This year i'm hoping to go with some friends to the British GP. I've never gone to see F1 before so I was wondering a couple of things:

1. The £99 tickets- how long is it normally before they run out?
2. Camping: Where do people normally camp, also how much does it cost and how long in advance do people normally book it?

If i remember right, the last date to get the reduced ticket prices was 31st January, so your about a week too later to get a ticket at £99. Ticket prices will have gone up now. Check http://www.silverstone-circuit.co.uk

There are various camp sites around the circuit. Silverstone's website can also help you with more information. The closest campsite is Litchlake, and its right opposite the main gates. You cant book, and its usualy full by Friday morning. Personally although I like the funfair, I think its too noisey to camp there. I camp at the SRC campsite near Silverstone village. I've booked already and its a flat rate fee of £60 whether you sleep in a tent or caravan. There are additional feers for gazebo's and extra cars etc.

instead of normal spectator tickets for the gp try some hospitality packages , i use grandpriximages.com ive been to private tests, tyre tests with the full vip treatment and just bought some vip hospitality tickets for the grand prix this year too

have a look at the test day hositality they have , i went a few times last year with them and the day was leagues ahead of any gp ive been to

you wont see much action for £99 becuase there are people that put seats in the best spectator positions from Friday until the Grandprix is over.

Its an unfair practice but some people dont care.

So you may aswell pay the extra for a grandstand seat and get some fool with an airhorn in your ear.

i got great views with a basic £99 ticket, you just have to be prepared to get to most parts very early!

yea get there early but these people put a chair there and all there stuff, just so they can keep that spot, then they go off somehwhere.

If you want that spot then you have to stay there otherwise people should be able to dump all there stuff and take that spot.

On the Friday they don't have restrictions so you can sit anywhere, Saturday isn't too bad but best to get there early. On Sunday, be there when the gates open, people don't leave stuff there over night so it's a first come first served basis to get the best spots.

The gates open at 5am, well it could be 5.30 actually. It always amazes me that the fist person in the gates still runs as fast as they can. The circuit is empty, there really is no need to run, you can pick your spot. The best places such as Luffield do get full within about 20 minutes of the gates opening. If your not prepared to get up early, your better off getting a grandstand ticket if you ask me.

Not so bad now that Luffield is in the Bronze Plus area, it costs more but last year wasn't as cramed as previous.

Still best to get there at 5:00 though :D

Stuart- this might sound an odd question but do you enjoy anything about the grand prix experience? You dont like air horns, you dont like getting up early, or any f1 fans usual behaviour.

I rather like the whole 5:00 thing, getting in, settling down with coffee and bacon role, enjoying the atmosphere. Of course it would be a different matter if the weather is crap!

Yeah its good untill you wake up about 9am after settling down to a nice nap about 6am-ish, and even though your freezing you still find you've got sunburnt. Doh!

re the camping, we have been the last couple of years, and camped in 04 when barrichello won the great gp, we phoned about on a friday afternoon, got turned down by about 4 sites, then found a massive site that has just opened up more field, was tenner a car, and about 5min from the track. IMO, its the best way to do things, bbq's, great atmosphere, meet loadsa ppl, tis like a party...

P.s Gettin up at 5am is all very well, but its the best way to get woken up by screaming engines if u are not in a rush

We camped at Cavalier Fields last year. It was about £50 I think. Be prepared for a long walk though. It always seemed longer on the way back. As for the ticket, we got a seat on the Hangar Straight. If you get £99 general admission ticket, I recommend you make your way to Club Corner, there was plenty of space there and you get to see a good portion of the track

:mad: The reason for getting there early is every year there is less space to watch from. Every year more temporary stands and hospitality suites seem to appear lining Silverstones and Bernies pockets. so my advice is stay at home and watch it on the telly, and use your money for Donington the following week with no doubt more exciting racing!!!!

True they had put up more stands last year, some of which were empty. In fact many of the seats were empty, maybe because of the World Cup??

The World Cup did have an affect on last years British GP, but I think this years attendance will be boosted by the fact that Button is now a proven race winner and everyone wants to know whether Hamilton is the next best thing since sliced bread after all.
