We do this 'sim' thing because, in reality, we would like to be out there with the Loeb's, Raikonnen's, and Rossi's of the real world competing for the top step of the podium.

What if you could incorporate your sim gaming into a real race of the WRC, F1, or MotoGP championship?

Turns out the little gem of a game I have for my PS2, SBK07 nearly goes as far.

I am able to set up a full race (22 laps) which precisely corresponds with the race distance of that round of the 2009 WSBK championship. I did a practice session this morning and my fastest lap of 1:32.00 was a tad shorter than Troy Bayliss' record of 2006 (1:31.92) and half a click faster than Max Biaggi at a recent practice session (1:32.5xx).

I am going to run a full distance race and post my results here on the forum as compared with the actual WSBK grid.

I'm being good and honest. There is ample opportunit to set up a cheater bike with many driver aids, but brakes are at only 100% (in lieu of 125 or 150), traction control partial (full seems a cheat to me although I think most superbikes have it), and while I have to turn off some things like driver inertia (I simply can't do that) I feel I have a pretty legit, honest entry.

I'll post my results as well as results from the actual race here. Cheer (or jeer) me on as you see fit....

Only yesterday was I thinking how cool it would be to race under the real racing conditions of a certain race in history. The very first F1 game for PS1 (based on the 1995 season) included the substitute drivers of that year. And, presuming you didn't select a substitute driver yourself, these subs would be racing at the events they competed in the real 95 season. Also, after 6 rounds or so, presuming you didn't choose to drive for Simtek, the grid would go from 26 to 24 cars as Simtek dropped out (they withdrew about this point in the 95 season due to lack of sponsorship of financial matters of some sort.)

I thought that feature was class, especially for one of the first games on PS. However, I've never come across a game where the actual timing, retirements and finishing positions model that of the real life event. That would be interesting, to see how you compare. But if it was not just an optional extra, races would become very monotonous as you could well imagine.

Best of luck on the bike tannat

Fabrizio snagged a 1:32.19 today in practice on his Ducati, and I feel there is every reason to believe times will drop into the 1:31.xx next weekend.

By the by I'm racing as Haga on the Yamaha. It isn't rated as the best bike in the game, but is far from the worst as well................

I'll keep you updated

Bit of a washout-my 34:13.74 nearly 10 seconds ahead of Noriyuki Haga's 34:22.631, with it being a bit tighter in race two to Ben Spies 34:20.457.

My first lap was RELLY rocky, and dropped to third until the start/finish line.

Lap two was my fastest 1:30.50 !! Never dropped into the 1:30's for the rest of the race. I think other than kicking out a really good lap I also got a tow on lap 1.

Lapped for the most part in the 1:31-1:32 range with a cuple of 1:35, 1:36 when I made a mistake

I chose medium compounds. Perhaps if I went with hard the field would be more level.

This track I like, but there are others where I am not so good.

Had a quick look at Qatar (next round) where my second lap was 2 seconds fatster than last years quickest Q time. This time was set on one of the better bike's available in the game. I think I am going to choose the absolute worst bike for this race, choose hard tires and see what that yields.

If you are reading I'll see you in 1.5 weeks....
