Well folks, here we are again. The championship organisers, teams and riders have been working hard and in just over six weeks the action gets going, so it's time for the Fantasy League Official Launch.

----

Format is the same as the previous years:

MotoGP, 250cc, 125cc, World Superbikes, World Supersport[/*:m:1yqvuqjp]
Budget of $10M, riders have fixed prices and scores points as in real life[/*:m:1yqvuqjp]
Pick seven riders, with at least one from each of the five classes[/*:m:1yqvuqjp]
Two transfer periods during the season to change your riders, but you can only make three changes at each transfer period.[/*:m:1yqvuqjp]
Think up a suitably amusing team name[/*:m:1yqvuqjp]The season starts on March 1st with World Superbikes & Supersport at Phillip Island and your full teams (inc MotoGP, 250cc, 125cc) need to be posted here by Feb 26th.

----

The full spreadsheet with prices, rules and how the season looks (i.e where the transfer periods are) is up here:

http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=pyHeGYKZhlb6_HGL1N6XAGQhttp://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=pyHeGYKZhlb6wOJhKNkiNIg

I'll also post the prices below.

----

It was suggested last year that we have a thread for the results/standings, and then a separate 'banter board', both of which would be sticky at the top of the forum. Any thoughts on that?

Cheers, had copied and edited last year's, and Team Hangover has been in action so I made a small blunder (left Kenan off as well!).

Now sorted!

Glad that the new competition will be commenced again, Thanks for managing the game. The rules seem to be fine.

Just my two cent, Unless riders' pricing were already finalized, it looks like Max Biaggi is priced slightly high? Perhaps he shouldn't have price at any higher place than Neukirchner and Corser, besides he will ride bike totally new in the series, we might need to refer to last year's result (http://www.motorsport.com/news/article.asp?ID=313343)...

Is it just me or does this appear to be getting harder every year. So many 'value' bets in WSB and WSS as well as the perenially difficult 125's. I'm so looking forward to this season, for this competition as much as the racing. Well, must be off now. Time to negotiate some contracts!

It's probably getting harder cos I'm hopefully getting better at doing the prices! At the end of last year I did a run down of the standings versus the prices (here: http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?k...NcOl3eAw&gid=0 (http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=pyHeGYKZhlb7TyhNcOl3eAw&gid=0) ) and aside from the 125s there weren't many that far off (Melandri and Sofuoglu being the main ones).

A few times in years gone by there were a few 'gimmes' like Stoner at 1.5$m in 2007, but less so last year.

The trick is of course to get the balance of your team right for each section of the season (number of WSB events vs MotoGP), whilst also covering for anyone getting injured/not performing etc.

Team eXtreme is hoping for an improved season following last seasons disaster. The Revamped Team is hoping for a much more dedication this time around. The Team has had a lot of trouble finding sponsers and as a result Harsha, the Team Owner, has faced a lot of flak from the fans.

However, the team remains confident of bettering last year's performance and is holding talks with a top modelling firm for sponsership and gridgirls too :p :

Team Ausino Re-launched.

Team president Maxu05 has stated that in 2009, there will be significant changes both to the line up and the running of Team Ausino.

Gone is the loyalty to riders and engineers. This year, the team principal is expecting results. This will mean combining a mixture of experience, with raw talent within the teams lineup. If a rider does not perform this year, he will be given his marching orders when changes to the team are permitted. Brand loyalty will also be a thing of the past, as Team Ausino strives to be at the top of the tally as the season reaches it's peak. The team will be as follows.

MotoGp
1) Colin Edwards ........$1.25 m
2) Marco Melandri .........$1.25 m

Another year, another name and sponsor change. In the mold of Michael Jordan running a Suzuki team in the AMA, we've also landed a high profile ex-sporting superstar to sponsor our team. After being knocked back by Magic Johnson, Greg Norman, Lennox Lewis and Pele, we are delighted to have landed probably a bigger name sportsman than all of them combined. So without further adieu, I would like to announce the launch of:

Dunder Mifflin Racing Press Release
http://www.smugmug.com/photos/195273191-O.jpg
Reynholm Industries Racing shocked the racing world when they announced they would be pulling out of the Motorsport Forums Fantasy Racing Championship. Much like Kawasaki Racing, the reason causing this team to exit this prestigious championship was due to the ever increasing world economical crisis.

But there is still light at the end of the tunnel. Dunder Mifflin Inc, a major paper supplying company in the US, has announced they will buy out the financially crippled team. The team will be based in Scranton, a small town in the US, and will be managed by Michael Scott.

The team has also announced the rider line up for the year which is as follows:
MotoGP
Andrea Dovizioso 1.75
250cc
Thomas Luthi 1.25
125cc
Nico Terol 1.25
WSB
Max Neukirchner 2.25
Troy Corser 2.0
Matteo Baiocco 0.5
WSS
Joan Lascorz 1.0

Total: 10 Mil

In a brief interview, Mr. Scott said Dunder Mifflin was looking forward to the season and expecting the contracted riders to be "goin' mach five" at every race meet.

Team NoBlouse Finally Announces 2009 Rider Line-up

Having exhausted all avenues of creative rulebook interpretation over the past two seasons, Team NoBlouse has opted for a rider line-up using some of our tried and tested riders. Even though some of their results in the past have tried our Chief Mechanic and sorely tested our patience.

As usual, Antipodean riders feature strongly in the line-up, and this year some of them might even like to turn in a few points each round. The team has been forced, like many, to address budgetary concerns, and accordingly we have halved the pit/garage crew and doubled the brolly babe count.

Yesterday Team Principal Humperdink Blofart spoke exclusively to MCN.com at a hastily convened press conference: "Christ almighty you guys, I have never read so much crap in all my life. Do you ever get new bike rumours correct? That 1000cc V5 VFR you idiots came up with last year had me going for a while there, but yet again it was a pile of horse____, do me a favour, just TEST BIKES and gear, ok? Sack the com-gen guy and quit publishing so many bull____ articles about upcoming models".

Marco Melandri has been retained by Team NoBlouse as a 'fixer' in order to strengthen Casey Stoner's hand in the psy-ops battle with Valentino Rossi. Melandri will work behind the scenes at each round to destabilise the Rossi fan club and steal all Rossi merchandise, which will be donated to charities in South East Asia by Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman during their next epic ride "Love You Long Way" (currently in pre-production under the working title "GS too big! GS too big!").

Keep 'em coming folks - as long as they're posted up here before practice gets underway at the Island it's all good.

The first set of points may be a little slow in coming cos there's a bit of spreadsheeting to do and another big championship opens this weekend - my karting season! So I've got a couple of 250-mile trips Fri/Sat which get in the way. But I foresee them being done within a couple of days of the races.

I spent a couple of hours last night sorting the all Pickems for MotoGP and GP2 though, so they're pretty much ready to run when the seasons get going in several weeks time.

Everyone may outpace riconciliazione project position easier in the next race.
Being the third with a rider whose plate number is the same, coincidence again... is quite good result, as the team was shaped to introduce friendship mission rather than the performance itself. However the team owner would never be tired of telling the riders to keep up the pace and pick up the gauntlet.

No, it's correct.

Corser got 8 points at Phillip Island, Fabrizio got 24. At the weekend Corser got 14 points and Fabrizio got nothing. Your bro has 8 points listed for that spot (under Fabrizio's name due to the way the spreadsheet works) since I did a tweak to take account of the change, so it's correct.

Hmmm.

Was having a check of the test times t'other day, and obviously having a quick look through for my riders...

Toni Elias...check

Scott Redding...check
Andrea Iannone...check

Aleix Espargaro....er.....

And as it turns out, he's dropped off the entry lists between the January provisional list and the current list - as have a few others [and there've been others added].

So it may be time for a slight rule amendment regarding this gap between the start of the WSB season and the start of the MotoGP season. It's an unavoidable situation that you have to put in a complete team before the WSB season starts, because you have a budget to work to for all classes. But of course, in that time the MotoGP entry lists may change or people may get injured as has happened to Dani. But since the MotoGP season hasn't started, in theory you can jiggle about with your team for that bit since things aren't off and running (once your WSB squad is set and the season begins, that's that - as it is once MotoGP reaches round one time).

So I am implementing - with immediate effect - the following amendment to the rules:

"World SBK begins on March 1st. Complete teams (I.e inc your MotoGP riders) should be submitted by Feb 26th to score points for that round.

If submitted later they will still score but only from that point onwards and not in retrospect.
Once the WSB season begins, those riders are fixed until the first transfer point barring exceptional circumstances. The MotoGP/250/125 riders may still be changed until that season begins, and are then also fixed until the first transfer point."

So that should help out anyone who picks a rider who then before the season starts has been bumped off the grid for whatever reason [like me with my team, obviously! :p ] having to avoid going a third of the season without a rider.

-------

With this in mind, I'm swapping Aleix Espargaro (no longer riding) for Ratthapark Wilarot. Corny's the only other team with a rider selected who's now not competing (Toni Wirsing, bargain basement 250cc selection), which you're welcome to change - and indeed anyone else wanting to edit their GP selections only can do so before we get underway next weekend.

The team that's leading, incidentally, is a satellite team that myself and my mum picked jointly (I know some of you think that my mum's team - Fest Racing - is a satellite team picked by me, but it really isn't - her deliberations with the price list are lengthy!). It's also the only team currently with Ben Spies, and also has Leon Haslam hence the high WSB total.

Some of the teams near the bottom have truly shocking WSB lineups! (Phantom, Neninja - the last two years' champions - I'm looking at you)

Yeah, I try to go with Aussies and I thought Parkes might have an ok season if Kawasaki put a little more focus on their WSB efforts, after bailing out of MotoGP. Bad move.

But I'm making up one place per round so far, if Bautista and Vermeulen step up to the plate (both have been underperforming so far) I might do a little better. Redding too needs to get with the program.

Hopefully it will return tomorrow with no problems, but it has my League spreadsheet on it and I've been silly and not backed it up. So if something goes majorly wrong it may take a while to retrieve/re-do it - just thought I'd give a quick heads-up.

Afraid problems are persisting with the computer containing my spreadsheet - so the League won't be updated until it returns unfortunately.

(apparently there's various viruses on it - I was given the usual computer shop line of "you're a complete idiot and your computer's full of bad stuff" despite having had no problems with it in three years, although was shown a bad thing which I didn't even know existed and is a web browser hijacker which redirects malware-blocking website adddresses to a virus website! I am, however, an idiot for not backing all my stuff up - three years' worth of photos plus about 25GB of music which although it's CDs I own will take an eternity to reimport to iTunes if I need to do it. However I don't believe it'll come to reformatting it

Pat, this has probably been covered - if a rider is out and a substitute is in place, we wear the results of the sub, yes?

Afraid not - so those of you with Casey had better change him.

As it happens, Kallio didn't score anyway after a surprisingly silly move (or failing to see Melandri, one of those). Those of us with Michel Fabrizio as a WSB rider also wouldn't receive his GP points if he'd got any.

The points will be done in the next few days, cos it's transfer time it takes a bit longer to get it all in order for the last part of the season. But they will come!

Ginger Racing is my 'B' team - we were a little down on entries at the start of the year so I put a second team in as well as allowing harsha, leopardsleeping and jonny h (later) theirs to get the numbers up a bit.

Yep, it's gone pretty smoothly - although what I should've done was swapped Folger and Aegerter out and put Terol and Cluzel in for parts 2 and 3 and then we'd have been even further ahead (I started with Terol but he had an iffy opening four races, then has been superb - Folger and Aegerter have faded after bright openings to the season, and Cluzel has been a revelation)

Well it looks like Team NoBlouse's meteoric rise has been slowed... Iannone doing us no favours and costing us valuable sponsorship dollars from Crikey Mike's Value For Money Car Yard and Sheila's Topless Bar in Upper Goondiwindi... but having jumped to 9th from 18th is enough to have attracted interest from a multitude of interested parties... Team Principal Humperdink Blofart is unfortunately not at liberty to disclose any further details but was seen in discussion with Silvio Berlusconi at Rogues Gallery in Turkmenistan...

Well, you're still second and after this weekend there's only Valencia MotoGP left so if you have a good one this time you should be assured of second overall (my Superbike lineup is stronger than my GP riders). Mind you, me claiming a 1-2 overall in my own League - since Ginger Racing is me too - would be a *bit* much...

Still a lot to play for for most positions, actually!

I'll just be happy to stay in the top ten, but it might be tough - Dunder Mifflin Racing has some of the serious contenders for high scores in the last few rounds...

Good work there Pat, both on running the thing, and selecting some excellent riders for your teams!

Guys, just a quick one that the final standings after Valencia won't be done until Wednesday-ish unfortunately - I'm away for a work training course Sat-Tues (although Sat/Sun is social calls really) so probably won't see the races live [working on a possible solution to that!] and prefer to see them before doing the points.

Hope that's OK!
