View Full Version : Brawn's Future Colour Scheme

Now that Brawn have written a fairy tale, how likely is it that various companies are now likely to jump on board?
If Mercedes-Benz want any kudos from this because they supply the engine, would they want their silver all over the car? Would Sir Richard Branson want his Virgin red on it? How about Henri Lloyd? Wouldn't a silver and red car look like a McLaren?
Or are they likely to keep their yellow and black for whatever reason? I'm sure money talks louder than sentiment.

However I suspect it will change substancially.

As a white car, it stands out. They should keep it mostly white.

They should indeed keep it predominantly white. I would like to see the Virgin Atlantic livery on the car: mostly white, with a red tail and a hint of blue. Also, they should use a dark tone for the two edges of the front wing, it doesn't look as weird that way (see Williams). Two small Union Jacks on the sides, for instance on the wheel rims. BTW, I am surprised Mr. Haug doesn't insist on a visible "Powered by Mercedes-Benz" sign on the engine cover. It would be good damage limitation and Mercedes cartainly deserve the credit for helping the team.

Who is to say that Virgin will be the title sponsor?
As recently as a few days ago, Brawn GP would have been happy if the local chippy had offered them £50 worth of sponsorship, so it was no surprise they bit Branson's hand off when he came knocking with a briefcase full of Virgin stickers.
But now they can practically name their own price, and it might not necessarily be a price that even Sir Beardface (It's Beardfacé, why do you people insist on calling me Beardface?!*) is willing to pay.

Virgin isn't just a sponsor, they are also an investor and therefore part owner of the team. Expect a predominantly Virgin livery on the car, however this is Virgin, they will put form over function for sure, they will want the sexiest F1 car out there regardless of what colour it is and how easy it is to see the Virgin logo's

So it doesn't sound like 'investment' at all and £500,000 doesn't go far in F1.
Wise from Branson tho, don't commit yourself. But it would be disappointing if they pulled out after 2 races.
The sponsorship if extended at the same rate would be £4.25 million for the season. Doesn't seem much in F1 terms?!
Edit: So it's dollars (strange considering that Virgin is British and so is Brawn) Then the deal looks even worse.

30th March 2009, 14:10
Well seeing as the management buy out would never have taken place without Honda leaving a significant amount of cash/investment in the team they might as well put the old environmentally friendly Honda livery back on it.
If I were Honda I would be wanting as much money back as I could get from any future sponsors that sign up to Brawn GP.

I miss the black cars...
Anyway, money talks, so you can expect anything. Look at what happened with Renault´s livery: it went from a nice one (the Mild Seven one) to the not-that-good ING one. And when you think about their early liveries with Renault works livery you realize how much they´ve lost. No doubt a yellow/black one was the best.
Brawn is not looking bad now, but they´ll surely change it, and the more sponsors try to jump in, the more changes we´ll see.

A 'Virgin Brawn' car COULD end up looking very similar to a Ferrari from a distance: All (Virgin) red base with 'white out of red' Virgin logo signage
R.Branson will very much want the car, when viewed on track or in the media, to appear clearly as the VIRGIN car and I have a feeling this is the route theyll take

Thinking about Virgin as a global brand any sponsorship would probably be in the form of Virgin Atlantic, so its the most globally known arm of the company, whilst other arms such as Media will still benefit from their close association.
Virgin Media/Trains/Any thing else would be silly as they would only be relevant in a few, if not one market, the UK and people in Brazil wouldn't really bother about it

I hope they mostly keep the current livery. I think they should put more black on the car. Maybe if they had balck side pods they could stick great big Virgin logos on there.
To me, now they've won the first race they shouldn't change it completely regardless of who's sponsoring them. People now know Brawn GP for the flourescent yellow (which is awesome by the way), white and black.
They should put slightly more black, slightly more yellow on the car, maybe put some red on it for Virgin, and concentrate on winning the championship. Plus, I bet they've got more overalls ordered now with the yellow and black on them so that's just more costs.
i bet the sponsors will be flooding in now! Let's hope more British companies get involved.
Oh, by the way, Honda don't deserve ANY credit for helping the team financially, because thanks to them, they've wasted a championship challenge with the Honda name, and they've also helped cost 250 people their jobs. They already screwed Super Aguri remember.

Here in the US there are a fair number of hondas running around with similar hubcaps, purchased at pep boys and made by APC.
But seriously, aren't there some FIA rules about livery changes?

I think they are allowed but they need all the teams and the FIA to agree. Midland changed its livery mid season when Spyker took over
I think they are also allowed to change colours as long as the overall design remains the same, I remember BAR using a blue/yellow over white 555 livery instead of the red/black over white lucky strike livery in china

Something to remember - very few of the "Virgin" companies have ANYTHING to do with each other. Branson hires out the logo and name to anyone for enough £€$ these days - he's has a majority in a few, a small minority stake in more, and nothing at all bar the licensing fees from most of them.

I suspect if Virgin becomes a title sponsor, we'll see them on the Airbox, not the sidepods. I think the white with large red or possibly the green Virgin logos with the existing day-glow yellow would look sweet. The mercedes logos aren't even that prominent on the McLaren and I doubt they would be on the Brawn unless Mercedes started GIVING Braun their engines. I think they could easily incorporate the virgin media graphics on a black livery and retain the yellow as it's in the Media logo. They could even keep the black team unis. I'm going to put my money on a white virgin logo on a red airbox and some other red virgin logos elsewhere
When I get some time, i'll do up another colour scheme....
This one was just for starters to get the ball rolling.. :)

Virgin is actually a decent choice whom a team should be partnering with, Brawn GP color scheme just looked like they were improperly prepared, didn't reflect predominant color of virgin. Perhaps it had something related to how much support virgin was pouring forth to the team. They can stand the color as it is although we hope any improvement in a row with more sponsors involved to support the team.
Virgin sounds good if it have opportunity being part of the name of team. Nissanity has been introduced to the floor, but adopting the same method to name teams sponsored by virgin would invite some pros and more cons...

Branson is going to ransom other commercial income.
So If I'm reading this correctly,
they might as well Change their name from Brawn to Virgin! Whatever
Sir Richard Branson's Virgin Group is poised to strike the most extraordinary sponsorship deal with the new Brawn GP Formula One team. It has exchanged heads of agreement whereby Virgin Group will guarantee the team US$30 million in sponsorship for 2010 in exchange for exclusive rights to the team's commercial income from any further sponsorship it can gather.

Nothing is wrong with the name of Brawn GP team, official team title could be sometimes crucial to commercialize their involvement in the championship. History will note them down.
Minardi is good example that time will not easily tear them down, besides the fact that two title holder was a Minardi graduate. ;)
