As the next CMR2 BRC round is still 2 weeks away, how about a semi-serious round to keep us busy :D

The CMR2 Goodwood Festival

You may enter in the following categories (one entry per category):

-Spec Mini Cooper (Mini Coopers only)
-Spec Escort (Escorts only-NA for PS1 players)
-WRC
-Group B (6R4, Stratos and 205-feel free to rename as RS200, Lancia, etc)

Yes, I know the Stratos is not a Group B car, but it has performance stats in the game similar to one.

Let me have a look at the Italy stages and choose a stage. As the actual Good wood is ran on a 1.16 mile hillclimb I'll choose one of the two short stages for the event.

Practice as much as you like, but then you get one run and one onl to get your time.

Times will be due July 9 with results soon thereafter.

Watch this thread for the event stage.

Cheers,

Tannat

Classic cars galore! Let's rally.. :D

Why not oblige us to drive every car? :p

tannat
30th June 2008, 15:44
1) Stage used: Italy SS8 sunny, dry, bright (whatever it is without rain)

2) Competitor's Choice Award

One of the wonderful things about Goodwood is the appreciation of the magnificent machinery. All competitor's are invited to submit screenshots. A secret vote will be held amongst competitor's to pick the best screenshot of the event :D

Happy driving!

"Practice as much as you like, but then you get one run and one onl to get your time."
what is "one onl to get your time"?

OOPS-a typo.

Basically practice as much as you want, but then designate one run as 'the' run for your time. Regardless what happens that designated run is your actual run and you must submit that time.

Regarding Escorts there is a spec Escort class. If there is a low # of entries I may need to classify them with the Minis.

Rat
1st July 2008, 13:34
cool I might do a couple of runs and submit them. 1 WRC and 1 Escort!

It was really fun to drive with those RWD cars, although Stratos wasn't very suitable for this stage. It had plenty of power, but I couldn't use it well enough in these tight corners. I was almost as fast with escort.

Here is a picture of my Escort MK2.

tannat
8th July 2008, 12:36
Have times from NOR Zes and Rat

Did my WRC run in the Subaru this AM.

This is a positively fiendish stage. I've found in Italy you absolutely have to throw your car at the stages, throw caution to the wind and hope for the best.

I set the car up really soft to cope with the numerous bumps (+1)

I'll run the Mini and Stratos tomorrow

Zes
8th July 2008, 13:03
Zes, where did ya get the MK2 Escort skin? I need that one.

From internet... :p : I don't remember where, but if you want it, I can send it to you or put it somewhere for downloading.

I just wish someone would make Ari Vatanen's Rothmans livery for it...

I have the hi-res setting on and it works, I haven't tested it in low-res, probably there is no low-res skin, because the original ZIP had only three files. Restarting the computer is not needed when replacing skins.

Yes cars folder is the right one. If you want to have a low-resolution skin, all you have to do is copy the esca1N.c3d and the esca1.bfl into a different folder, change their name into escc1.c3d and escc1.bfl and move them into the game\cars folder.

yeah that stage sucks :p

just finished my runs, while the Mini Cooper actually lacked some power IMO, the Stratos was a way too wild beast for such slow technical stage, although it was the most fun car to drive.

I couldn't get anywhere near my WRC and Group B times with the Mini Cooper.

At first the Metro was a real beast to drive, but with some extreme set-up changes I managed to tame it somewhat and I bettered my WRC time by about 2 seconds. It was great fun to hurl the Metro round the twisty stage.

I found that for all Italian stages you really need to know the roads very well to be able to set fast times. If you get your line wrong just a little bit entering a combination of turns, you'll bang a few rock faces or guard rails and loose several seconds. After practicing the "Goodwood stage" until I felt confident enough for the official run I had improved my previous WRC best time by 7 seconds, just because I knew where the road was going...

tannat
9th July 2008, 14:28
After practicing the "Goodwood stage" .

To be quite honest I regret chosing this stage..

But hey, at least you'll be in practice for the upcoming BRC round :D

tannat
9th July 2008, 19:06
Having a look at the times I probably should have combined Stratos/Escorts/Minis....

tannat
9th July 2008, 22:12
A fairly close group with NOR taking the top time over Rat by just over two clicks. Zes trailed Rat by less than 3 seconds for third

1-NOR Ford Escort 1:24.32
2-Rat Ford Escort 1:26.42
3-Zes Ford Escort 1:29.38

tannat
9th July 2008, 22:15
A well subscribed class. NOR again show his vintage prowess taking the win by less than a click over Tannat. jso1985 finished third with kabouter just behind in fourth.

Eetu wins the battles of Zes' sons by 3+ seconds over Tuomo :D

1-NOR Mini Cooper S 1:21.37
2-Tannat Mini Cooper S 1:22.32
3-jso1985 Mini Cooper S 1:26.11
4-kabouter Mini Cooper S 1:27.92
5-Eetu Mini Cooper S 1:43.66
6-Tuomo Mini Cooper S 1:46.40

Congratulations to the winners, NOR has shown he knows how to drive those vintage cars, and Tannat has given us all a reminder of his tarmac skills.

I'm very pleased with my second place in the Group B category. Shame I can't use the Metro in the BRC ;)

Thank you Tannat for coming up with this entertaining challenge. It was great fun to drive a few different cars on a very demanding stage.

NOR
11th July 2008, 10:25
I'm happy about my results, really haven't expected three victories. Great thanks to Tannat for the idea and congrats for the superb time with Impreza WRC.

tannat
11th July 2008, 14:48
congrats for the superb time with Impreza WRC.

Thanks NOR..

I was suprised, as typically I go full hard for tarmac (+5). As this stage has several curbs and opportunities to cut corners I wen for +1 and it made all the difference in the world.

A quick check on stages 5,6,and 7 show it to be effective there as well (I've broken or nearly broken all PBs). It also works well on the fiendish stage 10.

Cheers

Tannat

cool, two podiums!, while I knew I was doomed for last place in the Stratos, I'm kinda surprised with my 2nd place on the WRC class, that huge whale the Lancer is probably tho worst car to choose among the WRC ones for such stage.
