I wish KK and GF would have gone ahead and left Champcar as a series this year, before conducting any kind of merger.

Some of you think that's the worst thing they could do, but the IRL would have been looking at a new tv contract, sponsorship, etc....

Maybe with this economy and the way things are right now, TG would be willing to actually "merge" in the correct way!!

Maybe the DP01's could have gone through rigorous testing on various ovals at this stage, and there wouldn't have to be a big issue about waiting for a new chassis and engine program.

Maybe Honda and Cosworth could remain engine suppliers to keep costs down and create a rivalry of who had the better engine for the fans.

Maybe most of the tracks that were worthy of prestigious open wheel racing would still be on the schedule.

Maybe yesteryear could have returned, and for one race a year, the whole series raced with cars designed safely like those dirt trackers that started it all, and it was part of the points!! And the Borg-Warner, and the Vanderbilt Cup would have truly meant something special to all of the drivers and fans. And the centennials for these races would have been phenomenol!!

That's what I'd have liked to have seen.

To date, you have camouflaged your feelings so well.

By the way, there was NO MERGER, correct or otherwise.

Maybe you could quit living in the past and find something constructive to do for the future.

By reading my post, you should be able to tell that I'm aware that there is/was no merger. You should also be able to tell how passionate I am about open wheel racing in America, and what it could/should be. If that doesn't resonate in you after reading this thread, then you've already pre-judged my ideas about open wheel. None of us are getting what we deserve. And, because of how everything went down, we may never get to see racing at its fines ever again!!

And we, all of us, including the drivers, deserved much better!!

In American open wheel racing, the bloodlines run deep, and so far we're just wading around.

I meant this thread for its content, and what American open wheel racing means to me. There's greatness all around open wheel racing in its history! But we may never get to experience ever again. But I believe it was possible. I don't believe it had to end the way it did. It's too bad for all of us.....

Maybe someday, all that was great in open wheel America's history will be embraced, and the performance will match the history.

I'm counting on someone to recognise what needs to be done.....
