my old pc is getting a bit past it and i'm thinking of buying a new one,i don't need a top of the range one just one suited for a bit of light use, surfing net, downloading music, printing photos etc.
How much ram and hard disk space (GB?) will i need?
Also is there anything else i need to know because as you can probably guess i'm no computer expert!

Well you'll struggle to find anything with less than 250gb of hard drive space these days. Ram is quite cheap so you'll be able to get 2gb for not much :)

If I may ask what is your budget? :)

if its for a desktop then if you shop around you can definitely find a good PC for £400

are you looking for a full package? (monitor etc...) I thing you can get a dual core PC with 2GB RAM, 300GB HD and a 19-20" monitor

if you dont need a monitor then for £400 you could probably find a quad core, 4GB RAM, 1TB HD PC

Good advice. Though a quad core PC with 4gb of RAM and a 1tb hard drive would be overkill for sure :)

I've spoken to a few people who offered to build me a PC to my own spec's with 19" monitor for £350, so you should maybe try that route.

With the way prices are going now you could probably knock another £50 off that and still have a PC.

Just remember that if you buy a DELL, the free technical support only lasts for the duration of your warranty. After that, you are directed to Gizmo, where you have to pay for technical support. I don't know about the others.

See spec below, unless you plan on being a serious gamer then this should fit your needs nicely.

2.5Gig dual core processor (Pentium)
2 Gig OCZ DDR2 RAM
250 Gig SATA Hard Drive
19" Monitor (only 1440x900 resolution though)
Lowish end 3D graphics card for some gaming, but the lowish resolution of the screen will help there if you run most stuff at medium settings in game.
