossi's genius.

Another interesting thing is, Catalunya is probably the only circuit which gave us the two best races of the 800cc era, first 2007 with Stoner's win and now this.

Funny how incredibly boring the same circuit is in Formula 1. :D

Rossi has his own style, he bends down along straight track and open up and put one of his leg down in the corners which may disturb riders behind, knocking the rivals off just on the last corner is destroying mentally. Lorenzo very much reminds me of the young Gibernau, tends to ride upright with arms relatively straight. Perhaps Lorenzo is determined to ride with some more strength, being elapsed in consecutive crash and injured last year did not make his motivation and skill lessened.

Having said this last two years ago, putting Lorenzo and Rossi at the same factory team would be dilemmatic, a situation that requires a choice between options that are or seem equally unfavorable or mutually exclusive. I've thought of him being alongside of Stoner somewhere on the Ducati or elsewhere whose bike is equal to Yamaha, and together they work hand in hand with enough maneuverability to be up against Rossi.

Yamaha might hire Lorenzo as regeneration to anticipate Rossi once he decides to retire from two wheels sport. But like it or not, being in position as such is not easy, as it may victimize his talent off for something to respect senior rider whom probably team leans on for the title.

I hope both riders can play the game clean, perform only based on rule of the sport and never try to politicize the game too personal which may cause Rossi to reverse the winding of old adversaries. Lorenzo is also to keep emotion cool, do not get provoked by continues pressure from his team mate who has snatched the win away from him just on the last corner. That's just the game.

However all depend on Yamaha team how can they manage their riders out to favor each other. Double thumbs up for both of them for such sportive and entertaining race :up: :up:

Don't tell me! When it said, "6 laps to go", my friend called me up too and asked in a very straight voice, "Dude, tell me you're watching the race." I told him, oh no, there is a race?? I'm barbecuing with my relatives on the balcony. Of course, he didn't believe me. :p

I think this is going to be the best year of 800cc MotoGP, for sure.

99 wins for Rossi hence his pointing to the 99 on Lorenzo's bike and confusing the race commentators who were still recovering from the last few laps and hadn't regained their composure. I think that is the first Motogp race that has had me on my feet, and I think I was making a lot of noise too - just as well the windows were shut.

What can you say after a race like that but WOW!

I think that was a pretty important race for Valentino and Jorge to have(duh). I think Lorenzo will learn to never assume that you have Rossi beaten and he'll be better prepared for Vale next time and I also think that for Valentino, it was an important win over Lorenzo. The pressure was starting to build on him about getting beaten by his teammate but to beat Jorge head-to-head in the dry will be a confidence booster for him. Listening to Heehaw's post race interview was interesting. He paid tribute to Rossi but was very careful and measured in what he said. It's on!

Stoner looked like death warmed up. It was a gutsy ride by him and hopefully it's nothing sinister and he can recover for the next race so we can see the same sort of closeness but amongst the three leaders together. That would sure be sweet!

And poor Dovi, don't fret my friend. You're factory podium finish if just around the corner.

Nice to see Hayden get his best result, even if only a 10th place. Here's hoping this is a beginning of a resurgence for him and for a turnaround for the Ducati Desmosedici being rideable for riders whose initials aren't C.S.
