I don't know if it's mentioned here already.
There was a short story on a Finnish F1 site

Apparently it's been discussed somewhere, by someone, maybe. ;)
It's about a suggestion for the safety car system. When SC comes out, a light goes on in the steering wheel, and drivers have five seconds to push a button to slow down for a designated speed. Re-fueling and tyre changes would be possible, but the cars should not exceed the speed limit at any time when SC is on the track.
Hasn't there been similar suggestions on the forums too?

Wasn't this system actually trialled out at the French GP in free practice. However any changes were put on hold, because with the 5 second window, drivers could quite easily gain a lot of time by leaving it till last minute, whilst some overs would do it straight away.
That said, look at the disadvantage some have from current system. Hopefully they'll think of something over the winter which everyone is happy with.

Yeah!! I suggested something along those lines, together with flashing warning lights at the side of the tracks.

I understand the scepticism about the new system (5 seconds -> drive throughs as some fail to notice the message during this relatively short time; possible electronical glitches and some drivers may not get the notification at all, etc), but considering how unfair current SC rules are, then well... the new rules are worth trying and they can't turn out to be worse! I'm already thinking that anything would be an improvement over what we have got now...

Yep, by me. All they have to do is hit the pit lane limiter so the flashing red light goes on.
