View Full Version : Best and worst Burgers

Best: My Buffalo Burgers.

I really meant restaurant burgers.
Best: Licks (a small chain) make a really good burger.
I have had good burgers in many mom and pop retaurants.
Worst: White Castle (you eat the box they come in and throw the burger to the crows or seagulls then shut your window quickly before they throw it back.)
Most race track burgers rate a close second.
Most over rated: The famous Webers on Highway 11 north of Orillia.
Not nearly as good as when they when they started and
never all that great but the place is a happening.

PS If any body says Wendy's for best I will probably throw up.

Buffalo burgers kick some serious azz. With just the right seasoning, they are hard to beat. Burgers made from lean Angus are also very good. When my dad was still around and we had the farm, we had our own meat ground. So the best cuts from the cattle, hogs and the odd deer went into the grinder. I miss those days.

The best "restaurant burger" that I ever had was a creation called the "Gus Burger". Served only at the White Spot restaurant in Charlottesville, VA. A big cheeseburger with a fried egg placed on top - you could stand there and watch it fry... while you were fried. I haven't had one in 20 years or so, and I've never eaten one while sober (:dozey :) ... but at 3AM when it was cold and the ol' stomach was rumbling, it was hard to beat a Gus Burger. The White Spot was the right spot. :D

I've had some expensive (read "overpriced") burgers at restaurants, etc. But until I get to try a Kobe burger, I doubt I'll find a burger that tops what my parents used to provide.

As far as (any) chain burgers:  Most are edible... that's about all I would say.

P.S. I've also heard that Scottish Highland beef is out of this world. It's hard to come by but well worth the effort from what I've heard.

I used to eat at a little diner called White Manna at Hackensack NJ, they made the best little burgers

Best? Forgive me for blowing my own trumpet but I make lovely burgers with fresh beef, onion, worcestershire sauce and my own blend of herbs and spices - they're even better if you BBQ them.

Honourable mention to the greasy van which used to park up outside a nearby B&Q. Heaven knows what's in their burgers, and the calorie count is probably best left to the imagination, but I'm drooling even thinking about them :facelick:

The worst ones, by a country mile, are the limp lukewarm tasteless slices of crap served up by a McDonalds near you.

Have to agree, McD's over here is like chewing cardboard, although they do seem to differ in taste and quality from branch to branch, only ever as a very last resort.
I dont really eat them much and so haven't tried a lot of different burgers to have an experienced opinion, but Burger Kings Angus and Whoppers are quite tasty.. especially when topped with extra Bacon. ;)

We have some different chains here in Ireland. I'm mostly a chipper guy so you probably wouldn't be familiar with those.

Best: Eddie Rockets, even if you have to wait an age. I understand some American/Canadian members might think 'meh', but the American style of burger there is different to most other types in restaurants around Ireland inc. McDonald's, Burger King etc

Worst: McDonald's. Its a typical choice but they are so bad. Most burger stalls which rip you off at sporting events and the music festivals are certainly up there (down there?) too.

I'm getting hungry just talking about this. But what's different about the burgers there, the toppings or the way the meat is seasoned?

I'm getting hungry just talking about this. But what's different about the burgers there, the toppings or the way the meat is seasoned?

The meat seems to be thicker, juicier and more succulent and burnt a bit more (in a good way.) The toppings are more full and less organised. The bun seems to be loosely placed on top.

In the likes of burger king, the burger feels more compact. Its still enjoyable, of course, but, to me anyway, doesn't feel like so much of a treat. Its nice food, but thats it. Eddie Rockets is the place to be if you want a meal to go out and enjoy for the meal. But, then again, the price is considerably higher too which is why I don't go there often.

Best: Hawai Burgers, a small chain only present in my town. Burger King could also qualify here but I like them pretty much lot maybe because I don't eat them often as they don't a have a restaurant in my town

In the middle: My sister's hamburgers and McDonald's

Worst: That thing they call "burger" sold in the football stadium

Tony: I have had my doubts about you for a while. Now I know you are in need of help. I mean even the seagulls reject White Castle burgers and you like them? And I thought Danica Fan was delusional!!!!!! :D

Supper tonight was a 6 oz Buffalo burger (yes real Buffalo) with Cajun spicing, real Old Cheddar Cheese (not processed crap) and Cdn. Back Bacon (aka Peameal Bacon) on a whole wheat bun.

There is no 'Burger Joint' that comes close to that.

I love burgers but we don't have a lot of good burger joints over here,
so I don't mind the mass produced chain burger in the US whenever I have been there in the past...I liked whoppers and Hardee's too, although I probably like Arby's roast beef more :) (with their curly fries!)

There is one called Burger King (a small place where college students hang out, not the real BK chain) which I used to visit a lot in my town. It served really big burgers dripping with mayo and some sauce .

Buffalo Burgers, Elk Burgers, Moose burger, pork burgers, aren't on the list. I love moose burgers but They don't apply. Neither do Buffalo

I agree about home-made burgers. I too make a good one. The consistency is key. The meat must not be too tightly-packed, to not coin a phrase.

I am not commenting on Ben and his placing his meat....

AS for Chain burgers, Hardee's is the best. I wont even eat any of the others now.

That said, give me a Montreal style smoked meat sandwich or a roast beef sandwich any day. Heck, Hot Dogs are more my favourite really.

When we cook burgers around here, good quality lean ground beef, mixed with bread crumbs, an egg and some onion and done on the BBQ with the right condiments and THAT always tastes good when I have a cold beer.

My wife reckons White Spot burgers in Vancouver are the best, mind you I'd rather eat her home made beetroot burgers myself.

Failing that give me any hamburger from a take away in Australia, a real one with cheese, lettuce, beetroot, tomato, onion and tomato sauce, none of this imported mustard, ketchup and gherkin crap. :p

White Spot burgers? I think she is talking about a good quality restaurant burger but I don't remember them being that earth shattering.

Then again, as I said, burgers are not really my thing. I like them, but I don't die for them the way some people do.

Timbo's in Fyshwick make the best burgers. Had one today and it was at it's most awesomeness. $5.60 for a burger with the lot, a whole meal in a burger.

See Fyshwick is good for things other than Porn and Fireworks :)

Apparently McDonalds burgers in places like Poland and Russia taste better than they do here because the McDonalds in those countries haven't been put under the same pressure from the obesity crew to make their burgers less addictive (less tasty).

The best burgers you can buy I made by me at Booths Supermarket fresh raw counter. 1/4pounders made with super-lean silverside. We also sell beef burgers with jalapeno peppers and cheese in them.

Pork and apple burgers are the worst. Pork with apple has always seemed like a strange combo to me.
