One solution to the swine flu crisis for F1 would be to stage Grands Prix without spectators in the stands.

That is the claim of the Swiss specialist publication Motorsport Aktuell, after reports emerged this week that the Spanish region of Catalunya is recording the highest incidence of flu infections on the European continent.

The report quotes German health minister Ulla Schmidt as concurring that a potential pandemic, and public gatherings of thousands of people, do not mix.

"Everyone understands that there cannot be a major gathering of 70 000 people, if thousands of them could become infected,

Might have reduced numbers of spectators but I don't think there will be anything close to none.

Could the tracks survive, seeing as spectators is the only place they get money from over a race weekend.

I cant imagine an F1 race with no people in the stands. It would be so....spooky!

29th April 2009, 16:46
We'll all be dead before the Spanish GP anyway.

29th April 2009, 16:47
Sorry, didn't mean to panic anybody with that....

Well, if the Pig-Flu doesn't wipe out all of mankind, the survivors will only be hunted down by the Zombie undead infected corpses of its victims.

Scientific Fact, that is.

About as scientifically factual as the standard press report on Pig-Flu, anyway.

Wasn't there a big football match in Catalunya last night where 90,000 people gathered to spread germs?

 well said! If we could guarantee that anyone with flu had the common sense to stay inside away from everyone else it wouldn't be a problem. But we all know that's never going to happen..

On topic, it could well be a spectator-free zone. The A1GP event scheduled for Mexico in a couple of weeks has already been cancelled over this:

from what i've read and heard this pig flue is said to be milder and less harmful then a normal flue its just that the mexicans arent used to flues and thats why its so harmful in Mexico.

All is according to the plan of the great zombiebernei to eliminate all those pesky fans from ruining his weekends at the track,

plus while ticket sales may go down, those people staying home will tune in on tv and tv revenue will go up and down into his pocket

Fans? who needs them when you got TV audiences anyway.....

No. The fans were required to hold their breath until after the match! ;)
