If Kimi retires and Ferrari doesn't want Alonso then where does Fernando go? I have a feeling BMW are very keen on keeping Kubica so I don't think there is room at BMW.

I can see Vettel going to Red Bull and Jenson staying at Honda. I can also see Rubens leaving Honda, either by choice or by force.

Why would Massa want to go to Renault when he has a deal with Ferrari to the end of 2010, especially if Kimi retires and Ferrari don't want Alonso?!

Hmm, going by that list of rumours

Ferrari - Kubica and Raikkonen (perhaps)
Mclaren - Lewis and Heikki
BMW - Alonso and Heidfeld
Renault - Webber and Sato? Grojean?
Red Bull - Vettel and Crazy Dave
Honda - Massa and Button

Well... different would be an understatement

If this was the case, I would want Renault to pull their heads out of their arses and design a bloody race winner :p :

Hmm, I don't agree with some of this:

Ferrari would be Kubica & Massa
Renault would be somebody and somebody, maybe it would be Piquet & Barichello?
Red Bull will be Webber & Vettel. Mark has done very well at RBR and they are slowly getting better. Since Renault hasn't excelled that much it looks like a lateral move to me.

Massa to Honda? I highly doubt it although they are going to get much better with Brawn there. Maybe they will go back to Button & Sato??

Arguably Fleetwood Mac's best album.

But surely, by definition, that would have to be 'The Very Best of Fleetwood Mac'?

Back on topic, I'll add the rumour mill that Stevie Nicks is having a seat-fitting at Mclaren next week, the MP4/24 will be designed by Mick Fleetwood, will feature an 'Albatross' front wing and when Heikki & Lewis collide at the first corner of the 2009 Singapore GP the headlines around the world will read 'Tangle In The Night'

Furthermore to that, I heard that Rick Vito was planning to take Max's place as president of the FIA, and Christine McVie is in line to take Piquet's seat at Renault, as he appears to be the weakest link in the chain - No Questions Asked there ;)

No, seriously it wouldn't surprise me to see the following happen though:

Ferrari - Same as this year
McLaren - Heikki and Hamilton
BMW - Kubica and Alonso
Renault - Webber and probably Grosjean. I'm not convinced about Sato's going there.
Williams - Rosberg and ?
Toyota - Trulli and Glock, with a two year extension on Trulli's contract 'til '11.
Red Bull - Vettel and Bourdais
Honda - Button and maybe, just maybe, Sato.
Force India - Fisichella and someone else. Not Sutil.

mirek01

I think Ferrari,McLaren, BMW,Renault(Piquet could be out and then maybe Bourdais?) will stay the same and Williams and Toyota could be too on the same pairing of drivers.
Red Bull-Weber & Vettel
Honda-Button & Sato
Force India-Fisichella & ?(someone new)
STR-depends who buy this team no thoughts for now
So I'm predicting to Coulthard and Barrichello end F1 carrier

Rumours persist that BBC's hugely popular Top Gear team – comprising Jeremy Clarkson, Richard ‘Hamster' Hammond and James May, as well as the infamous Stig – will play some kind of part in the shows, but there appears to be little room for any of ITV-F1 (http://www.crash.net/motorsport/f1/home/)'s current line-up of Rider, Martin Brundle, James Allen, Mark Blundell (http://www.crash.net/gpa/driver~driver_id~11613.htm), Louise Goodman and Ted Kravitz et al.

What are you talking about? I don't believe Räikkönen is going to leave after this season. Also I think Kubica will stay at BMW as the team is constantly making progress. I guess the rumours about Kimi and Robert have been created from nowhere.

Alonso is the key in the driver market. But I think the possibility to see him continuing at Renault has risen, especially as the car has made a tiny step forward since the start of the European season. On the flip side I have doubts about Renault's rise to the very top, especially as their engine is arguably worse than the ones of rivals and due to engine freeze they can't do much about it. But I guess Alonso might stay there for one more year and keep the hope of situation getting better and... then leave after 2009.

Grosjean should become a Renault driver in 2009. He is too talented not to get a chance in F1. :D

My guess:
Ferrari - Kimi & Felipe
McLaren - Lewis & Heikki
BMW - Robert & Nick
Renault - Fred & Romain
Williams - Nico & Kazuki
Red Bull - Mark & Der Seb
Toyota - Jarno & Timo
Honda - Jenson & Marco (!)
STR (or under a new ownership) - Le Seb & Bruno
Force India - Giancarlo & Tonio

If the outcome will be like this, it doesn't look like a "silly season", but more likely a "silent season" with only minor changes in driver line-ups. :p :

I´ll have to agree with our Estonian friend. Kubica would be crazy to leave BMW as he´s becoming the clear number 1 a team that will be on pair with Ferrari and Mac next year. Kimi never said he´ll retire after this year, he only said that he´ll not be around long enough to win as many wdc titels as Michael. That is true for every driver in the field.

I think Mac will hold on to their drivers. The only question mark in the top 3 teams is Nick. He will need to start producing something quickly if he wants to continue for BMW. Being German is good, but there are other German drivers coming up.

Even some with a Finnish passport as well :)

Fernando Alonso signs for Ferrari

Alonso signs for Ferrari
The word in the F1 paddock in Monte Carlo is that Fernando Alonso has just inked a deal to drive for Ferrari in 2010.

No confirmation is expected for a year, and there may be denials of any arrangement, as there would obviously be some serious knock-on effects for other parties in the F1 paddock.

Alonso went to Renault this year after splitting with McLaren unexpectedly at the end of last season. It was a stop-gap solution for the Spaniard, although it was dressed up as the big return to the team with which he won his two World Championships. This year the team's performance has been rather disappointing and Fernando has scored just nine points, while Nelson Piquet has failed to score and the team is languishing in seventh place in the Constructors' Championship. Unless there is a dramatic improvement soon the team will have no hope of finishing the year better than fourth in the championship and there have been rumours for some time that ING may be looking around at other opportunities.

Fernando has made no secret of the fact that he will consider other offers if they are sensible. He has been angling for a ride at Ferrari for some time. It may seem that is a rather premature move, but these days in F1 deals are being done much earlier than used to be the case. Kimi Raikkonen's deal with Ferrari, which began in 2007, was first reported as being done as early as October 2005. Alonso's 2007 deal with McLaren was announced in December 2005. Thus now would be the time that deals are being done for 2010.

Exciting news and so little comments? :D

Don't know, whether this is true, but if it is... Remember, Massa's new deal until 2010 was announced late 2007. And there are rumours like Alonso signed a deal with Ferrari late 2007 too. So based on that what if Ferrari clarified its 2010 line-up already in late 2007? It actually sounds quite strange to sign contracts with such time advance - so much can change during that time. In that light probably it's not surprising that there are assumptions like Räikkönen might leave after 2009. If this is true that Ferrari's 2010 line-up is clear by now, then how must he feel? Has he had negotiations with the team about when he is going to finish?

Why would they want Liuzzi?

I know this Liuzzi hype has taken on already ludicrous proportions, but let`s be realistic here - this dude has struggled so far with every teammate and driven idiotically many times.
Replacing Sutil with Liuzzi is like choosing electrocution instead of hanging as the way to die.

Look, at the moment Massa is doing the better job at Ferrari. If Kimi IS doing these rumours to try to 'bolster' his position, he is clearly more afraid of Massa than he lets on. It also suggests that Kimi is not the golden child Ferrari wanted, or that perhaps, he was not their first choice.

Alternatively, it might just be that Kimi knows what he wants, he's gonna see out his Ferrari contract then nick off on a world pub crawl.....

Who knows? ;)

Kimi was Ferraris 1st choice and he has always said he will not be in F1 for very long, he has other outside interests. One can`t but think that out of many drivers in F1, he probably has the best understanding that there is also life outside F1.

There are stories doing the rounds in Europe that there might be a second Honda team again in F1 in 2009. This sounds rather unlikely given that Honda is still nursing the tips of its fingers, which were well heated by Super Aguri. Honda Racing F1 sources say the team knows nothing of another Honda team, and reports that American engineer Ken Anderson met with Honda's Ross Brawn and Nick Fry seem to be well wide of the mark.

That said, Kubica is the man Ferrari should get.
The plumber seems to not be willing to dispute that!

BMW boss Mario Theissen accepts that Robert Kubica has attracted considerable interest as a result of his first career victory in Montreal, but he insists that the team are in ‘no rush’ to announce their driver line-up for 2009.

Robert Kubica has become one of the hottest properties on the driver market following his Canadian triumph, the latest ’silly-season’ rumours linking the Pole to Ferrari for next year

Thats an interesting way to say that you haven't come to contractual terms with the Kube!

Coulthard muses 'plans' for life after F1
http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/19062008/13/coulthard-muses-plans-life-f1.html

David Coulthard (http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/formula-1/david-coulthard.html) may be warming to the idea that his long career in formula one is nearing an end.
The German specialist magazine Auto Motor und Sport claims that "only a miracle" will now prevent Red Bull Racing (http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/formula-1/red-bull-racing.html) from fielding its preferred lineup of Mark Webber (http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/formula-1/mark-webber.html) alongside Sebastian Vettel (http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/formula-1/sebastian-vettel.html) in 2009.
Asked about the speculation, Scot Coulthard, who has contested 236 Grand Prix, coyly replied : "I have plans for the future."

How seriously should we take this rumour? :p :

Positive for Renault. If Alonso really leaves, then at least they would get one decent driver with the returning Heikki.

There are some aspects about this rumours that are debatable though.
Why should McLaren surely prefer Rosberg over Kovalainen? I think neither of them have quite lived up to the expectations so far this year, although better things may be expected from the future.

And another suspicious thought. Although Willi Weber is surely a well-informed person, then he is also the manager of Hülkenberg, the testdriver of Williams, and surely in talking about Rosberg's departure he has his interests for that vacant Williams drive. :D

But what can be said quite obviously is that Nico has recently been quite critical about Williams and maybe the tensions will get stronger, which end in parting ways. Just an assumption.

I sort of hope that this doesn't happen right now. Kovalainen's not really been given a proper shot yet. He's been very quick on occasions but had his races ruined, often not his fault. I guess that it's easiest to remember the last race where he qualified well (ok, on pole) and had a good shot, but was completely outclassed by his teammate. But there were hard conditions there, perhaps a more normal race would favour him.
Also, as much as Nakajima's exceeded my expectations, a lineup of Nakajima and Hulkenberg would probably be the worst on the grid.
