View Full Version : Any Collectors Out There?

As I'm a bit anal I like to collect things, apart from cars the thing I collect most are License or Number Plates from countries around the world.
I started off trying to get a plate from each country that I had been to, now I buy or trade anything I like the look of, within reason of course.
I know of a French guy who recently paid $800 US on epay for a plate from Tibet (in other words a white on blue Chinese plate with the ideogram for Tibet on it), that's going a bit too far in my opinion! I was offered a pair from Syria for 700 Euro whilst I was there. Syrian plates are very very hard to get but 700 Euro was a little over the top. I'm thinking if I go back that I could buy a car for less than that, take the plates and abandon the car! :)
The plates most commonly collected are from North America, it's very popular for us old farts to try and achieve what's called a birth year run, ie a plate from every state in The US that has the year of your birth stamped on it.
US plates are easy as they were changed very frequently and have very many different styles and graphics. Hence there are lot's of them about. Canada used to be the same so I have quite a few old British Columbia plates from my wife.
So does anyone out there collect anything?
Also if anyone has anything of interest out there that they would like to part with, PM me, in particular I'm after plates with Arabic writing, African plates and plates from the former Soviet Bloc.

I'm a diehard collector also, have collected all sorts at various times...
But my real passion is for collecting BMW Motorsport diecast models and building plastic kits...

Besides english-language music, I have massive ethnic and chill-out music collections, got it from various place, brought myself, gift from a friend who just visited a country for business trip or taking pilgrim ...
The collections are mainly middle east stuff such as Arabian, music and dance which are likely product from Egypt, and India ranged from songs taken from soundtrack of films along with their dance is something I am addicted in until any chill-out collection from Buddha Bar, Karma, and Karunesh. Buddha bar is only compilation name and not by any means to insult certain religion. Karma is the same doesn't stand for reward or punishment because of deeds in the past.
The Romanian-born Michael Cretu electronic music of Enigma is also in the list of the collection. While for east far musician my choice goes to Japanese musician, composer and multi-instrumentalist Kitaro.
Looking for people who have the same interest with mine...

I'm a music junky (but only to my particular preferences) and for the last year and a half have been buying loads of music. I currently have a modest collection of about 400 CD's (up from about 150 last January) but I distinctly draw the line at spending silly money on a CD (£300 for Anglagards Hybris is a definite no-no).

Favourte labels? Lets see: InsideOut, GEP, Roadrunner (some good bands, then theres Nickleback), The Lasers Edge, The End Records, Sensory Records, Hydrahead, Candlelight, Century Media, Termo etc. A lot of the bands I listen to are on their own labels rather than sign with an already estableshed label.
Havnt bothered with the Japanese editions because they tend to be very expensive and I only ever find them after I've already got the album.
