Sprint Cup All-Star Race

[RaceFanStan]

All-Star Race Format
This non-points race consists of 4-25 lap segments.

The teams have the option of pitting after the 1st 25 lap segment of the event.
(they do give-up their respective on-track position by doing so)

A mandatory 10-minute stop follows the 2nd 25 lap segment.

Teams resume their position at the start of the 3rd 25 lap segment.

Following segment 3 all remaining participants circle the track under caution.
Each team then conducts a pit stop under race-like pitting conditions.
The order of the teams exiting pit road will serve as the starting lineup for the 4th 25 lap segment.

Eligibility Rules for Sprint Cup All-Star Race :
1. Drivers and car owners who have won races in the current and preceding year.
(through the last race before The All-Star Race)
If a driver leaves a team with which he has won a race, he remains eligible.
The car owner's new driver also is eligible.
2. Drivers who are past Cup Champions in the last 10 years
3. Drivers who have won The All-Star Race in the past 10 years
4. The winning driver of the Sprint Open
5. Drivers who have won in previous years, not eligible by the above (not owners, just drivers)
6. Fan Vote Winner

the announcers stated they thought Joe Gibbs Racing was "experimenting" on their engines ...
trying things to make more horsepower by stepping over the edge of what they had been doing ...
the All-Star Race wasn't for points, so it made for a good test session for the Coca-Cola 600 ...
I imagine that Joe Gibbs Racing wasn't the only team "experimenting" in the All-Star Race. :eek:

I thought that the racing in general was pretty good. They still are learning stuff about the car. Nascar will have to put a limit on the amount of side force the teams are using. But did the all star race match up to all the hype that everyone was anticapating? No! Very uneventful as far as agressive driving and wrecks go. They advertise wrecks, emotions, anger which we didn't see really much of. Yes in past years we have seen that. But the point I'm making is speed channel built up this hype and led even new coming fans of the sport to believe that is was going to be an exciting race. I bet most of the fans were dissappointed in the race's outcome. I hope the 600 is more eventful, we will have to see. Reporters!!!!!!! don't sell us a piece of chocolate cake that doesn't taste like chocolate. By the way, congrats to Kasey Kayne.

I thought it was a great race. A lot of strategy played out. Whoda thunk that the driver voted in by the fans would actually take the whole enchilada.

I enjoy close racing also. It was kind of boring though because there wasn't any exciting finishes in all 4 segments. There were a few exciting battles and I didn't expect Kahne to win, which was cool. I was surprised that there were no big wrecks in any of the segments though. :eek:

It was alright. The racing was not up to the standard of a lot of the past wreckfests, but as Stan points out, wrecking isn't racing, and sometimes it is interesting to watch a crew chief and driver just outsmart people and drive to the front....
