I'm trying to get my head around the Intercontinental Rally Challenge and European Rally Championship. I remember watching a rally a few weeks ago which Freddy Loix had won in an S2000 Peugeot. It was a tarmac event but I can't remember which rally. Anyway, I had thought I was watching ERC coverage but now I'm not so sure.

Has the IRC got any connection with the ERC or are they completely different championship (maybe with criss-crossing calendars?) And are either under the FIA banner?

Just trying to settle my confusion. Google just adds to it! :p :

Both are separate champioships but they share some rallys (Turkey, Ypres, Madeira and Barum Czech Republic which You saw).

Ok nice one. And is it the ERC which is run by the FIA, or both?

Yes, IRC is private project but under FIA rulles.

The IRC is up and coming, while the ERC is a shadow of its former self. Which is quite sad. An ERC rally ony gets a strong entry list when it's a common round with the IRC.

In the ERC a Subaru driver can score points, while in the IRC he is waived when they add all stage times and publish the overall classification.

Oh, not good news for the ERC then. Oh well, this IRC sounds like a cracking championship a full to the brim with S2000 entries. It might be a good sign of things to come if the WRC develops similarly (or maybe it will mean the WRC is too similar to a separate championship?)
