Check out the new internet browser.

I'm trying it right now as I type and I love it! Really takes down the clutter from Fire Fox 3, which tended to annoy me, and the pages load a lot faster.

Anyone else using the new browser?

I'll say what I always say. "meh"

I used to be a firefox user back in the IE6 days when Internet explorer was pretty insecure and pretty much unusable when you consider the tabbed browsers of today. But IE7 works so well and IE8 Beta 1 is even better although it does break Windows Live Mail as well as google maps but I'm told Beta 2 fixes these issues.

As with just about everything that google does they will call it a Beta for years because they can't or can't be bothered fixing issues which just shouldn't be issues. Then there's also the huuuuuge issue of data security and privacy. There is absolutely no chance of me ever using a google branded browser to access the internet.

The rather excellent IE8 Beta 2 can be downloaded here -> http://www.microsoft.com/windows/internet-explorer/beta/worldwide-sites.aspx

I used Firefox for a while when I was sharing a house with a techy type, after about 3 weeks I went back to IE, stick with what you know :) I know that people moan about the terrrible security or whatever but I've not had a problem before.

As Daniel says the whole Google thing is off putting, the toolbar alone keeps seeming to crop up unwanted and getting on my t**s.

I downloaded the Windows version and took it for a little spin. I found it snappy at first but as I opened more tabs it seemed to get slower and slower. In theory that is not supposed to happen - but the way that Chrome works I reckon makes it *more* likely to get slower as more tabs are opened. Especially if your internet connection is a bit slow and so the tabs are taking a while to load. Running everything as its own process is a tops idea but surely that begins to give a huge overhead in managing the messsages between the processes.

If they're able to correct the glitches, it does very well for Google as a company. I like the really simple interface it has, but still prefer how Opera runs.

Combined with Firefox and Safari, what does this say for poor old Explorer?

This says that you haven't used IE7 or IE8.

I'm at work currently using IE6 at work and yes it's a bag of poop. But IE7 and IE8 do just about everything 99% of users will want them to do which is display web pages. I would still be using the IE8 beta 1 at home if not for the fact that it breaks google maps and live mail. When IE8 is released it'll be fantastic.

As predicted Google's "don't be evil" mission statement seemed to have gone out the door until they changed the EULA because on an "oversight". Yeah right..... because Google aren't an evil monopoly like Microsoft they must be great! Oh wait they're exactly like Microsoft but worse!http://www.dailytech.com/Article.aspx?newsid=12856&red=y#comments

Why? Does it suffer the same fate as Chrome? :D

I found it snappy at first but as I opened more tabs it seemed to get slower and slower.

There's nothing inherently wrong with IE, it's just that well... I usually use a Mac with Opera or Firefox on in the first place. For me to be on a Wintel machine is rather a bit rare.

Own goal for Mr Rollo. You just proved my point :)

Don't really like Chrome.

It feels like they've gone backwards, problems with flashplayer and crashes.

IE7 - too slow for my liking

Firefox - uses up too much memory.

Opera - crashes on my machine

On balance I stick with Firefox. I does what I want it to do so its fine by me.

Like most things in life its down to personal taste.

Here is my conclusion:

On-balance I decided to stick with FF3. Chrome is a lot faster and I love the web browser, but some options are just too finicky for my liking and the security is nonexistent. I liked the "incognito" browser (for you porn users), but was better off knowing that FF3 could delete all of my cookies once I closed the page.

Sorry. I will stick to Firefox!

Been using Chrome since yesterday evening and haven't had any problems with it at all. Much faster than IE too!

Using it all the time now. But Bill is being cheeky and getting to keep trying to set itself as default browser.

Bill is scary. :D

i feel Firefox is better...cause of the customizability it offers and the addons..

some problems i find with Chrome

1:it takes a lot of time when switching to one tab from another...also it has problems with youtube videos.

2:i wish they had offered the reload button as a right click option

and the firegestures, foxytunes and the real player addons aren't there :cheese:

Sounds about right for Google: brilliant at search but risking turning into a jack-of-all-trades, master at just the one.

I haven't tried Chrome yet, but it can't be much worse than FF3. It'll take a lot to convince me to use anything other than IE7 / IE7Pro; I have tried IE8 Beta 1 but as Daniel points out it's not quite ready for everyday use just yet.

Have you tried the IE8 Beta 2? I've been meaning to but haven't got around to it yet. It's supposed to fix the issues with google maps and live mail which were the only problems I had with them.

I've been playing with IE8b2 and Chrome this morning. So far I can't see any advantage to web slices and all the other toys, but obviously that's more due to lack of support. Certainly Google Maps is fine and dandy again, and I've had no obvious compatibility issues thus far.

Chrome? I'm with you on the "meh". It failed to import my cookies and made a hash of my favourites, and struggles with Flash videos from the f1.com.

Have you tried hotmail? I'm getting "funky" results still :(
