View Full Version : Cars that were built but never raced
Can someone give me a list of Formula One cars that were built, but never raced in a Formula One race.
Especially if it was by a team that never raced or a team that built there final car, but it never ended up racing.
Thanks for Posting!

Well, the Zeta was definitely unlucky not to have made it onto the grid.

Well the Mastercard Lola comes to mind or that farcial Andrea Moda, which made it to exactly one race at the hands of Roberto Moreno. Or the abandoned project of Harvey Postlethwait.

Recently there was the McLaren MP4-18 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McLaren_MP4-18), built for the 2003 season but kept failing the crash tests.
Well, the Zeta was definitely unlucky not to have made it onto the grid.

Those were the days of the 107% rule, and they weren't even close.

I think that's the car that Max modeled his F1 budget-capped grid after! ;)
Should be no problem fielding a whole grid for under 30 million!

Marco Apicella I think, he did pretty much all the testing from what I remember and what it says somewhere on that site

I have this book from Veloce "Unraced" regarding modern cars
DAMS GD-01 1995
Dome F105 1996
Lola 1997 (mastercard)
Honda RC__ cars 1999 (Harvey Postlethwaite)
Toyota TF101 2001 (w/v12)
McLaren MP4/18 2003
of note the MP4/18 was great, but too fragile.
also Honda would have been competitive 10 years ago had they implemented Harvey's cars. they decided to polish a turd, tyrrell....

Honda engineers also built a couple of F1 cars as an after hours project while they were supplying McLaren back in the early 90s, they were so uncompetitive that they merely showed the difficulty of designing a whole F1 car from scratch. Can't remember what they were called thouhg.
