2/ Takes place all over. Most is outside but it's not really a simple explanation, watch some videos on Youtube to find out.

3/ P-WRC is for production cars that have very little modifying. J-WRC is for young drivers in less powerful cars than the normal WRC. P-WRC allows 4 wheel drive, J-WRC is 2 wheel drive.

4/ Gravel, Ice/Snow, Tarmac.

5/ http://wrc.com/jsp/index.jsp?lnk=600

6/ Don't know. There are 4 rallies on tarmac (I think) but don't know how many stages each has.

It's not difficult to find out yourself if you look at the link already posted. It's actually quite difficult to explain as I've grown up watching the sport and just know what it is.

J-WRC
Junior World Rally Championship. Like the P-WRC, a support championship for the World Rally Championship. The J-WRC has seven rounds and is for front-wheel drive 1600cc hot hatchbacks. J-WRC drivers must be born on or after 1st January 1979 - so they cannot be older than 28 at the start of the Championship year to compete.

P-WRC
The FIA Production car World Rally Championship (P-WRC) is the showcase support championship to the WRC. Cars are built to the FIA's Group N or Super 2000 regulations and have less technical freedom than WRC cars. Eight rallies of the WRC calendar count towards the P-WRC. Participation in six of the eight events is mandatory, with P-WRC entrants nominating their six events before the start of the season.

4. Gravel, snow and tarmac but there are very different gravel and tarmac events. http://www.wrc.com/jsp/index.jsp?lnk=400

5. Four manufacturers teams. More http://www.wrc.com/jsp/index.jsp?lnk=600

6. I don’t know. In the 2008 calendar is 3 tarmac rallies. Check this same link before the start of a rally

1: I have heared different versions on how rally racing is called Rally, someone else will have to answer that.
2: Super Specials are generally held outside because of there size, there is nothing regulating them to this though. The first indoor arena SS for the WRC will be held this year in Japan.
3: Your bigest differences in the cars is P-WRC cars are AWD with manual transmissions, as J-WRC are FWD with a pedal shifted transmission.
4:Tarmac, gravel, and ice/snow
5:Four, (Subaru Citroen Ford Suzuki) but you have othe teams like Stobart who can win manufacturers points as well.

I count 4: Monte, Germany, Spain and Corsica. I know the Monte is supposed to be an ice event but it seems less so in recent years :)

I didn’t count Monte as a tarmac rally though it has been one last few years (hopefully it will someday be a snow rally again).

With global warming, it doesn't look like Monte Carlo will be a full snow rally again, but, even this year, there was snow at Col de Turini and the first night was just sub zero and there was still a lot of snow on the side of the road on friday morning as well.

Rally is a race from one place to another on normal roads. Nowdays, they close some parts of the road sections for safety reasons.

And an important part to note is that nobody calls it 'rally racing', it's 'Rally' or 'Rallying'. Racing is an entirely different branch of motorsport.

 Yup. I only ever call it Rallying, gets on my ***s when Neil Cole says 'Welcome to World Rally, on Dave', always thought it should be 'the World Rally Championship'.

In the same way that 'simple things please simple minds', simple things also irritate simple minds :D

Agree, also hate it when Paul King says the same thing, i;e Seb Loeb - the King of Rally, or Rally is a tough sport.
Aagh,..the sport is Rallying, the series is the World Rally Championship!!

I'm in two minds on the Rally vs Rallying issue. I think it's just as valid to call it Rally as it is Rallying. I think it mostly comes from languages other than English where Rally is a correct usage.

No it's not :p You go to a rally to see rallying :p You don't go to a rally to see rally :p That's like saying you like motor race if you like motor racing :)

Oxford English Dictionary

rally

• verb (rallies, rallied) 1 (with reference to troops) bring or come together again so as to continue fighting. 2 bring or come together as support or for united action: his family rallied round. 3 recover or cause to recover in health, spirits, or poise. 4 (of share, currency, or commodity prices) increase after a fall. 5 drive in a motor rally.

• noun (pl. rallies) 1 a mass meeting held as a protest or in support of a cause. 2 a long-distance competition for motor vehicles over public roads or rough terrain. 3 an open-air event for people who own a particular kind of vehicle. 4 a quick or marked recovery. 5 (in tennis and other racket sports) an extended exchange of strokes between players.

So according to those who know best, you can 'rally in a rally'.

rallying

• noun 1 before another noun having the effect of calling people to action: a rallying cry. 2 the action or sport of participating in a motor rally.
