Thanks for posting that... I can see why NASCAR did the Chase (ratings to compete with NFL season?) but I agree - I like the Classic end of season MUCH better. Not that I have any preferences on the drivers that would have changed, just that not ALL change is a good idea and a LOT of die-hard multi-generational fans are losing interest because of the over-commercialization and genearl BS in NASCAR in recent years... wish they'd get a clue.

but with the Chase Points Kyle Busch is in 8th, 64 points BEHIND 1st. :s

To me the season ended at richmond and kyle busch is the champion, the re-setting of the points is a joke and cheapens the credability of the whole series.
If anyone other than Kyle,Carl,Jimmie or even Jr ends up as this seasons champion then it would be an even bigger farce.

It already is a farce...that's why I'm hoping the champion comes out of one of the drivers w/o a win, and one that doesn't win a race this season.

I'm hoping someone from outside of the top 12 wins on the classic points.

There were two other drivers besides Matt Kensith to win the modern era championship with only one win (Benny Parsons and Ned Jarrett). Was there a controversy then?

I'm sure there was one in 1950 when Bill Rexford won one race and the championship and Curtis Turner won four races and was fifth in points.

Bill Elliott won 11 races that year and Darrell Waltrip won 3. Waltrip won the championship.

That year there was much consternation over NASCAR's Points System. No one was calling it "Classic".

Yeah, but no one called Coke "Classic" until "New Coke" came out and everyone realized how bad it could be (so I'm told).

It's funny that after Dover, Kyle Busch isn't even leading on the "classic" system anymore. He still has a 24 point lead (I think he had a 400 point lead a few weeks ago) on my alternate system. I think this proves that even though I'm paying a lot more to win, I can still punish inconsistency.

I agree about drivers racing differently, didnt the 18 team experiment at pocono and richmond with radical setups when they knew they were locked in chase.Under the old system they would have probably raced more conservatively in these races and still be leading points now despite these 3 bad weeks.
Does it actually make any difference to nascar what the fans think, are they likely to make any changes to the chase system in the near future or better stilll scrap it?

Interesting....we would have a great battle on the old system between Carl and Jimmie...and low and behold we have not quite as good a battle in the Chase between those two with Biff not far back.

I think I like the Chase now that I am seeing how it has kept racing more vital week to week for more drivers. People can squak all they want....in the end it is NASCAR's sandbox...we are just allowed to watch..or not.

That's what he has done after Lowe's Saturday. He has run a smooth, top-10s each week run that has propelled him to the top while the Big Two of Busch and Edwards have made major chokes. Each of the Big Two have had a crash and a breakdown and Johnson is easily coasting. Might this be a Johnson runaway if he keeps up with consistent top 5 and top 10 finishes with a podium or two on the way for the remaining five races?

I think this is all the proof we need to say the Chase dont work. We should start a fan fund and send a trophy to the winner of the classic points standings each year.

So that Jimmie Johnson gets 2 trophies???

What I find absolutely hilarious is that the two series in which there is no Chase have closer points battles than Cup, and Cup would be closer with out the Chase...that's funny

why the chase still and always will suck. ever since they put the chase in, the thrill of drivers winning just sort of went away, also the races now are alot more boring, thanks to the CoT.

I didn't know NASCAR was still racing. I thought they were done in September. ;) Last race I watched any of was Richmond.

What NASCAR needs to do is drop the second race from the majority of it's tracks and trim their schedule to 25-26 races, maybe add in an off weekend once a month and end the series by the first of October at the lastest. Too many races, too long of a schedule.

There you have it, Carl Edwards would be the Champion IF the stupid chase had not been implemented ... http://www.motorsportforum.com/forums/images/icons/eek.gif
plus if you notice, the points margin 1st to 2nd in the classic points would have been only 16 points ... http://www.motorsportforum.com/forums/images/icons/eek.gif
the stupid chase has a 69 points margin 1st to 2nd & it was supposed to create a tight points battle. http://www.motorsportforum.com/forums/images/icons/rolleyes.gif
