Sponsor wise it wont be ING as has been reported elsewhere.

Just like countryman "Jos the Boss", Bobby D "Rob the Knob" and his mates keep sprouting false information.

To date, they have not delivered the money they promised...so unless the check comes in later today, there will be no announcement.

I choked on my coffee when I read this..nice job.

I have sine heard that this deal is "thisclose" to being done. There are now plans in place for the team to make the annoucement in regards to this year.

Bobby D should be at the test at Homestead, and should do well with the team.

I do not want to spoil premium material from AR1 but it is being reported elsewhere too that the deal may be OFF. Sponsorship issues surrounding ING and Harry Muermanns have arisen. Possibly NHL racing lost another sponsor and upped the funds required. Either way the rumor is no longer strong but "Speculation" at best.

Once again, they got the driver's manager Louis Varossieau to talk. Through the magic of Google Translate, he states:

"The contract is also not yet signed, but within three weeks, we will announce what Robert will do this season."
This can mean a couple of things. For one, perhaps Doornbos' relationship with big banker ING (http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/72572) may not be yielding as much sponsorship money for him due to the world financial crisis.

Thank you! ;)

My question is this- If a third car is going to be financed with "Duno Dollars", and Doornbos is bringing nothing (so it seems at this time), why not just keep Wilson, (a driver they have a year of experience with) in the car?

This deal was about to happen but in the past 24 hours this went from a done deal, to a deal that might be done.

I think that if the money from both parties does not materialize, they could put Wilson back in a car. That would be the popular and deserving thing to do, but with money being tight, a last minute deal could still change things.

This one is not over yet.

The article at that link is over a month old -- hardly late breaking news.

Say what you will, but it is now the 20th and the big announcement of the 18th has long past and no word of when if ever it will be made - I smell a problem.

This is great news, and hopefully Bobby D can get up to speed quickly on he ovals. He did a great job in '07 and hopefully can do well here.

Doornbos will be a teammate of Graham Rahal, who won the Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg in his IndyCar Series debut last April.

Notice the lack of mention of Milka? Hmmmmmm...

Well, I'll say this for what it's worth to you. RD is very good! He reminds me of a young Paul Tracy.

A team would have been smart to put them both together.

Tragic, if PT isn't signed on this year in open wheel...

"Details of the sponsorship will be announced at a later date."

This is also interesting. I thought all of this was hinging on RD bringing sponsorship money and now he's announced, but the sponsor isn't revealed.

I'm glad he's coming. It's a shame that it's looking like PT,JW,OS and RHR are without rides. Combine that with Helio's future looking shaky and that's a serious depletion of driving talent. It would be nice to see Robert on the track with these guys.

The way things are today I can see why PT isn't signed unless he can bring sponsorship money.
However TG should really be trying to get him into the series. Love him or hate him, win, lose or crash he is a big draw. His name is probably the best known next to the Princess and his antics create excitement.
At most tracks he would put more bums in seats and attract a bigger TV audience just to see what he is apt to do.
Besides can you just see Danica going after PT.

NHL has three cars entered for the test a Homestead. Doornbos, Rahal and TBA. You do the math.

Maybe the idea of their cars circling the track with big ol' Hugo Chavez, eh-em, I mean Citgo logos is starting to sink in over at NHL. I won't root for them if I see a Citgo logo anywhere.

Or maybe Hugo doesn't like $39.00 a barrel oil thanks to low demand in his most hated nation and is pulling the plug on the deal.
