But his Formula One team, Red Bull, pre-empted any rumour-mongering about the North American stopover by insisting that Coulthard's stock car foray will for now be "only for the day!".
"Note to rumour writers," the always humorous Milton Keynes based press office cheekily explained in a press release.
"Please note that David is visiting this event solely to shoot a film for Red Bull and we would appreciate it if you did not start a load of silly rumours about him switching from F1 to NASCAR in 2009. Yee Ha!" Red Bull wrote.

DC may not be going to NASCAR but according to this story (http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/formula_1/article3991762.ece) he may be joining the BBC:
Martin Brundle, ITV's much-decorated Formula One pundit, looks certain to join the BBC and we hear that contact has already been made with David Coulthard to take over the role presently occupied by Mark Blundell. Which, of course, means an end to his Formula One career and a lucrative driving seat at the up and coming Red Bull team next season.

Och aye the noo......

At least DC has never shied away from providing inciteful and often quite 'brow raising quips for the TV cameras.

Not necessarily. He's normally out before the first Pit stops so there's no reason that he can't take a Mike stuffed down his Overalls and begin commentation when he crashes.

Miaow....
If he must retire then I hope he takes the BBC job - he'd be great at it.

I'm sure there's more to this then a promotional video. There was something this year saying he wouldnt be against a move. Maybe not next year but I'm sure he's checking it out for the future. Especially with Red Bull improving their Cup programme.

He'll be amazed at 160K+ fans, 43 cars and a 1 mile track packed into a stadium the size of a good football venue. Dover's a pretty cool venue. It's definitely a gear change coming straight off of the Monaco weekend. I'm sure he'll probably also have a chat with Franchitti while he's there.

DC says what he thinks and doesn't adore Hamilton like Blundell and Rider, so he would be an excellent choice for "pundit".

Brundle has to move over, and its good that the BBC sound like they are making tracks to get him over.
