I have eaten in some fantastic places in Canada the US and the UK so picking one is impossible. Also many dumps.
Best racetrack food Road America, Elkhart Lake, Wisc.
If you are ever to Mosport the Captains Rest. at the Kawartha Lakes Inn (a motel) in Lindsay has great food but little atmosphere and service can be spotty. Not much of a wine list but the food makes up for it. Jambalya to die for.
Best wine and liquor store Premier Liquors in Tonawanda, NY. Huge and great prices.
Actually probably the best Resturant I ate in is long gone. That was the Ascona Place in Gravenhurst On. The food was incredible and a fantastic wine list. Owner and chef lured away to Calif.

Gus's Fried Chicken in Mason, TN, USA. Trust me, you have never tasted anything like it, and words don't do it justice. I has been featured in Vogue and GQ. Sometimes, a selection like that may be just a fad or something hip to write about, but in this case it is truly something unique and different.

http://www.gussofms.com/history.html

http://www.gussofms.com/images/3-piece-plus-sides.jpgIn a downtown tavern in Mason, Tennessee, with a population of about 500, is where a man by the name of Napoleon Vanderbilt (also known as Na in the community), started his experimenting.
In 1953, "Na" open the doors to his eatery. The food became so popular that blacks and whites alike came from all over to purchase a sack of chicken. As the demand for Na's chicken continued to grow, he was encouraged to build a new restaurant on Hwy 70, Mason, Tennessee. Na & his wife Maggie were of humble means so members of the community provided the building materials for them. As Na was a carpenter by trade he built the restaurant himself in 1973.
The restaurant was named after his wife, Maggie (Maggie's Short Orders). They ran a successful business for 30 years. In January of 1983 Maggie died and Na died in August of that same year.
Na had only one child by the name Vernon "Gus" Bonner. Vernon inherited the recipe and the property. In 1984, Vernon and his wife Gertrude reopened the business under the name "Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken." Many wondered, "Why that name?" Vernon's youngest daughter, Tonya Bonner-Holder thought that it would be a catchy name since Vernon carried the name "Gus Bully" from childhood.
The food was still great even though Na and Maggie were gone. Vernon and Gertrude perfected the recipe and by word of mouth their business continued to grow so well that GQ magazine featured it in their January 2001 issue and rated it one of the top five (restaurants) in the United States worth flying to have a meal.

My wife makes a great chicken curry. If in Hong Kong, the Mozart Stuben in Glenealy (Just below Cain Road) is really great. Also Jimmy's Kitchen which is world famous - has been famous for many, many decades.

I forgot - you have to book well ahead for the above; two weeks in advance is the norm for the two places above, maybe even longer for Mozart Stuben. http://www.mozartstubn.com/eng.php

Great spot on the outskirts of Bogota called Andres Carne Y Res.

When the Concorde was flying, it also served great food.

In the Lake Drisitrict I love a pub called the Mason's Arms. The food is great and it also has a 7 page beer menu. :D I'm currently in the process of trying to get my other half to take me to a restaurant in Yorkshire called The Box Tree. It has a michelin star and a very reasonable priced Sunday lunch menu. :lips: :D

A few of my favourite places

Siam Teppanyaki in Chester
http://www.siam-teppanyaki.co.uk/?Go=Menu
It's a reccomended restaurant on the gourmet Britain website
http://www.gourmetbritain.com/restaurants_entry.php?item=2131
I love the Teppanyaki, it's relatively cheap for what you get, very tasty and you get the show of having your meal cooked right in front of you with flames and so on. They also have a Thai restaurant upstairs and even though I'm not a huge fan of Thai food I really loved the Thai green curry I had.

My next favourite places is the Queens Head pub in Glanwydden which is also reccomended by Gourmet Britain. They serve lots of traditional British stuff which is mostly made of local ingredients and is just extremely tasty :)

The only other place I could really reccomend is Ravintola Koto in Helsinki which is a rather nice Japanese restaurant. Perhaps you could take the wife there if she likes Japanese food AFF :)

Another of my favourites is a place in Perth called Taka's Kitchen which was isn't really much of a restaurant but more of a drop in and eat sort of place but they did the best chicken teriyaki I've ever had and I went back 2 times when I was back in Perth just for that.

The Bistro restaurant in the Esplendido Hotel in Port De Soller Majorca has delicious food. If you saty on the North of the Island the drive over the mountains from Pollensa is spectacular.

Been to Port de Soller and ate at a resaurant, don't think it was that one tho!

Absolutely! Pity the road was closed due to a rock fall last time I was there. But still drove south-west from Soller along the coast.

Anybody ever eat at any of the seafront restaurants along the boardwalk at Schvenigan, Holland? Its the coolest place I've ever seen, and the food and drink are OK too.

Whenever in Dublin, we always visit Yamamoris a really laid back Japanese restaurant with the healthiest menu Ive ever tried.

Darn I am getting hungry.
I keep thinking of great meals but rarely can remember the name of the restuarant.
Great real (not Tex Mex) Mexican place in Superior Wisc. of all places. A little hole in the wall but great food.
Fantastic crab in Port Hardy, Vancouver Island at the northern tip. Just off the crab boat a hour.
A place on Military Trail just outside of Buffalo. Darned if I can remember the name. Ate there several times. Great food. Parking lot full of Porsche, big Bimmers, Ferrari etc. However, very definitely a mob joint! Pink neon sign even!
There is a Dim Sum place at Finch and Kennedy in Scarborough (Toronto) in a plaza (NE corner) that is great. Have been the only non orientals in the place several times and you always have to wait for a table. Seats over 300! Some of my Chinese friends say it is as good as any place in Hong Kong. Better know how to use chopsticks and the staff do not speak English.

Can't remember any names but some of the best restaurants I've experience are in:
Montreal
Paris (well, just about anywhere in France)
San Fransisco
Hong Kong

@ Daniel, I know that Japanese place but I have never visited there. Neither of us, me and my wife, don't like Japanese food. My wife like Chinese food very much. I like Jaskan Special very much :)

I have to agree with Paris. All the restaurants in which we ate were really good. And also, in Spain, Mijas Costa, a restaurant which was a family place, surprisingly the best lasagne I've ever eaten

Unfortunately I can't remember the names ...

I promise you this folks. I'm gonna start paying attention and taking up the names of great restaurants from now on.

There is a chicken restaurant in Berlin called Henne that I absolutely adore. Unfortunately the name of the outstanding Indonesian establishment in Amsterdam that I frequent when I'm there escapes me.

Camelopard

This is close to the top of my list, L'Houstalet in Port Vila, Vanuatu, mind you I didn't have the flying fox, French influenced food.

In Canberra it has to be The Ottoman, they started off as a small family run Turkish cafe to become a constantly award winning Turkish inspired restaurant.

In Sydney my favourite is Blue Ginger in Balmain which is Asian inspired.

There is one close to the Camping ground there at the top of the hill behind the square, and another near the entrance to the camping ground.
