Ethiopia has now completed their withdrawl from Somalia. It won't be long before it becomes al Qaeda's very own little country. If they decide to rename it, the economy ought to pick up for those in the map and globe business.

Fiero...it will be just one more crappy little 3rd world hole that Islam will poison against all in the Western world and claim it is us evil people that made their 3rd world hole the hole that it is.

The sad part is, most of these nations that spend most of their time wallowing in hate and misery are that way because they refuse to look at how any successful nation grows and makes life better for their citizens. More of this 12th century Sharia law stuff wont do anything but make more misery....

Maybe, but the good news is they'll have their own little happy place where they can kill each other in peace.

Again you are just showing your ignorance, there is a part of former Somalia in the north called Somaliland, Heard of it? Bet you haven't as it wouldn't get a mention on the crap talk back radio shows you listen to whilst you are up there in your big rig.

So I'll enlighten you, Somaliland declared independence from Somalia in 1991, it issues it's own passports, has it's own currency, holds elections, quote "In 2002, after several extensions of this interim government, Somaliland finally made the transition to multi-party democracy, with district council elections contested by six parties".

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Somaliland

For some reason it is not recognised by the USA and others as they consider it just a break away rogue state and is still a part of Somalia.

"Somaliland has political contacts with the United Kingdom (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Kingdom),[8] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Somaliland#cite_note-7)[9] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Somaliland#cite_note-Future_recognition-8) Ethiopia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethiopia),[9] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Somaliland#cite_note-Future_recognition-8) Belgium (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Belgium),[9] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Somaliland#cite_note-Future_recognition-8) Ghana (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ghana),[9] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Somaliland#cite_note-Future_recognition-8) South Africa (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_Africa),[9] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Somaliland#cite_note-Future_recognition-8) Sweden (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sweden)[9] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Somaliland#cite_note-Future_recognition-8) and Djibouti (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Djibouti).[10] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Somaliland#cite_note-Djibouti-9) On January 17 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/January_17), 2007 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2007), the European Union (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_Union) sent a delegation for foreign affairs to discuss future cooperation.[11] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Somaliland#cite_note-10) The African Union (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/African_Union) has also sent a foreign minister to discuss the future of international acknowledgment, and on January 29 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/January_29) and January 30 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/January_30), 2007 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2007), the ministers said that they would discuss acknowledgement with other member states [12] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Somaliland#cite_note-11) In June 2007, the Prime Minister of Ethiopia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heads_of_government_of_Ethiopia), Meles Zenawi (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meles_Zenawi) held a conference with President Kahin during which he was referred to in an official communique by the Ethiopian Foreign Ministry as the President of Somaliland (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/President_of_Somaliland), the first time that Somaliland has been officially acknowledged as a sovereign state by another government. While this is not claimed as a move to official recognition by Ethiopia, it is seen as a possible step towards a unilateral declaration by Ethiopia in the event of the African Union failing to move its recognition of Somaliland forward.[9] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Somaliland#cite_note-Future_recognition-8)
A delegation led by the President of Somaliland (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/President_of_Somaliland) was present at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting 2007 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Commonwealth_Heads_of_Government_Meeting_2007) in Kampala (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kampala), Uganda (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uganda).

Hmmmm the last line is very telling, the USA, defender of freedumb, doesn't know whether to support a breakaway "democratic want to be country" or a bunch of fanatical muslims that hijack ships and drag the bodies of US soldiers around the street behind jeeps!

Give me a break!

At least they could end the piracy near the coast of Somalia and get some law and order in the country.

funny, the West basically steals the wealth of those 3rd world countries.

European aid money to Ehtioia gets sent to where? That's right the US Treasury who then lends the money out to Ethiopia!

Your pension, if you have one, depends on Arab oil sheiks buying up shares on the NYSE instead of spending their money in the Arab world.

Ok...so the USA should recognize them. Great...does that change much? maybe...maybe not. Consider me told....As I have pointed out more than once, Bush aint perfect.

That said, watch what Obama does.....he may choose to ignore this country in the making too.

AS for my crap talk shows, they don't spend hours worrying about Somailialand. They should perhaps...but even the ernest and left leaning CBC talk shows have not talked about this, and I listen to them for about 2 hours a day.....

Contrary to popular belief, I don't listen to Rush Limbaugh 15 hours a week....

Funny that problem didn't come up until US backed forces invaded Somalia to prop up a US backed governement that had direct links to the warlords and the pirates which interestly are not part of the religious fringes.
Somalians never supported the puppet government and hugely dislike Ethiopia on historic terms as well as the recent failed invasion/occupation.
Another failed superficial foreign policy and a heck of a job.
---------------------------
On the subject of Somaliland not being recognized by the US and etc. This might just be rooted in their Ethiopian ally's fears that such a state would create a problem for them in regard to the Somalian minorities living in Ethiopia who have long held a strong desire to be free and independent from Ethiopia.
