Already have it with basic/extended Comcast in NJ. I might have gone for a different, slightly more expensive package if I didn't have it, but probably wouldn't switch over to a new service like a sat.

I get VERSUS HD, which is fortunate when the Bruins are on that channel. I don't make the calls as far as TV goes, my parents do (I'm 15), but I'd probably say if we didn't have VERSUS, we would probably try to get it, at least in SD, if it was available, but would not switch providers for it. Then again, after the commentators were announced I don't think it's worth the extra money ;)

VS. is on basic Comcast cable for me, and I"m suprised if it isn't for all Comcast customers since Comcst owns VS.
At least here, there is no extra charge for HD service on Comcast.
Vs, ESPN and now Speed, all in HD, standard basic digital cable.

Sometime over the past week Versus has appeared on my programming list on channel 151 with SPEED on 150. I hope it stays as I won't pay extra to get it.

It seems that IRL have shot themselves in the foot, signing a deal with a TV station that has limited uptake with cable companies. From what I can gather cable / satellite in the US is quite fragmented with different systems available in different places, making the conundrum more complex than it is over here in the UK, though in places there is the same issue of upgrades to get IRL coverage.
In the UK we have a single cable operator - Virgin Media (which is the result of merger after merger of small regional cable companies until there was finally just one big one) and a single satellite provider - Sky (complete with thier superb TIVO killing Sky+ and Sky+HD services) and digital free to air TV through Freeview with additional subscription service Top Up TV. IRL airs on Sky Sports which is a premium subcription service, though Sky Sports also air NASCAR Sprint Cup too, which softens the blow of paying the extra subcription. This is available across cable and satellite but not currently through Top Up TV, so all in all viewers in Britain could find themselves in a better position to watch Indycar than our friends on the other side of the atlantic, which strikes me as very slightly insane, with it being a domestic series in the US that has yet to visit out shores in it's modern guise.

i don't know about that. Sky tape delayed a lot of IRL races last season in favour of showing nascar live. which pissed me off. I do watch the cup races as well but would much prefer to see IndyCar live over NASCAR.
Does anyone know if Sky will be showing IndyCar races in HD this year? I got my HD box installed yesterday so hoping they do. I know they are showing some (but not all) cup races in HD.

The only people complaining in the US are those who don't have Versus.
Versus is owned by Comcast, which is one of the largest companies in the US. The actual number of households with Versus is very close to the number with ESPN and its "offspring". Some people who got ESPN didn't have Versus, but the cable lineups change regularly and Versus is showing up on more systems. The IRL was moved to ESPN Classic a few times, which many people don't have or can't find, as it isn't called ESPN Classic in many cable guides.
Many think that the move is a good one as Versus has incentive to do a good job, while ABC / ESPN often treated the IRL as filler.

I remember last season they were boasting about showing the Indy 500 in HD, so possibly, they also show the NASCAR races in HD I believe and they definately show A1GP in HD. I'm wanting to know if the BBC are going to show F1 in HD, because if they are i'll have HD installed in a flash.
