Ok, I'm in Greece now, so I can't wait to start this one.

Official web site:
http://www.acropolisrally.gr/en/

List of entries:
http://www.acropolisrally.gr/en/show.php?page=entries

Weather:
http://cirrus.meteo.noa.gr/forecast/bolam/index.htm

WARNING: If you are driving down to Greece avoid Serbia. Blackmailing by corrupted police and state controlled scams overcharging for autobahn fees are reality, just stay away form this country. It happen to me and its kind of insulting. People told me that Romania is save, but too slow and too much traffic. Best choice for driving is Ferry from Italy, or just get on the plane.

First, great to see the new SUBARU Impreza WRC 08 on the entry list. I really hope for it to be competitive.

Other than that, i think there is an OK entry list. No suprises... But better than previous rallies...! Interesting will also be what Rautenbauch will do with (to) his Citroen in the rally, he has done quite stupid thing in each rally, hasn't he?

I will follow the rally frequently in the weekend, finally school is over for the summer so this rally comes perfect as a celibration of that.

Cheers!!

Most likely it will be. Why? Because PS is not optimistic this time (his comments after recce about not knowing what to expect from the new car) meaning the opposite will happen :)
Anyway, good luck to entire SWRT.

Anyway, good luck to entire SWRT.I think being a Subaru fan fills you full of optimism and at some point delusion. Hope Petter comes out swinging and gets some points. I'd really like for the boys in blue to shatter someone elses dreams this season.

Yep, you're right :) (I think)

2007 specs:

AP Racing 305mm ventilated discs and four-pot calipers front and rear.
For asphalt use, front brakes are 366mm ventilated discs with six-pot calipers

Summary:
Special stage Psatha (SS3/6) is very rough. (Tyre braeker?!)
SSS is (to much) dusty
Stages are fine, more rougher then last year.

some first impressions from today visit at service park
the s14 doesn t seems to be a sophisticated-advanced rally car.
it doesn t give you that feeling as when we first saw the focus 03 or the 206.
the suspension is again bos
the brakes are apracing
suzuki had a very ''poor'' stand in machines and for people also.
seems that they have less than the half budget than other teams.
i remember that even skoda had a very good presentation at acropolis.
suzuki had rieger suspensions.

pirelli wrc tyres are made in turkey(i didn t know that)
till end of 2007 all the pirelli motorsport tyrew were made in italy, from the settimo torinese factory.

i had the oportunity to talk with Donaldson from Prodrive, with Alexey Shchukin manager of E-ART rally team etc.
i also had a talk with two guys from CZ they told me they are owners of the www.ewrc.cz (http://www.ewrc.cz) great guys keep the good work!!!(sorry i dont remember their names)
tomorow morning at 8 starts the shakedown.
i ll wrote my impressions.

ps Alexey Shchukin is a fantastic man! he answered all my questions for about half hour  :p :

Part II of recce.

http://www.acropolisrally.gr/en/show.php?cat_id=43&page_id=1134

Vovos said the best what all other said:
The Rally will be a great challenge for the cars and the tires, because stages will be worse after the second passage.

Loeb:The conditions are worse than last year.

Latvala most positive view after recce I and II:
”Some stages are in better condition, some others are rough, so you need to find where to push. Quite a lot of rocks in the long stage. Not as bad as last year, because it was 48 km and now it is 32, but still you must be careful, because if it is that warm, 35 degrees, it is going to be difficult and hard for the tires. You will need to think about how fast you can go there.”

shakedown news

Roy
29th May 2008, 11:02
Dani Sordo (Citroen C4 WRC) was the fastest driver at the shakedown, followed by Mikko Hirvonen (Ford Focus RS WRC) and Sebastien Loeb (Citroen C4 WRC). Jari Matti Latvala went off road with no serious consequences, while Toni Gardemeister faced problems with the gearbox of his car. The problem was quickly solved.

Suzuki has a lot of problems and Latvala.... oh my dear...

pettersolberg29

Sordo is looking ominously good on gravel now...

some impressions from shake down.
Sordo,Loeb,Hirvo,Galli wayyyy faster in my eyes and at 1,5 km from start.
Sordo also very spectacular. Not very good driving from Latvala.Iwas waiting much better from him.Not so clear lines, and very much sideways, where the faster crews were just straight(maybe adjusting suspension?)
new s14 seems that wasn t so powerfull..
Aava also with good lines.
Sandell also with good driving, and at the distance i could see the gravel was in very bad condition,it was a big difference at the way the s2000 was soldering the road vs mitsubishis and scoobies.
Also very good driving from Aigner,Hanninen,Arai.
Finally yours beloved Rautenbach finished the shakedown without any disaster.

LATVALA Jari-Matti - ANTTILA Miikka
“There is a lot of dust in the stage. This stage is similar to Friday’s stages. We went too wide on a left corner and because of the dust I didn’t see where the turn closes. We went out and we hit a tree with the right side of the car, but no major damage was done.“

We should also get rid of disc brakes, airbags, and doors while we're at it. I don't think people with their children in the back seat will have as much fun careening into a tree with all the safety features.

Hope for better results although I know it will be difficult for him for a number of reasons particularly his sideways driving style whereas the focus needs to be driven like a train.

I don't know what happened to Sordo, but he's been really fast on gravel lately by an exponential amount compared to previous year. He seem to be even faster than Latvala on this 2nd stage.

Very unimpressed by the new Subaru, but I'm going to sleep, hopefully when I woke up they haven't retired yet.

I was following his progress when he was contesting the Fiesta trophy in 2006 where he was fast and even won the WRC Germany round. Also he is on home territory so in a way I was expecting this kind of performance from Athanasoulas. More suprising is (if I remember correctly) the fact that Acropolis is his 2nd even in the last two years.

Give some time to Subaru. It is not easy to come out with a completely new car to a rally like a Greece. The time loss for stage winner is not so bad at all.
SS1 0,8 s/km
SS2 0,49 s/km
SS3 0,62 s/km
The most important is that the car is consistent. Petter had realy interesting split times with old car. At the start of the stage he had superb splits and at the end the time was nightmare. now the time is getting better as the stage progresses.

I read the regulations again. The cars that are excluded as a result of OTL are allowed to restart on the next Day. There wasn't anything about cumulative lateness there was written that maximum lateness between to TC is 15 minutes.

So, here it comes: 18.8.1 Any lateness exceeding 15 minutes on the target time between two time controls, or a lateness exceeding 30 minutes at the end of each section and/or Day of the rally, or a total lateness for the whole of the rally of more than 60 minutes will result in the competitor concerned being excluded by the clerk of the course. The crew may nevertheless re-start the rally under the provisions specified in the relevant Championship sporting regulations, if applicable. In calculating such exclusion, the actual time and not the penalty time (10 seconds per minute) applies.

Ironic! yesterday i was watching the review from Sardinia and in an interview Loriaux was talking that they had reinforced critical points in the focus's suspension, and that only time will tell if this plays against... think it did!

What was Hanninen's problem on the previous?

Hirvonen and Latvala hitted same rock in SS6 and they really did break their suspensions. That's why their times were so lousy in the SS7.

Atkinson also has hit the same rock, thats why he is completing top8 instead of being in front of both ford's
