what was all that spygate F EN Sh*T why is there NO copyright on parts

BMW-Sauber, and probably other formula one teams, will shortly experiment with the new 'nose hole' innovation that featured on the dominant Ferrari cars in last weekend's Spanish grand prix.
Although Maranello based Ferrari insists that the shark mouth-style feature in front of the driver position may not be used at every race this season, BMW technical director Willy Rampf confirmed that a similar concept will be trialled in the team's Hinwil wind tunnel in the coming days.

There is copyright on parts, but not on ideas.

If there was, the Lotus 79 would have won a lot more championships and Renault would have had the only Turbo-powered car.

If a team can take a concept that is used on another car and design a better version, they are free to do so.

If not, I for one want Williams banned for perfecting the 'Ground-Effect' system that Lotus pioneered.

For starters, Ferrari didnt invent the idea, I read somwhere that a team used it in the 70's/80's.

This is pointless. If, after ALL it has been said on this topic, some people STILL are not able to differentiate from copying and actually having the original blue prints of the project, I really give up on these people.
And REMEMBER; a copy is not as good as the original. It's just a copy.
PS BMW said that actually are going to be testing Ferrari's idea in their wind tunnel.

I think Stewert experimented with it in 98.

Don't be so silly, half the people on here would like to agree with Max that Stewart is a half wit........ ;)

He ran a team that was profitable, never went into overdraft and was innovative... what a twerp indeed!!! :p :

There is no copyright on parts because it does not apply.
Copyright applies to literature, art, music, drawings (including technical, but its the drawing not the idea that is protected), recordings and broadcasts.

The other option would be a patent.
To get a patent an idea must be new, involve an innovative step that is not obivous to someone with experience or knowledge in the field and be capable of being made. I don't think a fancy part on an F1 car meets these criteria.

Then there is also the small matter that to get a patent you must explain how you invention works. And you you are granted the patent all this information is in the public domain.
