View Full Version : Can we ban Toyota drivers please?

What is it with Toyota drivers? Rovers and Honda drivers have a reputation for being badly driven by people with ears the size of satellite dishes and pension books lodged in the sun visor. Toyota drivers are much worse. I have lost count of the number of times I've been stuck behind a Yaris or Corolla or Avensis screaming something like 'COME ON!!! WHAT THE FECK ARE YOU DOING! or 'IT'S A @$*!"%£ 60MPH ZONE! WHY ARE YOU ONLY %&"@# GOING $&"£#@ THIRTY "$£%*@#'£ SEVEN!! To make things worse Toyota's aren't even good cars to look at when you are stuck behind them. They are just metal boxes with wheels.

I thought that there might be something that happens to a person when they get into a Toyota that makes them forget how to drive. But on second thoughts the only reason why anyone would by a Toyota is for reliability. Would anyone with a passion for cars ever buy a Toyota? I only know of one petrol head who has a Toyota and he has a Supra.

So yes, anyway. Who wants to ban Toyotas and there drivers from the roads?

hmm.. well, i dont have toyota, but wouldn't anybody have a right to be mad if somebody was doing 37 is a 60 MPH speed zone? :p

in any case toyotas are cool cars, so i dont think we should ban them :p

Banning Toyotas will make moving around faster, of course it will be because the number of cars on the road will be cut in half ;)

If you banned all the Toyota drivers round Bradford and Leeds ,then there would be hardly any taxis or Asian taxi drivers

Think I ought to elaborate my last post as I happen to be a Toyota driver who isn't a doddery old fool and definately think of myself as a petrolhead. I see your point about the Avensis etc. but you can't impose a blanket ban on Toyotas because you would be losing cars like the MR2 which are the sort of thing that car manufacturers should still be making. There aren't that many mass manufacturers at the minute who would be happy to produce a mid-engined RWD car so we have to hold on to the ones we've got :D

It seems I'm the only one who's more interested in the driver behind the wheel than the car itself :p :

However it seems the avensis is the exception, i've been overtaken many times in stupid places by somebody in an Avensis.

Name another automaker that has a war named after it ;)

Toyotas are cool because they last forever

I thought Toyo stopped making the MR2 a couple of years ago.

But now, could I interest you in a Pontiac Solstice? :D

If you drove a Ford Exploder you would be afraid to go as fast as the speed limit.

What puzzles me is why such a nice car as a BMW does not come equipped with turn signals. Especially the ones with Diplomatic plates.

.

?????
If you drove a black Ford Escort, you could go 85 plus mph everwhere and never get a ticket...I know and did that over and over again, right past cops who would immediately turn on their reds and stop any sporty or semi-sporty (Camaro and whatever)or anyone else but me, that they could find anywhere.. :D ....

made the mistake of trading that sweet, gas leaking, exhasaut leaking, suicide rat trap on a brand new Honda, and nearly had my license gone within about two weeks from all the tickets

Toyota's seem to be the perfect car for people who don't like cars. Hence their doddy behaviour on the road. The worst vehicle offenders for clogging up the slow lane ( which is an issue for me when I am rolling down the road in my rig ) are often Toyota's...or ancient Ford Tempo's..... Never been held up by some punk in a Honda with a Big coffee can exhaust though. He is the guy who swings over from the hammer lane to the granny lane right across my bow with 100 yards before the ramp where he wants to get off. When one is rolling with 40000 lbs of freight in the box, this is NOT a comforting sight when you are on the brakes hoping like hell he keeps moving!!!

You sound like the Queen :D

When one is rolling in ones rig with ones box full of ones cargo one does not feel it is comforting when one sees a car move suddenly across ones bow :p

I'm sorry but you appear to have confused "cool" with "bland" :mark:

Toyota has made what I'd consider to be some rather cool cars in the past. But I can't think of any that are still in production. I believe the FJ40 is now out of production, or soon will be - it was funky, if not cool. The Celica (GTS and GT-4/All-Trac) was a cool car, until Toyota turned it into a total "secretary car" with the last generation. The Supra was definitely something else, especially the last generation. And the MR2 was quite the little sports car. Maybe one is slipping my mind, but I can't think of any (truly) cool Toyota models that are still in production.

When I think of Toyota, I think of very well made, well engineered, utilitarian automobiles. For the U.S. market, I think if you could mate Chrysler's edgy designs with Toyota's engineering and manufacturing processes, you'd have a monster.

They did, but they are still the only large maunfacturer over here who have produced anything like the MR2 in the last 20 years. It was a genuine attempt to bring the ideas of Ferrari et al into an 'affordable' car.

Don't get me wrong. I think the MR2 is a great little car. When I was looking for a project car to do some SCCA Solo and Club racing, I looked very hard at getting an MR2 Mk2 (my personal favorite). I ended up with an RX-7 mainly because I got such a good deal on one.

But when Toyota killed the MR2, that was another nail in the coffin for car guys who might look to Toyota for a (new) sporty car. Where once we had the Celica GTS and GT4/All-trac, the Supra and the MR2, now we have... basically nothing. They were working on some sort of sporty car with Subaru (the 086A) that was due to hit the market in 2012. It had been delayed and I don't know where that stands now that the global economy has gone totally to hell. But it just seems weird that a company that's raced at Le Mans and been in F1 and CART over the past decade and a half doesn't make anything that passes for a performance car now.
