There is a few new features in the BRC this year:

Shakedown
All rounds will now also include a shakedown, as most BRC events are held on different surfaces than the current World Championship events. The shakedown will not be obligatory but should give the competitors a chance to tweak their cars just right for the conditions at hand.

Rookie Of The Year
The second new feature of 2008 is the Rookie Of The Year Award, this will give the newcomers to both the sport and the championship something to fight for. The winner will be awarded with a medal equal to that of the winner of the full championship (see official homepage).

In order to compete for the award you must:

Have scored no CMR2WC points in '07[/*:m:1c5j7bx3]
Have had no CMR2BRC wins in '07[/*:m:1c5j7bx3]
Compete in at least 3 CMR2BRC events in '08[/*:m:1c5j7bx3]
Latest news - The Puma!!:
The Ford Puma will be allowed from now on as it has payed a prominent part of the BRC trough the years..
Please note: The Puma must be entered as the Puma only! Not as any imaginary car, or rebuild as any other car as we need to know what we are up against :D

Do remember to visit the official homepage of the championship at:

Are you sure about this, JTL? The Puma is substantially faster than any WRC in CMR2. We would all be fools not to drive it.

It will seriously destabilize the playing field. I don't think this is a good idea, but it's your championship.

If you must have it, perhaps limit gearing, tire choices etc. It is a very fast car.

I don't think that the Puma is that fast. It might be slightly faster than the WRC cars, at least in my opinion. I was not able to beat my time on the shakedown with the Fort Puma. I am using Focus for the BRC championship. May be on that particular stage the Puma is not that fast , but I agree with Tannat that allowing that car will destabilize the field. May be you can make a separate class for cars other than WRC cars.

And my best time from the shakedown was 1:05.59

See below..

Same bhp as WRCs, but 200kg less:

section | 2.1 | cars
| |

> Standard Cars

> ford focus
>> 4WD
>> BHP | 8/11 | 300bhp
>> Weight | 10/11 | 1230kg
>> Turbo | Yes

> mitsubishi lancer
>> 4WD
>> BHP | 8/11 | 300bhp
>> Weight | 11/11 | 1260kg
>> Turbo | Yes

> toyota corolla
>> 4WD
>> BHP | 8/11 | 299bhp
>> Weight | 10/11 | 1230kg
>> Turbo | Yes

> subaru impreza
>> 4WD
>> BHP | 8/11 | 300bhp
>> Weight | 10/11 | 1230kg
>> Turbo | Yes

> peugeot 206
>> 4WD
>> BHP | 8/11 | 300bhp
>> Weight | 10/11 | 1230kg
>> Turbo | Yes

The Peugeot suffers from it's dodgy handling can cause problems
no most stages. This wouldn't be a problem so much if the Peugeot
didn't also have the best combination of speed and acceleration
which isn't helped by the handling.

> seat cordoba
>> 4WD
>> BHP | 9/11 | 315bhp
>> Weight | 10/11 | 1230kg
>> Turbo | Yes

The Cordoba is a lot like the Peugeot, great acceleration and
decent speed, however the size of the car lends to a lack of
control on the bends, making it feel like the car is too heavy
for it's size.

> ford racing puma
>> 4WD
>> BHP | 8/11 | 300bhp
>> Weight | 9/11 | 1040kg
>> Turbo | Yes

The sleek looking Ford Racing Puma lives up to it's name. As nice
to drive as the Focus, it's also lighter and quicker to boot.
The handling is nice and easy, the acceleration is quick enough
to keep up with the pack.

Are you running the Puma, Ramore?

If JTL follows through and the Puma is allopwed I think it is best all entrants formally declare what they plan to drive this round ( and each round following).

Don't mean to be a punk, but I'd hate to lose out at the finish line beacuse I made an unwise choice on what I drove...

JTLarsen
19th May 2008, 18:29
The experts have spoken, there will be no Pumas in the BRC

Running a class for the Puma and the MG Metro would be great, but it would draw away entries from the main championship.

Didn't mean to spoil your fun, JTL. Marcel has a fondeness for the SEAT in the WRC, and I think even Juha has discovered it's slight advantage over the rest....

keeping it even steven at least lets you know you have equal equipment-you just have to drive it.

Cheers,

Ramore

Are you running the Puma, Ramore?

No, I did that time with the Focus. I meant that I couldn't match that time with the Puma. May be I am not used to drive it. That's why i thought that the difference between the Focus and the Puma is not significant. Anyway, I am driving the Focus for the entire BRC this year.

But on the other hand, you could say that the Seat is also better than the rest of the WRC cars and it should not be allowed anywhere. I don't like it and I haven't tried it so far, but the Seat is 15 hp more than the rest, while the weigh is equal. But don't get me wrong, I am not saying that we should ban the Seat or allow the Puma.

I follow you, and agree :D

That's a good time...I can't break the low 1:07s in the Lancer. This stage is more like Italy than France. Lots of right-left transitions that are tough to do properly without going off. That right just after the third timed sector is giving me trouble-I keep going onto the grass..

Had a good run on SS1-within a second of my PB

Finished the RAlly! After a very lax recce posting a best time of 1:14.81, we pressed ahead to the Rally proper.
Stage 1 started well until we hit some trees and a post head on which damaged the gearbox and our times suffered badly.
Stage 3 is my favorite setting a PB and a very fast run with no damage!
The rest of the Rally went well with minor damage after glancing off the walls and losing traction due to many tail out slides wearing out the tyres! Great fun.
The last 2 stages we had very heavy rain and it caused us to go straight on at a hairpin damaging the front end. Last stage and we thought the worst was behind us, hit a pole very hard and damaged the gearbox and steering again.
Overall it was a fun, fast Rally, well for us anyway. Good luck to the rest of the Teams!

Reporter: so the home event for you how do you feel?M.F: yeah we're really excited the tarmac roads are a real test of your driving skills and the wether almost always turns to rain when you least expect it.Reporter: this weekend your entered in a Mitsubush evo 9 howd that come about?M.F: well we were going to use the Focus of Andreas Mikkleson but unfortunately he crashed in Sardinia and so we had to wrap up a last minute deal to use the Mitsu for this round.Reporter: looks nice how does it drive?M.F: well we havent actually tested it yet so we've got to adapt as the rally goes on and hope for a good set up Rerporter: good luck for the rally and dont go crashing in to any gates ok?

Testing go well so far. I've tackled two stages and have reached or surpassed my PB on each.

Still dealing with the inherent PS1 understeer......

While the Lancer is running well, I still think I'd rather be driving just about anthing else :)

Because the Curtans RallyBase Motorsport Peugeot 206 is on its way from Sardegna to Greece, I'm going to rent a Ford Focus WRC for this event. Having to fit it in between a late rally in Italy and testing for Greece I think I'll do a very quick recce of the stages, try to get a decent setup on the shakedown and just go for it. My only previous competitive outing on asphalt was one day of this year's Monte so I'm not expecting any miracles on this event.

Two Basses Team Europe enters the Jim Clark

The Two Basses Team Europe will enter the Jim Clark International with 2 X Skoda Fabia S2000, driven by NOR (Czech Rep.) and JTLarsen (Denmark) to follow up on the success from round 1 of the BRC, where NOR finished 3rd and JTLarsen 7th, both racing the new Fabia for the first time.

Team captain and stockholder in the Two Basses corporation (Band) NOR, will also be doing a round of the Czech CMR2 championship this weekend, so we are keeping our fingers crossed that there will be airline delays.

NOR and I had a somewhat close battle on these stages in last year's WRC.

I think I can beat him, but not in the Lancer. It's not as good in the tight corners as the other WRCs.

Still, our practice times are very good, and we'll do our best.

Running the rally tonight

I'm very wondering, how we will be close Tannat. I haven't run on tarmac since Monte Carlo, but the new Fabia S2000 seems very competitive on SS1. I will do rally tonight as well. No testing, no shake except SS1 have done, it will be run for fun ... and speed, don't worry.

Yes, it is. I was very satisfied on tarmac rallies with the Fabia WRC skinned on P206 last year. So I have a big confidence in good result, despite of my strategy - just sit in and run.

I've just completed the rally. My first ever rally in a Ford Focus, and my first ever competitive full tarmac rally (seeing the Monte is partially run on snow covered roads) result in a severely damaged Focus and an even more severely bruised ego...

Somehow during the rally I had again issues with the frame rate of my PC (and that's not what you want with all those left-right-left-right-hairpin combinations) but I didn't have those when testing and on the shakedown stage I did not manage to do better than 1.14,27. That's about 10 seconds behind the quickest drivers, on the shortest stage of the event :(

At least I managed several personal best times, but I need to improve much more to be competitive on asphalt.

Ramore
26th May 2008, 22:51
I have just finished the rally. The team is quite happy with my performance, although I haven't done asphalt rally for a long time. Again, I should have practiced more but I only had time to set up the car during the shakedown. But besides that it was a good rally for me. The weather was not on my side either. It started raining two minutes before I entered stage 9 and there was a heavy rain on stage 10. Probably I have lost some seconds there, but what can you do, that is rallying, as beautiful and exciting as it is tough.

How did you setup your car, NOR?

On the Lancer I was gearbox 0 for 1-4, -1 for 5-10

You two were in another league! And If I am looking at the times correctly the lead swapped hands on the final stage!

I don't think I'll be any competition on asphalt in the Lancer, and I hope I can keep up with you two in the WRC when we reach these stages.

With Steve in 4th this is going to be an interesting, tight championship

Yes, it looks like NOR clinched it with a great time on the final stage. Good fight gentlemen  I'm happy to have scored a good amount of points despite being a bit off the pace compared to the recent gravel events in the CMR2WC (I love this points system :) ).

But I enjoyed the good fight with Rat. If he hadn't had such a difficult start to the rally on the first stage, he would have beaten me for sure. In the end I just managed to hang on for 8th. That should be interesting in the next round :)

Great to got the maiden victory for me and Two Basses Team Europe.
Thanks Ramore for the close battle. Only stages I had practised were 1. and 10., so the rest was just ride to unknown. And all the rally I went without speaking codriver !!! It was surprisingly very comfortable for me, just concerned on driving.

Congrats to NOR for the great driving and the win. A close battle indeed, but I am satisfied with the second place, although if it was not raining on the last two stages it could have been different, but anyway I am glad I got 18 point and I am close to the leaders now (4 drivers in 3 points, amazing). It will be very interesting season. I can't wait for the next event.

Thanks NOR!

A rumor is circulating Tannat may exercise the out option on his contract with Ralliart and accept a ride with a privateer concern..

...in a much smaller WRC :D
