Anyone know what percentage of the world's population is any of the below?

Left handed.
Red haired.
Gay/Lesbian.
Brown eyed, white skinned.
Ladies US size 6 and smaller.
Etc, etc.

Few days ago I was with a left handed man, a lesbian woman and (obviously) myself, a red head. We were wondering which of us is the rarest? :p :

I remember reading years ago that there are about 5% left handed people in the world, and that they are less common than gay people. Somebody else said fewer than 4% of the earth's population is red headed. Anybody know how true those figures could be?

Are you an Irish one-legged, green eyed rarity yourself? :p :

I speak Finnish. Less than 0.1% of the world population speak Finnish. I also have an extra tooth on my upper jaw. Another extra tooth was trying to grow from my lower jaw too, but it had not enough room so a dentist pulled it away.

Apparently 10-40% of the South American and Chinese people have extra teeth but only 0.01-0.09% of the western and northern people:

Here's another one:

What proportion of men reading this thread got as far as Hazell saying she spent the other day with a lesbian and kind of drifted off? :p :

This is what my short research found:

Left handed.
"Whilst the figure is virtually impossible to attain, the likelyhood of the worldwide popluation exhibiting left handedness lies somewhere in the order of between 7-10%."
Raymond, M.; Pontier, D.; Dufour, A.; and Pape, M. (1996). Frequency-dependent maintenance of left-handedness in humans", Proceedings of the Royal Society of London

Red haired.
Probably between 1-2%

Gay/Lesbian.
Assuming Australia is a represenatative sample then it's 0.47% of the population who are prepared to report it.

Etc, etc.

I think that it's probably that in order of rarity it's: Gay, Red-Haired, Left-handed.
Left-Handedness is determined by a co-dominant gene, Red-Haired is by a recessive gene, Gayness is probably determined by a range of factors that are too numerous to quantify left alone produce an empirical study for.

.....Few days ago I was with a left handed man, a lesbian woman......
Well lets see now...

A man who is left handed..........maybe 5-10%
A lesbian who is a woman..........probably close to 100%

Left handed man wins.

Less than one in 200 is miles out, looking at my friends and the general public. Then again, well over half don't exactly advertise their sexual orientation (understandably) and I'm of an age that attracts friends who're happy with who they are so don't mind me knowing that they don't just see 'cottage' as a pretty little country house :p :

Red-Haired is by a recessive gene ....

I'm recessive?
So that's my excuse from now on :D

As the self proclaimed forum lesbian expert I can say with certainty that it is possible to be an ugly lesbian.

I think his idea of lesbians has been warped by 'gay-for pay' lesbians from internet porn sites...........
