I just heard that due to bad weather conditions, Ferrari has decided to debut its 2009 car Mugello on Monday as opposed to Fiorano.
Maranello has been hit hard by the weather in the last 24 hours, with the Fiorano test track left covered by a layer of snow!

What's wrong with launching a new car in the snow  Arrows managed it perfectly ok at Silverstone :p

hello,
i am a Ferrari fun, so i am looking forward to see the new 2009 car,
not only because of the new regulations, but also because Ferrari have not shown us any components like new wings, on the interim cars they test in the last testings.
Are they going to represent the car like last year? if i am correct, they just gave some photos to the press, nothing special...
Are they going to run the car only on the circuit and give some ''interim photos'' to the press? I am looking forward to that, because is the first car to go out on track!!!
Imagine every team to have different aerodynamic look and different aerodynamic philosophy ... !!!! :D

Though in fairness, does look better than expected. I think with time we'll come to appreciate the look of these new cars. I remember the transistion from 1997 to 1998 was strange, and they looked weird, but I got use to them pretty quick.
And with the unveiling of first car, already I can see myself liking them.
The front view from Henry looks pretty tidy.

I think people will eventually see that for example the 2008 BMW was a horrible mockery of car design.

Nice to see some clean lines on a F1 car again, and hopefully a permanent end to dumbo wings, horrible chimneys and flip-ups; as well as those horrible grooves which had no place on racing tyres.
The massive difference in size between the front and rear wings will take some getting used to, but I'd imagine that five minutes into first practice at Melbourne and we won't really care.

What i'm really looking forward to is seeing how each individual team interperates the new rules, i'm sure there won't be any hint of similarity between cars this year! They will all have a level of uniqueness that we haven't seen since the '90s i think

They only did a couple of laps to show it off so I guess they just banged on an old set of inters.
Bearing in mind the Ferrari usually looks one of the nicest cars, I hate to think what the new regs will look like on some of the others.

It's nothing new. They 'stole' that off the Force Indias and Renaults.
And I'm surprised those deflectors/shields/ears have been managed to be somewhat retained this year.
Overall the F60 is a nice tidy package. Looks more like FBMW/FRenault than F3. I was expecting a lot worse but then again all the cars will look similar and will come as a less surprise as the year goes on.
As long as the racing's good there'll be no complaints.

In addition to what Knock-on said, keep in mind that it's blummin' cold out there at the moment. The movement of the tread on the inters means they heat up a lot quicker.

Yep, it's going to be one of the issues of the 2009 season, drivers getting their tyres up to operating temperature. Slick tyres do offer more grip than grooved, but only when they have a much bigger variance in performance according to the temperature.
It's something we haven't seen so much in recent years but I remember races on slicks back in the day where a driver already on track would have about a laps advantage on a car just exiting the pits who's tyres were not yet fully warmed up, despite tyre warming blankets.

That and KERS - or more specifically how reliable it is and whether it's worth the excess weight. Ferrari confirmed that the car today was running with it but may not use it in Melbourne citing reliability concerns

I was very dissapointed with the mirror supports too. first thing that I noticed. Basically still a winglet. Maybe a loophole in the rules?

Also, do you think that the name F60, a reference to Ferrari's longest tenure, another stab at Bernie by Luca?
To me it is a sort of double entendre, a celebration of their history, and a reference to the fact that they ARE the old boys club.
It seems to fit right in with their pissing contest.

From some view angles the car actually looks quite nice (starting to get used to the new look, eh?), but the front look is still annoying for my eyes with highly emphasized width of that 'massive' front wing.
Maybe watching one car isn't too bad, but looking at 20 such bulldozers on the grid at Melbourne will look kinda odd.
Well, what can I say more? Like mentioned before, the inlets in sidepods look quite interesting (smaller than before at first glance, haven't made an investigation), but due to massive changes won't really try to make too far-fetched conclusions at the moment before another car hasn't been seen for enabling to get some kind of a comparison platform. And the next one - Toyota, that is. :)

From several angles the car looks good. When you get an angle that accentuates the different widths of the front and rear wings things deteriorate rapidly.
I think the solid colour of the livery helps make the car look much better. Picture this car with Renault's vomit-inducing ING livery from '08 and it's not such a pretty picture.

No complaints here! I like it!
Those who complain about the front or rear wings are used to the front wing being a foot off the ground thanks to FIA regs. Once upon a time all front wings were low and wide.
The rear wing doesn't bother me. Take a look back to '83 - '84 when the rear wings were huge monsters! Or how about the 1991 Jordan with its tri-plane rear wing? Wing styles come and go.
I'm most impressed by the clean body lines - no winglets or flip-ups!
The engine compartment looks VERY compact, even with KERS installed.

The transition from wide to narrow track made the cars look uber weird, we soon got used to it.
Same here, the 'ugly' novelty will soon wear off.

It'll be interesting to see what other teams do with their wing mirrors. IMHO it appears that on the Ferrari the structure supporting them directs the air as efficiently as possible, therefore acting rather like the winglets, flip-ups and other aero bits & pieces that were supposed to be gone for 2009. The primary purpose is obvious, but that's not so say there isn't a secondary purpose not covered by the rules.

Wing mirrors obviously have to go somewhere, and we're yet to see the other cars, but I do wonder whether we'll see the design of these develop during the course of the season into something the rules have not envisioned.

I can see this coming. The mirrors placed on the outer extremities of the car certainly helps with aero efficiency but hinders the driver. DC had to revert to the standard set up last year and even then still had problems!

Apart from the World Champion who is allocated No.1, it is the teams who are awarded the numbers, not the drivers. Felipe or Kimi could run either 3 or 4 depending on what Ferrari put on the application form.

Maybe they apply to the better performing driver (as it should be in the spirit of fairness), in this case look no further than last season's end.
The fact that Massa got to shake down the car even though Kimi was available confirms that they believe he deserves to be the one with the smaller number on the car.
Anyway, the number they sport on their cars will be of little sporting interest during the coming season.

Whatever, keep out of other people's nasty business, if you wish to have your pipe in peace.

The drivers will do well not to have more broken front wings in the first few races.
In any case, I hope the design leads to more overtaking opportunities.

your kidding right?
its good to have something else to read to keep things ticking over in the off season, other than car launches.
Thank God Ron Dennis paid Garry and Ioan off to keep fighting to spark some interest on the F1 boards! ;)
BTW the Ferrari looks stunning, IMO, other than the rear wing. that said i think it looks substantialy better that the ludicrous CFD wing that was touted a few years ago. yeah the wings look out if proportion, but once we've seen al the cars on track we'll soon forget that its not the "normal" look. the clean body work is a big enough plus for me to not be too bothered by the rear wing looking a bit gawky.

Oh, absolutely  I'd expect other teams to be doing something similar on their '09 cars as well.

The sidepod fronts are the main area of aerodynamic freedom, as they are described in the rules as the area for side impact protection and thus excluded from the limitations placed on the three volumes making up the rearward part of the sidepod. To exploit this, Ferrari have shortened the sidepod front as much as possible to allow more vanes to be added.

I don't think those "front wing accident" arguments are really that worrisome. Drivers are adaptable and besides that, they have expressed their concerns about changes in the past too. Weren't some drivers before 2008 worried that without TC wet racing will be "impossible"? Well, at Monza all but one drivers finished.
