Yes sir I can boogie by Baccara is my nomination.

Heard it somewhere last week and it was absolutely atrocious and the original isn't exactly the best song either :mark:

Any other songs (good or bad) that have been absolutely murdered by a bad dance mix or just a bad cover :angryfire

Did a bit of searching on Youtube and found this which is so damn bad that it's good :cheese:

Comfortably Numb - covered by Scissor Sisters, in the style of the Bee Gees, ouch!!!

Don't tell me you listern to Radio Romantic. I think it's the only radio channel who still plays the old witches.

I've heared that Rihanna covered " Dragostea din tei ". We'll be again haunted by "mai-a-hiiiii, mai-a-hooooooo"

It's very popular on a few video channels here. I forgot to add that it was a sort of dance remix of the song as well which was the bad cover.

I'll be on the lookout for that rihanna song :p

The morning news are that it's already no.1 on Billboard charts. From the sample below ( click the pic ) I see that miss Rihanna broke the joy of the song with a boring R'nB version.

Wyclef Jean covered 'Wish you were here'.

http://in.youtube.com/watch?v=_jqutCxpKLU

The song starts rather awkward, but he makes it work a little bit as it goes on. NOTHING like the original though. Nothing can ever be like the original. I hope nobody touches Pink Floyd songs.

I know that Dream Theater covered a couple of their songs. I heard or saw 'Hey You' and 'Time' somewhere, and it's like going into cardiac arrest for any Pink Floyd fan. I'm sure David Gilmour would puke for like a month if he hears those vocals.

I was disturbed and disgusted to find Maroon 5 doing a cover of "Closer" by NIN the other day. Absolutely shocking. IF anyone is allowed to cover such an awesome song it most certainly is NOT Maroon 5.

"Big Yellow Taxi", Joni Mitchell. Have only heard one cover, painful.
Oh, another one, "Southern Cross", Crosby, Still & Nash. Some band murdered that a while ago.

Today while riding a bus, I heard "For Elise" by Beethoven sampled by a reggeaton group...

couldn't be more disgusted!

I used to think that Pino but then I heard Dub Side and was really impressed by how faithful they were to taking the original and developing it. If you haven't heard it then at least give it a listen:

Breathe (http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=94hnocjMBqo)
Time (http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=lz7OFW3p1C8&feature=related)
Money (http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=gVwQzB6JDSk)

Also lived Rodrigo y Gabriela doing Wish You Were Here at Glastonbury a few years back:
Cool (http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=9f075yt5HCw)

That said I think that Scissor Sisters trashed Floyd, and I don't even like The Wall that much (much more of a Dark Side and WYWH person)

After hearing Dub Side and Radiodread as well as a few other covers I'm open to pretty much anything being done again, as long as it is just done well. The difficulty is that you have to make it slightly different (session players can copy songs) but also stay faithful to the original. Sometimes it is possible to make a song 'better' or more famous by covering it, see Hey Joe with Hendrix or Hurt with Johnny Cash :)

Counting Crows did it, embarassing really.

Extending on from my last post there are a few other covers I quite like, largely from being into reggae they are dub covers which seem to fit alright.

Billie Jean - Shinehead (http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=y10FUwJldKM)
Ain't No Sunshine - Jimmy Lindsay (http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=oHS85WsGXBY)
Feeling Good - Muse (http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=jzZRpqkfCDo)
Smells Like Teen Spirit - Ukelele Orchestra of GB (http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=TLQ2eh5LfZY)

What? I haven't heard this monstrosity, thank Dog. How on earth did a squeaky-clean group like Maroon 5 tackle Closer? The only NIN cover I've liked is the Johnny Cash version of Hurt, and Johnny Cash was a legend.

Lou Reed has had some songs massacred - Satellite of Love in a dance remix, that Children in Need version of Perfect Day - but he doesn't seem too fussy about what happens to his old material.

No, I actually like it better than the original. Same for Perfect Day done for Children in Need. I also love Madonna's American Pie just a tad more than the original, even though it was a favourite of mine for twenty something years.

Almost all rock done as a ballad by some silly high pitched woman is nasty. That should be banned and sinners silenced. Swap it about and give, say, Terrorvision a chance at I will always love you and you have a winner, though

The Children in Need version of Perfect Day might have been all right if they had stuck to just some of the singers they used. For example, Emmylou Harris or Dr John could have probably done lovely versions themselves. But no, they had to get Tom Jones and Heather Small to bellow at each other like rutting elephant seals over what should be a gentle, fading last few bars.

I've not heard the ukulele Smells Like Teen Spirit, but there's a video on Youtube somewhere of Amanda Palmer from Dresden Dolls playing Radiohead's Creep on a ukulele. the jury's out on whether it's any good.

I've just heard the godawful X-Factor version of Mariah Carey's Hero. Worthy cause and all that but jesus christ are these finalists honestly the best people they had on the show? My ears hurt. :(

I just hate the recent xFactor type brand anyway. Seems that changing pitch during a note is the in thing and I really can't see why bloody Leona Lewis is so popular

Steve Wright on Radio 2 played a country and western version of Word Up yesterday, which was brilliant in an ironic way

That's one song that can be, and has been, copied a host of different ways really well. So long as they do it with humour it works.

If Steve Wright played it then his researchers probably heard it somewhere else because the bloke is a class A f***ing prune. Usually it comes from Colin Murray's 'Black Hole' show which airs on a Tuesday on Radio 1. A Radiohead/Louis Armstrong mash-up (which I have to say was absolutely awesome) that 'Wrighty' had on the other day had been on CM the week before. I'm fairly sure that Mr 'Big Show' talked all over the end of it as he is prone to do with every bloody track because he is so important and everything should be about him. Doesn't matter that he's been presenting the same stale show for years and isn't fit to clean the shoes of half the commercial radio DJs in the country because for some strange reason people actually like the t**t.

As some people may have guessed I'm not a fan of Steve Wright :D

That shouldn't have been done in the first place, overhyped piece of c***

It sounds like you and Caroline could have long and detailed conversations about why you hate Steve Wright :p

Not in the way I mean :) It's the sort of sound that she does at the start of this song http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=s3kAsUB6nFA&feature=channel or pretty much every time that she sings the word 'I'. Christina Aguirlera does it even more but I let her get away with it because she's hot :cheese:

He did a great cover of Springsteen's "I'm on Fire".

A classic Love-it or Hate-it cover was Devo's take on "Satisfaction"

Unfortunately I can't see the video in my country but I'm pretty sure I know the approximate style of singing you mean.

I'm not a fan of it since I'm not a fan of most modern music, but I can appreciate that some people might like it. I can also understand why a lot of people don't like it.

there is no song that shouldnt be covered

there are many songs that became more known as covers than as the originals
