Istanbul Rally, to be held between 1st and 3rd of May on the gravel roads of Turkey, is the second round of European Championship. Entry list has just been published and it clearly shows the crisis on the Turkish rally scene.

Date: 01 - 03/05/2009
Official website: http://www.istanbulrally.org
Entry list: http://www.istanbulrally.org/dokumanlar/ENTRYLIST2009.pdf

Really sad,30 cars on the entrylist...

I'm afraid Croatia won't be much better...

Mirek
22nd April 2009, 18:31
I think that Croatia will be better because it's tarmac and PSD round ;)

urabus-denoS2000
22nd April 2009, 19:26
But in the meaning of Croatian drivers... :\ :hmh:

Tom206wrc
22nd April 2009, 19:41
Why Fontana not on the 207 S2000 from Grifone ???

urabus-denoS2000
22nd April 2009, 19:57
Probably because it's gravel (as Poland last year)

Tom206wrc
22nd April 2009, 23:42
Therefore S2000s aren't inferior nor less reliable than GrNs on gravel !!! :mark:

Mirek
22nd April 2009, 23:44
But Corrado is not fast on gravel. Having S2000 when there is no competition in ERC is pure waste of money. He would probably be on the same spot as with gr.N but for much more money...

According to this article http://www.autoklub.pl/24317,news.html one of the newspapers in Italy informed that A-Style Team wants Renato Travaglia to use Skoda Fabia S2000 in the remaining rounds of European Championship. Do you think it would be a good idea?

HaCo
23rd April 2009, 18:38
Of course a great idea!!! Give Skoda an ERC title, would be good for the team!

Basso does not do all rounds in ERC then?

Tom206wrc
23rd April 2009, 21:07
Great driver for Skoda if they chose Travaglia ;)

Absolutely. We've been discussing the issue in our national forum but, okey that's it, the big crisis, nothing to be done. Even the best Turkish drivers, who formed the top-spot places in last year's national competition, do not enter the first round of the national championship. We have some very competetive N4 drivers on Evo 9s, but it presumably won't bring much entertainment as it did last year! It would have been a great rally just like last year, if it were also a part of IRC this year. As local fans, we were also looking for our national hero, Serkan Yazıcı who is competing in Italy with a Fiat Grande Punto S2000, to enter the Istanbul Rally as a practice event for him to get used to his new car. But, ok that's the case, whatever the conditions are, we are looking for our guests and foreign friends for a nice, enjoyable and comptetive Istanbul Rally 2009 :)

I'm quite disappointed that there is no Isik and Yazici. Does Fiat Motorsport Turkey team still exist?

Is not true...
Travaglia will drive Skoda, for now, just for Targa Florio....

Corrado will drive Mitsubishi Grifone only for this race... from Croatia have a new 207...

Unfortunately no. One of the two drivers racing in Turkish Rally Championship,, Fatih Kara, joined the military forces for the required military service. The other driver, Yağız Avcı, will drive a Evo IX this year. There is no way for Volkan Işık to race for a full championship this year as far as I'm concerned. But, Serkan Yazıcı should have been in the entry list of Istanbul Rally :(

Strange...on the Istanbul Rally website Solowow has no penalty and is leading with 11.6s advantage who is right

muscrae
2nd May 2009, 12:40
Solowow loses nearly 1.5m in SS4 and SS5 and moves down to third.
Betti is new leader but only by 9.8s ahead of Yağız Avcı.
Avcı is really flying with his Evo IX, especially in the afternoon loop of the stages.

Gooo Avcı Gooooo, Gooo Parkur Racing !!!!!!

Leg one over after nine stages

3.8s is the gap between leader Luca Betti and Michal Solowow(who lost times because of puncture in SS4 or 5)... :D

Six stages for tomorrow to run again ;)

Tom206wrc

Good job from Luca Betti this morning !!! He extends his lead to 6.5s after SS10 :)

Jarek Z
3rd May 2009, 09:49
Solowow back in the lead after SS12! The difference is just a fraction of a second, so it will be an interesting battle for the win!

Tom206wrc
3rd May 2009, 09:49
Look at that !!! Gap between Solowow and Betti after SS12: 0.1s !!!!! :D :D

This morning's three stages are to be rerun before end of Istanbul rally...I hope gaps will remain so small :)

Betti out?

Jarek Z
3rd May 2009, 12:47
Luca Betti seems to be out. His name is missing in the results of SS13 and 14. Michal Solowow is a sole leader with one stage to go. It will be his first ever win in the ERC rally.

muscrae
3rd May 2009, 12:55
Solowow wins the rally.
National Evo IX driver Yağız Avcı finished 2nd overall and 1st in Turkish Rally Championship, absolutely great performance from the young driver... :)

Jarek Z
3rd May 2009, 13:17
Is Yağız Avcı related to Nejat Avci, former Renault Turkey driver?

PLuto
3rd May 2009, 13:18
Where is Todor Slavov? Did he not start the rally?

Todor started into rally, but he had problems before rally, because he hadnt right spare parts from Renault Sport to his engine, so he tried to start with it. But the engine blew up 1 kms after start of SS 1...

Jarek Z
3rd May 2009, 13:28
Seven years ago the same rally was won by another Polish crew Janusz Kulig and Jarek Baran. This year it's Michal Solowow and Maciek Baran. Maciek is Jarek's brother :)
