Verizon is sponsoring Justin Allgaier in the Nationwide series for Penske, and rumor is the Cup car will be painted in the same colors a la the Marlboro colored cars in Indycar(i. e. the car will have the Verizon color scheme, but no logo or name because that wouldn't be permitted per the Sprint agreement)

Seeing how AT&T was allowed to have logos after the Cingular acquisition Verizon should have trhe same right for the final year of the contract. Being thata past practice has been established, I'm rather surprised Verizon isn't following this route.

I do have to say the Allgaier Nationwide car is a fantastic looking machine.

It was a two year Cingular deal (and maybe some option years) that was traded for a final AT&T year, and they had to go to court (suing both Nascar & Nextel) to get it. Verizon may think what they're going with is almost as good and a lot easier/cheaper.

Verizon wasn't the company grandfathered into the current deal with Nextel/Sprint. Alltel colours and logos would be fine for this year as that sponsorship was to go away at the end of 2009. When Alltel was swallowed up by Verizon, they could run Alltel colours and logo's but they cannot NOT put their name on the car.

This is because Nextel/Sprint are paying a HUGE wack of money for exclusivity rights and NASCAR's crediblity would be shot in the next negotiations for a series sponsor if NASCAR didn't enforce that exclusivity. Doing something nice for Verizon and Penske wouldn't pay off for the series as a whole when a replacement contract for the current one with Nextel/Spring would be on the line.

thats true, becouse remember it still took At&t quite a wile to get to be abel to put their logos on the 31 car, verizan may not think its worth it for the final year of their contract

Just curious, but does it matter? Do some of you have a personal involvement with these companies? If you do, fair enough - if you are just worried about the words and colours on the pretty cars, relax, enjoy the racing.

I think Verizon could put their logos on the racecar IF ...
they promoted their high-speed internet and/or ...
their digital TV connections. :D
