No news on how the important Pirelli search for a star challenge is going.

That aside, for Pedder to be 0.04 behind Crocker after SS1 is very good.

Katsu leads from Cody by 5 secs, Scott Peddar abt 15 secs back. Guarav Gill retired on SS4 after setting fastest time on SS3. Results including non-registered drivers should be available from the Malaysian Rally Ch'ship website, http://www.malaysianrally.com/2008/ but it only shows SS1 and the page won't load for me!

Ok, now overall results up to SS4 are available on the malaysian rally aprc website (though SS3 doesn't load, grrr!). It looks like Eli Evans leading the Pirelli
Star class from Mark Tapper, several of the young 'uns retired in SS3, SS4 and Brad Ayrling didn't even complete SS1.

Well, I am trying to find out results and info, but it is not easy to do!
I now know that Cody Crocker is leading after Day1 and has almost secured his third APRC title because main rival, Taguchi Katsuhiko slipped off the road in SS6 and couldn't get back on. Apparently, most of the stages were very slippery after mid-week rain. Mark Tapper heads the Pirelli field from Eli Evans, almost all other contenders did not finish, most will re-start tomorrow.

He was driving Evo IX. MRF Team will not run Evo X until next year. Actually, Malaysian Rally is their last event this season.
The Evo X he will drive at Rally Japan is built in Japan and the entrant is Japan Mitsubishi Dealer Team

It makes things look good for Tapper at the moment for the Pirrelli standings but there is nothing to say that Mark or Eli may not finish tomorrow if todays DNF list is continued.

And, as the Pirelli Star winner is calculated on number of stage wins, Paddon could, in theory, come back tomorrow and win. Now I think about it, Eli is probably 'leading' Mark after Day 1 with no. of stage wins - will have to check results (when they are all published!).

The second day is over and congratulations to Cody Crocker & Ben Atkinson on their third APRC championship. It was good to see Taguchi take todays win and it would seem as if Mark Tapper will be the APRC Pirelli Star driver after winning both days (yet to read through every stage to count individual stage wins.

Yes, Mark Tapper did indeed win the PSD award, after a chaotic event, in more ways than one.

Overseas drivers were caught out by the slippery and muddy stages, plus the combination of steaming heat and torrential rain. Most had a drama or three and some ended up in hospital due to dehydration.

The organizers did their best to make sure everyone was unhappy, by providing an idiotically-shaped service park surrounded by seas of mud, and by failing to provide any kind of meaningful results service. Those of you browsing the web probably had more info than those of us who were actually there! A giant step backwards for Malaysian rallying :-(
