Big deal
I had a ford escort that would peg 80 mph going downhill

Ya...but can you pick up chicks in that? Maybe tree hugging enviroweenies but they usually are ugly vegetarians who have proclivity to be gay...

ROFL! My Mini versus your Escort would be a tight run thing then!

But with a sail you'd have a load of new excuse at traffic stops.

"Honest officer, I just wasn't ready for that gust."

Laugh all you want but there were many a fast red car that tried to tell the police that weren't me going 82 mph, it were that black ford escort...

It is very true what a car looks like.
My ex had an 87 black Nissan Pulsar. Nothing unusual, right. Never attracted much attention.
Then we got a Sportbak (Their spelling) and painted it black. The wheels were painted black and the windows had the highest level of tint legal (well maybe a tech over). Never actually got pulled over because of appearance but had cops turn around and follow us. Before the deck we never got a ticket. We did after but they were legit.
The deck did increase the top speed by over 20k. over the stock deck. I won't say just how fast but in excess of a 100k over our top speed limit of 100 k.
It was one horny looking car in all black with the sportbak. The trouble was the option deck was very expensive and only came in gray. Poor marketing.
I wheeled and dealed with a dealer I knew for 4 months before we bought at dealer cost. They had had one in stock and couldn't sell it. We then painted it to match the car at their expense so we paid less than dealer cost.
