His wife Nina Mikkonen is ranked as a housewife. In my opinion these two people need each others because there are no-one else on this earth who can stand them. My blood is boiling from that videoclip. Being at home with small children isn’t self-evident in current world. Hands up who have been in daycare when you were kids ?? I don't know how things are in US but here in Finland you get to have 9 months of maternity leave. Then, after that you can have nursing leave up to three years but the financial support is much weaker. For this reason mothers put their children to daycare, some even at the age on 1 year.

I aldready see a cultural conflict here as I know in US many mothers are home and dad brings the money to table. Part of the famous family values?

Anyway, it doesn't work here. Families very rarely just can't keep their children at home and the reason is purely financial.

The point however isn't that at all. IMO (and my opinion only) the standard of Finnish daycare is very high. Nina Mikkonen is ranting and raving a blame to all those mothers who "selfisly" choose the career over their children and refuse to see that fact it's many families only option. I see a huge difference with those children who have stayed at home and with those who have been in daycare in my work. And let me say just one fact, those in daycare have way better social skills already than those who have been raised in mom's lap.

I have no idea who these people are...but I can agree in an ideal world you should have a parent at home to look after the kids. That said, Finland and many other nations, mine included have a tax burden and a cost of living burden that pretty much dictate a real difficulty for families keeping one parent at home. Usually this is the woman for traditional and financial reasons but that is immaterial. Daycare is a necessary evil. For anyone to say it is WRONG is a bit out of line. Ideally tho...this wacky woman isn't wrong but she isn't living in the real world either.

As for the US vs any other place, lots of working moms in that country too...

Daycare centers, or kindergartens in Finland aren't run by the state. They're either municipal services or runned by private factor. Both provide very good services but usually private daycare centers have better resources and therefore even better services.

I wonder why you don't act like this on WRC forum but I guess you have your reasons. I wasn't saying children are better off being raised by the state. I was saying that IN MY OPINION it is better for a child to be in daycare center than being raised in home. Again IN MY OPINION I've noticed few things children may face during their childhood if they spend it in homecare. Althought they might have long days at daycare center, they don't spend there 24/7. They're not being brainwashed by the goverment. I have been talking about daycare in general but there are also kindergartens that provides services in different contexts. IMO not all of them are better than daycare in general but they seem to be highly popular.

I guess one of my points is that moms who choose to put their children in daycare aren't IN MY OPINION worse than mothers who have the chance to stay home with their children. Their children aren't any less loved than those who stay home.
