Moi :) But not with the current PC as it's not mine. I got about 3.4Ghz out of my 2.8Ghz P4 without killing it :)

Funny story

Heat? Nah! That's how "warm" it was running last year during winter. It has a dirty great big 6 heatpipe copper heatsink on it and it's one of the last Northwood P4's so it runs as cool as anything.

Keep XP installed on another hard drive? Tbh Vista seems very stable to me and hasn't crashed yet. Small problems with internet explorer shutting down but not much else :)

As long as you have a back up of your stuff Ian and a copy of XP to go back to you should be fine.

Just out of curiosity is it a legit version? If not then when you install you can choose whatever version you want and it will run for 30 days. There is an exe you can download to bypass the whole protection thing. If it's a legit version you can still do this but it's kind of pointless to choose a version other than the one you've purchased because then you'll have to reinstall later.

a) Firefox is not Internet Exploder! http://www.motorsportforums.com/forums/images/icons/tongue-anim.gif
b) You can go to Tools -> Add-ons -> Themes -> Get Themes

Forgive me if this has already been discussed, but is anyone else having problems with MS IE 7.0? I just installed it and, for the most part, it works fine, but every now and then it crashes. It seems to happen more on specific web sites and not at all on others. Are there still known bugs in IE 7.0?

Cheers!

nicemms
5th January 2007, 17:14
I used to have that problem but I don't any more. I know there was a known problem but i presume its been sorted by now. However I could be wrong!!

It only crashes now when i open too many tabs.

IE7 is a bug itself! :p :

Daniel
5th January 2007, 19:16
Does it crash with Flash websites? We have problems with flash sites but everything else is fine :)

schmenke
5th January 2007, 19:38
Yeah, I think that may be the problem.
As an example, this site in particular is giving me problems:

www.tsn.ca (http://www.tsn.ca)

(flashy innit? :p : )

Is there a way around this problem (a setting in IE options that can be toggled)?

Saw that :) I hope Sony's Blu-Ray goes the way of Betamax, MiniDisc,SACD and the rest of their formats.

Microsoft have also released the XBox 360 v2 and people are already whinging because they bought a V1 and it doesn't do what the V2 does.

http://www.engadget.com/2007/01/05/the-second-xbox-360-revealed-codename-zephyr/

Now really if you buy a brand new car and 2 months later a newer and better model comes out it's not the car manufacturers fault. It's not like the V1 360 doesn't do what it's advertised to do. It does that well. The V2 just does a few more things. If the V2 has an integrated HD DVD drive I wouldn't mind getting one :)

As the processor in the V2 360 is built on a 65nm it means Microsoft will continue to make even more on each 360 and can afford to lower their prices even more while Sony haemmorages yet more money on each PS3. Serves Sony right for trying to be too smart and not actually listening to what people were wanting and thinking that people wanted expensive consoles

I havn't had that many crashes on IE7 although my "The Weather Channel" is crashing all the time. It is interesting that my downlaod of IE7 also has resulted a "restore" icon on my desktop.

I'll persevere with the IE7 for awhile, because I am sure a helluva lot of "reports to microsoft" must be flooding microsoft. I suggest everytime the damn thing crashes, we report to microsoft.

I also wonder whether microsoft ever takes any notice of these reports.

reasons as to why I have used the release candidate version since I installed it back in August. Thank goodness I saved it and burned it to disc. :D

Tried the final version, and had the bugs, so I uninstalled it and went back to the release candidate. The funny thing is that when it was installed on the Dell via Windows Update download, it worked as if it was normal.

Go figure. :\

Subject: Dear Tech Support
Dear Tech Support:

Last year I upgraded from Girlfriend 7.0 to Wife 1.0. I soon noticed that the new program began unexpected child processing that took up a lot of space and valuable resources. In addition, Wife 1.0 installed itself into all other programs and now monitors all other system activity. Applications such as Poker Night 10.3, Football 5.0, Hunting and Fishing 7.5, and Racing 3.6.

I can't seem to keep Wife 1.0 in the background while attempting to run my favorite applications. I'm thinking about going back to Girlfriend 7.0, but the uninstall doesn't work on Wife 1.0. Please help!

Thanks,
A Troubled User. (KEEP READING)

Dear Troubled User:

This is a very common problem that men complain about.

Many people upgrade from Girlfriend 7.0 to Wife 1.0, thinking that it is just a Utilities and Entertainment program. Wife 1.0 is an OPERATING SYSTEM and is designed by its Creator to run EVERYTHING!!! It is also impossible to delete Wife 1.0 and to return to Girlfriend 7.0. It is impossible to uninstall, or purge the program files from the system once installed.

You cannot go back to Girlfriend 7.0 because Wife 1.0 is designed to not allow this. Look in your Wife 1.0 manual under Warnings-Alimony-Child Support. I recommend that you keep Wife1.0 and work on improving the situation. I suggest installing the background application "Yes Dear" to alleviate software augmentation.

The best course of action is to enter the command C :\ APOLOGIZE because ultimately you will have to give the APOLOGIZE command before the system will return to normal anyway.
Wife 1.0 is a great program, but it tends to be very high maintenance. Wife 1.0 comes with several support programs, such as Clean and Sweep 3.0, Cook It 1.5 and Do Bills 4.2.

However, be very careful how you use these programs. Improper use will cause the system to launch the program Nag Nag 9.5. Once this happens, the only way to improve the performance of Wife 1.0 is to purchase additional software. I recommend
Flowers 2.1 and Diamonds 5.0 !
WARNING!!! DO NOT, under any circumstances, install Secretary With Short Skirt 3.3. This application is not supported by Wife 1.0 and will cause irreversible damage to the operating system.

Best of luck,
Tech Support

I have just bought a flat screen monitor and am pretty pleased with it, as I've been looking for one for a while and know next to nothing for what to look for in a monitor.

Well, when I say just bought it, I mean I bought it last week and have been looking for a cable to plug it in with since then! :p :

Daniel

It didn't come with a VGA cable. I thought I could use the one from my existing monitor. Of course, it is built in to it and unusable :\

Daniel, care to tell me what DivX codecs work in Vista for 100% ?

Daniel
10th March 2007, 08:10
http://labs.divx.com/LatestWinCodec

Known issues:

DivX Codec does not yet support Microsoft Windows Vista.[/*:m:2ih0ax0z]
But I'm sure it won't be long till they get it sorted :)

You could try the ones here though http://www.xvidmovies.com/codec/ someone said they got it working by using the codecs from that site.

Daniel
10th March 2007, 08:11
Or try this one http://www.mydigitallife.info/2007/01/19/download-free-vista-codec-package-423/
