The only surprise is Patrik Sandell in a Lancer EVO IX.

Here it is:

Seems quite strange with Patrik... It has to be something wrong with that page, im quite sure he will drive his usual Peugeot 207! :S

Thanks Jaanus!!

Very short entry list in WRC more or less like Japan.

Maybe Sandell expects to be more competitive with the Mitsu than with the Peugeot.

I think that 15 WRC cars is better than last year, although I can't really remember.

I can't believe Travis isn't on the list.

Mr. Block is taking the dubious honor of being at the back.

Only 14. No car 13 of course as per usual. There would have been 15 if Companc wasn't retiring.

Last year there was only 13, and only 11 in 2006, so things are on the up!!

Mr. Block is taking the dubious honor of being at the back.

Considering his sterling record of flipping on the first or second stage in his few (easy) WRC starts, maybe that's the best place for him.

Ah, of course, no number 13.

Next year there won't be any WRC cars in NZ :(

I'm sure the S2000 would do very well on fast gravel event like NZ(ex Juho Hänninen on Rally Russia/IRC)...

Who is driving number 44? Some local like Suominen in NORF?
(Gabor Mayer´s is exluded by FIA rest of year 2008, he has no medical reason to skip Turkey, FIA statement was on notice board in NORF HQ)

I overheard a conversation between Sandell and Galli at Bjerkeracet in June, where Sandell asked Galli if he knew of any fast Lancers available for Finland I think. It seems that didn't work out, so I guess the Lancer he was asking about is the one he will be driving in NZ. The reason for this I don't know, but I thought I might of heard that the 207 wasn't available for the certain rally (Which then was Finland).

3. Itinerary V5 20-08-08.
SS2/4 Waitomo will be run as 2 stages.
So, we have stage 2.1 and 2.2 and stage 4.1 and stage 4.2 :-)
Is it related to very wet weather?
Interesting to see how WRC com shows the stage number ;-)

Dale is really nice guy who knows Rally NZ very well, if communication is good (Novikov's english) it could be to his (Novikov's) benefit ...

Patrik Sandell have hired a Evo9 in NZ, he hasnt seen or tried the car before so he and his codriver are just driving in NZ to get experience.

To ship their Peugeot to NZ with plane was to expensive and it had taken 3 months with a boat.

Weather forecast for New Zealand :

Well, at the moment it looks like the low pressure area is giving up and the weather is improving day by day. Tomorrow there will be quite a huge possibility of rain but Wednesday, Thursday and Friday should be fine weather:-)
The stages should dry up a little because the maximum temperatures during the next days will be up to 15-16 degrees. Morning stages will be quite difficult because the temperature is only up to 5-6 degrees and with hard tires :-)
For Saturday it is still difficult to call but there is a possibility of rain and cold weather. Sunday looks to fine again. In the worst scenario it will be wet and 6 degrees of warmth on Saturday morning :-)

This rally marks the 15th anniversary of Subaru’s first World Rally win, on the 1993 New Zealand Rally, at the hands of Colin McRae. Come on Petter, win one in honor of Colin!
