Faster, more aggressive: Meet 'Kate's dirty sister'

Sebastian Vettel and the Red Bull car he calls 'Kate's Dirty Sister' have given Formula One championship leader Jenson Button plenty to think about ahead of Sunday's Bahrain Grand Prix. The eye-catching moniker came to light after Vettel powered through rain, spray and treacherous standing water to hand his team a breakthrough first victory at the Shanghai circuit last weekend.
"Like a ship, a car should be named after a girl as it's sexy," the 21-year-old German explained to reporters when asked about the name stuck on the dashboard of his car.

Vettel always names his cars.... and always a girls name.

Kate was his car for Season 2009 but he killed Kate in Australia. As such his new car is named Kates Dirty Sister.

Kid has personality. ;)

Of course the best Red Bull story of the weekend revolved around a small sticker on the front of Vettel's race winning car. Above the dashboard were three words: Kate's Dirty Sister. It was a cause of much amusement, and the explanation for it was just as funny as seeing it in the first place. Vettel has always given his racing cars ladies names – as they are sexy things. Last year's STR4 was Julie, and when he saw the Red Bull Racing RB5 he opted to call her Kate. After trashing his first car in Australia in the shunt with Robert Kubica, he was given a new chassis for Malaysia – which featured some updated tweaks that he felt made it ever sexier than before. Et voila – Kate's Dirty Sister.

haha i love drivers with personality! Jenson, Kimi, Webber and now Vettel are the drivers with true personality. Jenson because he says what he thinks and is often funny, Kimi because.. well he is kimi, Webber because he calls a spade a f$^#ing shovel and now Vettel who is incredible in that he is a truly funny bloke, but is german!

Vettel's sense of humour has been described as "very British" by people close to him. He is a devotee of Little Britain and Monty Python. He collects original Beatles vinyls and is quite good at imitating Franz Beckenbauer.

He has class :s mokin:

How many people will be backing "Kate's dirty sister" for the rest of the year? Does this add new meaning to the American term of rooting for your team?

Apparantly, the replacement car has a different feel to the original Kate, harder and more aggressive, hence it being called kates dirty sister.

gotta love the guy :)

It's not uncommon for teams to go through several chassis per season, so I can't wait to see what his next one's called. Kate's kinky cousin? Kate's drunken auntie? The mind boggles.

I wanna steal that name and use it to name a racehorse...

Imagine the melbourne cup "and around the final corner Makaybe Diva leads from Apache Cat, two lengths further back Snowstorm but going very wide is Kate's Dirty Sister, Kate's dirty sister is making a charge with 300 to go, its going to be neck and neck between kate's dirty sister and Makaybe Diva, 100 to go its anybodys race Kate's dirty sister Makaybe diva and its....'

'KATE'S DIRTY SISTER HAS WON BY A HEAD, i Mean by a neck, excuse me. Kate's Dirty Sister has won the Emirates Melbourne Cup!'

This is is Vettel's girlfriend. Her name is Hanna Prater. She is half german-half English.

I have no news of her in 2009, but I know that they were still together (for more than 3 years) when Vettel first won a race in Monza last year. Considering that I haven't heard of a break-up, I'm assuming they are still together.

Twelve-year-old German F1 star Sebastian Vettel has been in a relationship with schoolyard sweetheart Hanna Prater for some time

Vettel seldom took his lady to the track on race day. When asked why, he simply said: “Other men don’t bring their wives to the office.”

RJL25

I remember in one of the F1 press conferences last year Vettel and Alonso had a bit of a back and forth over women, Alonso saying that he doesn't know what he is doing on holidays becaust thats up to his wife, Vettel commented "I don't have the problem, I wear the pants in my house", Alonso countered back with "you can always tell a guy who isn't married"

You can't be seriuos.. all the guy has to do is walk into a bar and declare himself to be a F1 driver and earning a couple of mill a year.. even Kubica and Heidfeld could score!

So who is Hanna?
The 21-year-old is studying textile and design in Baden-Württemberg. The couple don’t live together, far from it in fact.
Vettel said: “We live 400 kilometres apart but we see each other all the time.”

I like the whole naming cars thing - in Zanardi's autobiography there was a chapter on how, whilst at Ganassi, the named the cars........I seem to recall one was called 'Midnight Pumpkin'

Other car had a girl's name, Old Midnight was the chassis which gave the mechanics grief because the car was cursed as they would do an all-nighter with it everytime they used it except it won them the 1996 Laguna Seca GP with that pass at the Corkscrew!

Naming cars is most prevalent in NASCAR, where teams are notorious for naming cars. Some of the best-known cars are known for their names.

Bertha - In the 1970's the DiGard Racing team had a notorious car that ran well but had trickery. Lead mechanics Gary Nelson and Buddy Parrott ran 40kg of buckshot in a part of the frame that was concealed. Darrell Waltrip, the current commentator, won many races in the car. One disaster exposed the secret, and is the reason current saloons are weight after the race too. The car sits in the personal collection of the commentator.

Midnight - Rusty Wallace's legendary <1600m car. As a Penske tradition, cars are named after wins. This took place at Richmond in 1992 at the night race (September), and he dubbed the car "Midnight". Midnight raced six years in selected races, often winning, before being retired. A similar car was named Midnight Rider.

Whitney - Another Rusty car that won the 1989 championship. It was this car that he drove when the title was won. It was named for Whitney Houston, and it was Rusty's big hit. Another car that year was Tia, named for team manager Barry Dodson's daughter. Sadly, five years after winning the championship, both of his kids (Barry III and Tia) died in a crash when they were thrown from the car.

Snake - Another Rusty car, this was named for the man who owned a Miller Lite dragster.

Fido -A car used by Robert Yates Racing in the early 1990's and engineered by Larry McReynolds, the late Davey Allison hated the car initially. After repairs, a dog collar and dog tag were put on it after it was rebuilt. It was a favourite car on the Yates team.

James Bond 007 - A favourite car of the Yates stable in the 1991-92 seasons. An "intermediate" track car (2400-3200m tracks), it won many a race for Yates, and was intended for a million-dollar run at the Coca-Cola 600 (a small slam won $1 million then) when it was destroyed at Sprint All-Star Race VIII in a last-lap dash for the cash. Allison was nailed by Kyle Petty after winning the race, and McReynolds had to accept the trophy while the driver was in the hospital in Charlotte.

Blacker - Named for its primer colour, this experimental chassis raced five Cup seasons at Hendrick Motorsports, with six P1's in qualifying and 12 of Jeff Gordon's 82 wins, and was part of three championships. Today the car is in a museum, painted as it looked in Sprint All-Star Race XIV with colour-changing ChromaLusion paint.

T-Rex: Used only in Sprint All-Star Race XIII, the car dominated that NASCAR reportedly said that car couldn't be used again. Carried livery promoting The Lost World.

I wonder if anyone in F1 would even consider those names.
