View Full Version : The Ultimate 10 Car Garage

The Hamster on Top Gear made the point that everyone has tucked away in the back of their minds, The Ultimate 10 Car Garage which given an unlimited sack of money they would have.
I thought about this long and hard and no matter which way I ended up, it looked surprisingly... normal.
- Jaguar D-Type
- Jaguar E-Type
- Ford GT40 MkIV
- Ford RS200
- Ford Sierra RS500
- Ford Ka
- Morris Mini Cooper S
- Austin FX4
- AEC Routemaster
- The Shooting Star
The scary thing is all but one of them has been seen on British roads... and that one isn't likely either ;)

Mine changes by the hour but the standard entries include a Mk1 Mex, a Cooper and an Alfa Brera. Also think that the McLaren F1 would have to make an appearance and a Caterham. Probably a 6r4 too, largely for the noise. E-Type most likely in their and a 300SL ooohh and a 250 SWB and something like a T35 Bugatti. Ooooh and the old Austin 7 the old man used to have. How many is that??? 11!!!!!!! oh crap. Ummmmmmm lose the 6r4, the others make a pretty good noise between them :D :D Or actually, keep the Metro and drop the 300SL.........no scratch that, without it I'd feel that the fleet wasn't pretty enough, even with the E-Type and Brera.

Why not an Escort Cosworth? I could do you a good deal on a nice Black one!

Provided bandwidth is not a problem, I think to display pic of each car would be preference. Those are familiar with only japanese car wouldn't be automatically familiar with european/american cars and vice versa, besides there might be difference of series name of a car region by region.
The first five cars of original post seem to be fine. The name of Datsun also reminds me of my uni classmate's car which is now sold out without notifying me.

Most probably I will leave out a few and then remember them later :s
Ferrari F40
Ferrari 250 GTO/ 246 Dino
McLaren F1
BMW M5
Renault Clio V6
Nissan 350z
Subari Imprezza WRX STi
Lamborghini Diablo
Jaguar E-Type

pino-> Fiat Multipla ..ughhhh :grenade:
I'm only having a 5 car garage.
2008 Mini Cooper S
Nissan 350Z
Haven't decided on which model for the next ones:
Porsche
Shelby
And for purely sentimental reasons I'm keeping my 1500cc 1999 Toyota Levin. It's only done 21,000km.

I actually got asked this in a job interview once. Tried to get every engine configuration I could:
1) V12 - 1964 Ferrari 250 GTO (Red...)
2) Caterham Superlight with a Triumph 3 cyl engine from the 955i bike
3) Flat 6 - 1972 Porsche 911 2.7 Carrera RS (white with blue decals)
4) In line 5 - Audi ur-quattro SWB (Black)
5) V6 - Ferrari 246 Dino (Red)
6) In line 4 - E30 BMW M3 evo (white)
7) Rotary - Series 3 Mazda RX-7
8) In line 6 - BMW 3.0 CSL Batmobile (Green)
9) V8 - Audi R8 (Grey)
10) V10 - Audi RS6
Left me trying to think of something I want with a V4...Saab Sonnet is interesting but ultimately nothing you'd choose over that list.

My ten car garage isn't ten cars. Call me boring, but who would want ten? Nobody can be bothered choosing which works best for a situation - I'd rather just get in and drive.
Aston DB7
Land Rover Bowler
Range Rover (any model - it's just for pottering about in)
RD350YPVS (because I still miss my 1984 one)
Huge horse wagon would be nice ...

Lancia Stratos
I should have included this somewhere... dang. This is a car which exudes sexiness from every duct.
And for a car which went out of production in '74 to win the '74, '75 and '76 Constructors championship and also to win the '77 Monte, shows that this car was also possibly one of the most potent as well.
Do we include Munari's Driver's Title in '77? If we don't then something is wrong.
MrJan

I'm quite ashamed not to have included the Healey 3000.
Got to say though that some of you have some very weird choices which would never enter my head if I had to pick a top 200 :p :

In no particular order
1)Citroen DS as a weekend car (damn you Ben for stealing my idea!!!! :angryfire )
2)Fiat 131 Abarth rally car in gravel spec
3)Peugeot 504 Cabriolet (For weekends when the DS is in the garage having it's hydraulic suspension fixed)
4)Ferrari 288 or a Lamborghini Miura because everyone needs car porn :)
5)Ferrari 456 as a long distance tourer
6)Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA - more porn.....
7)Subaru Legacy RS rally car in tarmac spec with a light pod on the front (don't tell Caroline!)
8)Peugeot 405 T16 in Rallye Raid spec for all those times when you just don't feel like driving around that pesky desert :)
9)Alfa Romeo Mito GTA (daily driver)
10)BMW E30 M3 Evo
and I'm sure Pino will lend me his Stratos so i won't bother doubling up on that one as long as his has gold or fluorescent yellow coffin spoke rims on it.
I think I managed to only double up on the DS, M3 and the 131 so I'm quite happy. Camelopard, I hope you enjoy the live rear axle on your Mirafiori while I'm enjoying my 131 Abarth with independant rear suspension :p
Honourable mentions should go to the:
Lancia Delta Integrale Evo
Fiat Multipla
Audi Quattro S1
Lancia 037
Renault Alpine A110
Porsche 911 2.7 RS like the one Fizzi wants for when I'm feeling suicidal and need a car that doesn't handle properly
Peugeot 406 BTCC car in green and gold livery
Renault Clio Williams
Peugeot 306 Maxi rally car
Maserati Quattroporte
Fiat Grande Punto Abarth SS
Fiat 500 (original)
I could go on but I'll stop now.........

9)Alfa Romeo Mito GTA (daily driver)
Fiat 500 (original)
I woudn't mind using both as daily driver :s mokin:
As for giving you my Stratos...forget it, you need some skills to drive such a great car :p : ;)
Daniel
14th October 2008, 11:41
The 500 would be fine as a city car but for where I live with hills and needing to do 60-70 mph it would be a pain to have a car that can barely do 60 and takes hours to get there. My dad wants to sell his 500. I'd be tempted to buy it and import it. Caroline has said she'd happily drive it.
I wouldn't drive your Statos hard. Cars like that aren't mean to be driven maximum attack, they should be respected and i think i'm capable of that. Are you coming to the karting next year? We'll see who can handle something rear wheel drive with the engine in the middle old man :p

If I had wanted comedy then I would have mentioned the new Fiat Panda styled by none other than Postman Pat himself. The very car I was forced to test drive and have avoided ever since.
Anyway an Imp is tiny, would fit in a corner.

3. Hillman Imp
Hooray! I finally relented and sold mine last year. It's continuing to make lots of nice noises in South Wales somewhere (assuming the 17 year old new owner hasn't killed it yet).
One of the funniest cars you can drive is an Imp with a full-on nutjob spec engine. I had a go in a bright yellow Sunbeam Stilletto (Imp coupe basically) which had been bored out to 1040cc and was running twin Weber DCOE45's, an R23 cam, stage 6 head and all the associated go faster accoutrements.
It was good for 65mph in second gear which was about 10,000rpm and completely deafening. That little engine at full cry is like having a banshee in the back seat - still the only car thats made me laugh every time I've driven it...
