Just red this in Finnish MTV3:

http://www.mtv3.fi/urheilu/ralli/uutiset.shtml/arkistot/ralli/2008/09/707813

Basically it says that Colin was supposed to return last season to Subaru and drive few rallies. The plan discussed between with Richards, Lapworth and Colin was to develop the car last season and finally drive this whole season.

Apparently this was discussed just 24 hrs before the tragic accident. :(

A dam shame we would never see Colin back in the WRC
as he could make the Fabia work, there was no doubt he could of made the Subaru win in his hands

McRae had a 'done deal' to drive for Subaru in Rally Ireland and Rally GB last year and it was a nearly done deal for the whole 2008 season.
Gutted :(
He'd have brought the WRC back to the forefront again!

Gutted too i really wanted to see McRae back in the WRC. :(

As its already been said look how well he did with the Skoda Fabia WRC im sure he would have been competitive with Subaru and it would have certainly given the World Rally Championship a massive boost.

I’ve loved to see one of the old icons competing against the “youngsters”.

I think Colin would have been quicker than Solberg and Atkinson would have been great to see how close he could get to Seb, Mikko, and Latvala.
On events such as New Zealand, Australia and Rally GB he would definately stand a chance!!!

Same here, the time at Citroen showed how competitive he was.
Also im not sure if this news are true at all, according to Jouhki, Richards wanted Colin to drive for Subaru the same year they signed Hirvonen, Richards did not have the money to sign him, and Subaru wanted a younger driver, Richards was very stubborn about to get Colin and did not want to talk about any other options, thats why FRM did the negotiations directly with Subaru in Japan, thats the main reason why Richards almost destroyed Mikkos carreer.

He would have been faster or he would have destroyed the car trying. :D

You seem to forget that Colin was getting on in years and just like all the other greats he had lost a bit of his speed. He was never that successful in the Xsara and the Xsara was a great car. Methinks Colin's time as a competitive rally driver had passed and then sadly Colin himself passed on :(

In happier news his brother won the Classic Competition division of Targa West here in Perth on the weekend, by a whopping 7 and half minutes. In fact his total elapsed time would have put him 6th in the Modern Competition behind a new R35 GTR, Jim Richard's GT2, a Lamborghini Gallardo, an Evo VII and GT3.

Pretty impressive.

Pretty wrong I say....

I'd come back from beyond the grave and haunt the crap out of someone if they did that to me and my family.

I heard about what Brock's GF was doing. Pretty disappointing. I can understand how she wants to hold on to some of the ashes though. Is there money involved or not?

If shes scraping for money then it's very poor on her part...kids first not partners...

He was driving a 1971 Porsche 911 RS 3.0 IROC.

Haven't really been following the Brock thing. The girlfriend is obviously pretty weird though.

Is that the nice orange one that did the first Targa West?
