Has just come out. Ron Dennis is stepping down from McLaren F1.

More to come soon.

Is being said that he's stepping down to save Lewis' reputation.

They are just talking about this subject on BBC1 over here, but they didn't mention about Ron Dennis actually stepping down. They did mention that McLaren are trying hard to appease Lewis and Anthony Hamilton though.

Just seen a bit more. One newspaper is saying that Ron Dennis is going to 'scale down' his role at McLaren whilst another newspaper is saying that he is 'going to' quit.

On Radio 1 they said it is so McLaren can avoid punishment in 'liargate'. Now correct me if I'm wrong but Ron wasn't involved in that in any way?

According to Autosport (http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/74482) he "had a notable presence in the garage during the Australian Grand Prix". "Noteable" in the sense he was simply there, or "noteable" in the sense he was involved?

Notable in the sense that he is no longer in charge of the race team and yet he's still there?

Sounds like spin to me. "I'm stepping down to save the team" = "I was going to stop going to races anyway"

Anyone who reads motoring magazines will know Mac are about to embark on building at least 2 new road cars, the division which Dennis is heading up so I imagine its partly to appease certain factions but more to do with the new job and finally letting go of the F1 team.

Max wants Ron gone. Probably Ron was the man who exposed his hidden side. This is the revenge. I know that it is a bit far-fetched, but that's my guess.

Well there does seem to be a vendetta against McLaren recently, so that would stack up!

Don't know. He could have gone all that way just to make the tea.

Well if he was doing a handover it would make sense for him to be there just for Australia to make sure everything went ok. Otherwise it'll be like "RON! What's the password for the /etc/init.d/car_start script?!!"

I love the way that a lack of knowledge of sportsmanship and rules can be spun into a "vendetta" against the culprits.

On topic...It's time Ron went. The once great name of Mclaren has been dragged through the dirt in the past two years. He was in control when it happened. A shame, because at one stage his legacy looked like being legendary, but now.....well, best get your coat.

Do I think it will "save" Mclaren from punishment? Doubtful, since the people Ron put in place were the same people who have acted dubiously twice now and are still there.

But it might.

Dennis will focus entirely on leading the new sports car business, McLaren Automotive, which will now become an independent company, and which plans to launch the first model of McLaren sports cars in 2011.

So, just confirmation of what was said in November (http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/71986).

I dont get it? Why is he taking the blame in liargate and yet he still hasnt apologized for spygate?

Its 2007 that I expect him to apologize for.

Storm

Its like unofficially saying, I take the blame for it - isn't it henners?

Although the article says, when asked if he is leaving now so they will get a lesser penalty (as in has a deal been struck?) he said "no"

Did anyone expect him to say yes? This is Ron Dennis we are talking about

He's taking the blame for Liargate? I hadn't heard, do you have a link for this??

"I am holy. I am being offered so that the ever innocent McLaren can live long and prosper".

Effectively he´s taking the blame. And he shouldn´t. Like I said, its the 2007 f*ckup he needs to apologize for. He knew everything and still insists his team was working behind his back.

It's strange to look at the dated google satellite image of huge state-of-the -art Woking facility under construction knowing how fragile their enterprise has become in 2 seasons.

About time...

If Lewis had won the championship in 2007 then Ron wouldn't have even around for 2008.

"Q. What was your feeling last night then when you heard he had gone?

LH: I wasn't disappointed."

Now, maybe there is nothing to read into that....

I would say that is borderline dis-respectful taking into account that teh only rreason he made it to F1 was thanks to RD's backing of his race career over the last 8 to 10 years.

I think that LH's full comment, and the next Q&A paints a rather different picture, but I still get the impression from the whole interview that it was something he would rather not be talking about.
