Neste Oil Rally Finland 2009's rally guide 1 will be published tomorrow Friday 27th. However - they sent out a newsletter yesterday with a write-up of this year's route.
It looks good, at least. 23 special stages altogether with little less than 350 ss-kilometres. One third of the route is different compared to 2008.
Perhaps the most notable change is that the famous Ouninpohja stage won't be used this year in any form (last year it was shortened and called Kakaristo). This was rumoured some weeks ago in a local daily newspaper, and it was mentioned that the lack of volunteers led to this decision. I don't blame them. Also Vellipohja, Juupajoki and Kaipolanvuori are missing from this year's route.
2009 will see the return of Myhinpää, a famous rollercoaster-of-a-stage from the history. What I don't know is it only the stage name or will it be the same road. However, here's a video of Loeb testing C4 in Myhinpää (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YDnSE7DT3uQ) in 2007. If it's that road, it surely looks great! Completely new stage on Saturday is Kavala.
These are the stages:
Thursday Jul 30th
Killeri 1
Friday Jul 31st
Jukojärvi 1/2
Kruununperä 1/2
Mökkiperä 1/2
Palsankylä 1/2
Killeri 2
Saturday Aug 1st
Leustu
Himos
Surkee
Urria
Kavala
Väärinmaja
(three of the stages will be ran twice, I don't know which three)
Sunday Aug 2nd
Hannula
Myhinpää 1/2
Ruuhimäki
